Keagan had watched Dean step away and head off toward the refreshment table with a small smile on her lips, though she was trying to be subtle about it, glancing around at the other groups assembled around the decorated Great Hall. The Gryffindors hadn't gotten very far inside the door before they set up camp, it seemed.
Given the state she was in, it was no wonder that Keag was, to put it lightly, startled by Beni's sudden call to action. She was also more pliable in her startled state then she may have been otherwise; she followed Benita's directions to the letter - straightening her back, letting her arms fall to her sides - though the reasoning for her ministrations was slow coming to her mind. That is, until Beni asked her about Dean. Keagan's cheeks instantly lit up and she was blushing furiously under her friend's seemingly knowing gaze.
"Uh...," she began, stuttering, before she continued the sentence stumbling over the words. "He...he's nice. We've talked a couple times and..." She swallowed to try and clear her throat of the knotting she felt there. Her thoughts were so garbled that she began rambling and forgot to think before she spoke. "He likes me. Beni, I like him, too. I told him that once. I had to move on from Dan, though. Remember Dan? Yeah...Dean kissed me, too. Once. He's...nice." Keagan's blush only deepened as her thoughts caught up with her mouth.

And thent here was that moment of silence that seemed to once again take forever to break. He was racking his brain and at the same time without realizing it making the scene that neither of them wanted. Her eyes were fixed on the door, her ears on his voice. Finally theboy seemed to concede her a rather chivalrous victory. But pride and ego werent' her concerns, so they didn't rise much.
The second year girl said nothing, nothing at all and simply walked by. By and out, and gone. She'd said the common room, but she didn't rightly know where she'd end up. The common room was probably last.

Ty having had enough of tonights events decided that he would go take off his costume in the Slytherin common room and then go and see what else there was to do around the castle at this time of evening. The ball just wasn't what he thought it would be. He thought that he and Lianna could have just came got a few laughs and had fun together, but that wasn't going to happen now so there was no point in staying.
Watching as Lianna left the great hall he followed after her just a few minutes later making his way down to the Slytherin common room. Maybe later he would go and see if she wanted to talk about what was bugging her, but at the moment he thought it would be better just to give her space, since thats what she seemed to want.

"You see here, Keagan, we have to take a page from the Arithmancy and Maths folk. You like him equals he likes you. You can only add more to this equation!" Beni grinned and nodded in satisfaction as the girl looked less of a hunched over teenager and more of a blushing woman. "Aye, my friend. You must transcend. It's why we're young! I think that a move forward is what you need. Hmmm... maybe a nice li'l stroll in the courtyard will do? What do you think, Lily? We've got to get them alone."

Speak of the devil... Dean was just trying to figure out how to carry four cups full of punch over to the group when he mentally berated himself for not thinking about using his wand. He pulled it out of his pocket and levitated the cups over to the girls... er, ladies. " Here we are... " Dean said with a nod as he gently set the cups down on a nearby table and started to distibute them. Finally he grabbed his own and held it up, " Cheers. " He said with a slight grin as he took a drink from the cup.

For once, Lily was glad she didn't have an oppurtunity to answer back. She wouldn't have known what to say. Yet again, Lily was caught falling for another guy she should not be falling for and yet again she knew this and yet again she would most likely do something stupid and screw it all up. "Cheers," she said, with the punch cup that Dean had given her, taking a small drink. She feared otherwise that she might choke or something.

Keagan's deer in the headlights look was priceless as she merely gaped at the seventh year. She kept herself quiet to avoid feeling like the bumbling idiot she was sure she'd already made herself out to be. The Gryffindor glanced to Lily when Benita asked her opinion, but her eyes followed Dean's voice when he approached as well. Before turning away quickly, that is, to avoid his eyes. He'd surely know something was going on if he saw her face at the moment, so she hid behind her dark hair and averted her gaze before accepting the punch with a quiet "Thank you."
This was all too much. Keagan's feelings were at war as she simultaneously thought about ways to make Beni pay for this and hoped that Beni's plots would work. Dean and herself really did need to talk.

