Morning PaperAllegra unfurled the Daily Prophet, skimming the Ministry news, checking for familiar names in the society page, and finally reading through the letters to the editor. She found the Letters to be the best way to get information because they tended to give different sides and then she could make up her own mind or decide to look into the subject more. There was on that caught her eye particularly and she scrunched her nose as she read it. Yes, it sounded right to her, having pride in who you were and where you came from, but at the same time, there was something wrong about it, something lurking just below the surface that she couldn't quite see, hiding behind the pretty words. She read it through one more time just to make sure before turning to the person next to her. "What do you think of this?" she asked, showing them the article.

Ty for some reason found himself sitting next to the Head Girl. He didn’t know quite how this sitting arrangement had happened or what kind of horrible luck he had to be sitting next to the sister of the Ravenclaw whom head he had accidently thrown a bat at, but he was. He was even more disturbed when she addressed him. “Hmm...I don’t read the paper.” Ty said wondering why she was showing him an article, but deciding to just be polite, because he could be occasionally.
Looking at the article he quickly read though it. He thought he had gotten the writers point perfectly. “Well she certainly does dwell on her bloodline doesn't she? I love the fact that she rambles off all of the accomplishments and acts like it is only do to pureblooded wizards that the magical community exists." He said in a sarcastic tone. Then added, "Why?" He just thought the women was another crackpot who was a little obsessed with her bloodline, but wondered why Allegra would want his opinion on the matter.

{Accidental...HA!}
Drew slipped into the seat next to his sister, ignoring the young Slytherin nearby.
That was until he heard what Ty was saying.
"Who else would be responsible for the existence of the magical community?" Drew asked, raising an eyebrow. "It all had to start somewhere, right? Sure you get the occasional muggleborn, but without the magicla bloodline, we'd eventually die out." He looked over his sister's shoulder to see the article for himself. "That's not even what she's saying. She's just saying she shouldn't have to appologize for being pure blooded. She's proud of her background. What's so wrong with that?"
He didn't see anything wrong with the article, but thought it was kind of odd the woman felt the need to express herself in the paper, and he pulled a platter of eggs toward him and started filling up his plate.

((It was )) Great and there he was. At least it looked like Drew’s head was no longer bleeding and maybe he had forgotten about the bat incident. Probably not, but one could hope. Right? Trying to ignore Drew as much as possible he just ate the toast that he had previously placed on his plate hoping that he would take his normal tactic of ignoring him. It looked good at first like he might not even have to talk to the Raven, until, for some reason unknown to him Drew decided to address him. Turning slightly in his seat to look over at Drew saying, “You’re a pureblood aren’t you?” It was more of a rhetorical question then one he really wanted an answer to, because Ty could really careless what blood Drew was. He figured though that he had to be a pureblood to be such a prat with the ‘who else would be responsible’ question. “So what your going with is that purebloods started the wizarding race and they are the only ones that can continue it? Well that’s arrogant of you.” He said a bit annoyed that Drew was even there let alone badgering him on his answer, which wasn’t even addressed to him in the first place. "Nothing is wrong with that, as long as it doesn't clout your judgment, like it seems to have done in your case.” Ty said bluntly, “And if that’s all you think she is saying you might want to practice your comprehension skills a little more."

Kyle skipped into the hall with a big smile. He LOVED breakfast. And the eggs....the elves were almost as good of a cook as his mother was.
He did pause a bit when he noticed the rather odd sitting arrangement. What happened to the Slytherin table? But that thought was quickly driven away by the lovely smell of food. "My favourite meal of the day," he sat down, totally obliviously to what was going on, and filled up his plate with great enthusiasm.

"I doubt it was started by only purebloods," Arianna sat down across from the others amidst their conversation. She had yet to see the article, but had caught the tail-end of Ty's comments. "In case you didn't notice, Muggles far outnumber us and it's pretty much always been that way. Muggle-borns and half-bloods had to have helped out a bit."
At least, that's how it was in Qui-lin. Arianna certainly didn't have any qualms either way. She had grown up around Muggles, was taken in by Muggles, and was fortunate to have a home in a place where Muggle and Magical lived together, neither having to hide their talents from the other. It might not work out that way anywhere else on earth, but Qui-lins had found a way to do so.