(( The deer in the headlights thing made me laugh )) Dean nodded in agreement to Lily's ' cheers ' and held his cup in the palm of his hand, waiting but he wasn't quite sure of what it was he was waiting for. He watched with a light smile as Keag turned away and muttered a thanks to him. He wouldn't let her avoiding his gaze put him off. " Keag, you look great. " He told her with a slight smirk, because he knew that she would be both embarassed and pleased by his compliment. And why shouldn't she be? It was true. He lazily swished the punch around in the cup as he waited for a reaction from her.

She could almost feel his gaze on her as she continued to avoid giving Dean a good look at her face. Keag would bet good money that he found this situation amusing, and that the smirk she had witnessed out by the lake was present on his lips. However, she couldn't see it, as she was too busy whistling quietly to herself as she looked around the other side of the Great Hall, and she would never ask.
His compliment, of course, produced the reaction he had expected, and Keagan knew Beni would be pleased with it as well. Embarassment didn't mean much at this point, though, as Keag's cheeks were still on fire from the conversation with Beni and the state of embarassment was near constant. The pleased part, however...a smile graced Keagan's lips as she used all her willpower to continue to avert her gaze. "Thank you," she replied quietly again.

There wasn't much that Beni could do now that the wheels were in motion. Oh, wait! Perhaps grin like an idiot. "Cheers, mate!" She said through smiling teeth she took hold of her own cup and drink it to occupy herself.
But as a lull tried to push through the budding romance, Beni fought it back into its dull quarters. "So! I suppose you're new? Or maybe you aren't? Maybe it's because I'm relatively new myself. Oh, but enough about me! What year did you come in, Keagan?" Don't worry, she left them time to answer. Maybe.

" Heh. You're goin' to give me a headache, you keep talking that fast. " Dean joked to Beni with a laugh before actually answering her questions, " I'm sort of new. Was here for the first term, just not early enough to come on the train and all that. " Jazz... He thought with a slight grin. He didn't catch on to the fact that Beni was trying to get him and Keagan talking about themselves... Dean was a little slow in this department. " So, what about you, Keag. When did you come to this lovely school? " He was, of course, being sarcastic, because that was what Dean did when he was either uncomfortable or nervous. He presumed it to be a combination of the two.

So Beni had turned the focus on Keagan again. 'Great...,' the teenager thought as she turned her gaze to the floor instead of the hall, still hiding her features. "I've been here since middle of my third year," she said in a quieter voice, though it was audible enough. And then, more rambling. "My parents wanted to get me away from some of my friends. Thought they were bad influences...So I've been here a good two and half years." Biting her bottom lip to stop herself from continuing to talk, Keagan scuffed the toe of one of her black heeled sandals against the Hall floor from beneath the train of her gown.

Not that Dean was getting bored with the, ' No, you talk! ' thing that seemed to be going on, he just wanted to get the ball rolling on this thing. The real reason he had agreed to come to this whole thing was because he thought Keagan might be there. As he listened to Keag answering Beni as well, Dean thought about asking her... Screw it... He thought to himself then asked Keagan, " Want to dance? " He hadn't really been paying attention to what music was playing but it didn't really matter to him. Plus he wanted to talk to Keag, and what better way to get her alone than a dance?

Keagan had expected Beni to be the one to reply first, so Dean's speaking came out of left field. That and his reason for speaking caused her foot to stiffen mid-scuff. She figured her expression was clear enough that she could finally turn back to the group as a whole, as long as she didn't meet Dean's eyes just yet...well, maybe she didn't figure it, but she turned her face back anyway. The blush was gone, for the most part, at least. She took a second to glance out the dance floor before turning back with wide eyes. "There's hardly anyone out there," she replied, though it wasn't exactly a direct answer to his question.

Jynx walked back into the Great Hall hand in hand with Matty. About to answer her as to what they should do his attention was averted as he saw a Gryffindor coming over to him. “Hey how is it going?” he asked giving the Gryffindor girl a small smile before continuing, “Your costume looks great as well.”
Then thinking that he was getting kind of thirsty Jynx thought he would excuse himself for a minute and go get everyone drinks. “Why don’t I go and get us all a drink. That way you two can just talk for a minute and I’ll be right back,” Jynx said smiling. With this he lightly removed his hand from Matty’s and headed over to where the drink table was.