"You mates're reading this, too?" Beni said upon arrival. She had heard them discuss this in passing and decided to stay. "Someone told me about this and I thought I ought to hear it for myself. Really, I see it simply: Girl wants to say something nice about her own heritage. I don't see anything wrong in that, and I'm only a half-blood, really." She tried wedging herself in. "At least she's not completely banishing the other kinds of bloods."

"As usual, Calister, you're blowing smoke out your butt," Drew andwered, munching on a piece of toast calmly. This was the exact reason Drew prefered to ignore the Slytherin. The snake wasn't worth his time or energy for the most part.
"Not once does she credit everything to pure-bloods. She says 'magical generations' and that can't be argued with. There wouldn't be such a strong magical community if we hadn't had strong magical people in our background. She's just talking about being proud of who you are. Yeah, I'm pure blooded... and damn proud of it. Last pure-blooded male in my family line. Why should I be ashamed of that? Why should I apologize for that? And you calling me arrogant and looking at me like I'm ready to brand myself with the Dark Mark... you just proved her point."
"THANK you Beni..." Drew said, making a big show at the arrival of the Gryffindor. Obviously, Ty was reading a different paper than he was.

"And you being the last pure blooded male in our line, somehow makes you better than me?" Allegra asked her brother, raising an eyebrow at him. Yes, the Thorntons had always been taught to be proud of their magical heritage... and the fact that it came from BOTH sides of their family made it doubly special. But that never meant for an instant that anyone In the family thought they were better than their half-blooded cousins.

"No... I'm just saying..." Drew answered, back peddling a bit at his sister's challange. "I'm carrying the name is all. Sure, Tad and Nick have it too, but..." It was coming out wrong and he knew it. He just wasn't saying it as well as the lady in the paper. The thing is Allegra knew he idolized his older cousin Tad, but the others would just hear him saying he thought his cousins were less than him.
"With us, the heratige is stronger," he finished, hoping that would clarify what he had been thinking. "Our bloodline crosses three continents. That's a lot to be proud of."

"Can I see that?" Arianna reached across and grabbed the paper before anyone could answer. She glanced through it and frowned. This small srticle, though some saw no problem with it, could cause an outbreak of sorts.
"It sounds like she has a bit of a...what's the right word? I mean, she shouldn't have to be afraid to say she's proud of who she is, but why does she feel the need to announce it like this?"

Allegra had a lot of things she could say back to her brother, but felt they were way too mean to say in front of other people. Maybe if it had just been Ari, she would have, but definitely not in front of everyone else. He really didn't need her badmouthing him in public.
Allegra read the paper again, sliding it over so Ari could read it too. She was pure-blooded from way back too and Allegra wondered what she'd think of it all.
"That's kind of what I'm wondering..." Allegra answered.

Beni, ever romantic and unknowing as ever, shrugged at Arianna. "She's freely expressing herself!" She gave a smile. "You know, with so much hostility towards these good purebloods, she's got to be feeling threatened now more than ever. Just as half-bloods or muggle borns want to defend themselves from the hatred, purebloods wish to do the same. She's just saying what they want to say." She slyly picked some food off of a Ravenclaw's plate. Her mulling over the subject was making her hungry. She was never this socially active (well in one sense than the other).

The longer Drew talked the righter Ty became and the more arrogant Drew came off. “You do realize that so far all you have said is that being a pureblood is the best and that you are better than your sister because you carry the name. Then you proceeded to say how someone else carries the name but stopped short, probably about to say that they weren’t pureblood or that their blood was some how more diluted than yours. How does that not come off as arrogance?” Ty asked not fazed by Drew’s come back and thinking that someone needed to take him down a notch, though he wasn't going to be the one to do it.

Drew put his hand up in Ty's face. The SLytherin still didn't hear a word that had been said and Drew didn't care to listen to the butthead anymore.
"It's a double standard she's fighting against is all," Drew added onto Beni. "Everyone pats the Muggle-borns and the half-bloods on the back for standing up to the prejudice and showing their pride, but when a pure-blood does it, automatically their a candidate for Voldemort's Youth. It's REVERSE discrimination. That's what it is."
