"Ty, be quiet. He so did not say that," Allegra answered, pushing Drew's arm down and out of the younger boy's face. Now she was extra glad she hadn't said anything mean back to her brother. She knew what he meant and that was the most important thing.

Ty didn’t care that Drew had stuck his hand in his face. It just proved that he was getting to him and if it wasn’t true about what Ty was saying then there would be no reason for such acts, so part of it had to be ringing true. “It’s not a double standard. The only reason that Muggle borns and half-bloods have to be proud of who they are is because people make them feel inferior because of their blood. People who think that they are higher on the chain of importance. People like you. You can be proud of your blood and not come off as arrogant but by saying that you are better than someone because your pureblood it just proves my point and what everyone else thinks about purebloods.

"Case in point," Drew said to the gathering crowd, offering them Ty's brilliant argument. To bad for the Slytherin that it just made Drew's case. "I never said I'm better than anyone. You've put those words into my mouth based on your own predjudices against pure bloods."
"How bout you go run off and play with the other little snakies and let the big kids talk, kay?" he said brightly, shooing Ty away. Yes, it was SO much easier to ignore the boy.

"No I didn't put them into your mouth. You said it your self when you said 'I'm carrying the name is all. Sure, Tad and Nick have it too, but...'. What else could you have possible meant by that. You surely weren't going to say that you are better than them because you blood is less pure. No you were going to say that their blood wasn't as pure. So you see that proves my point and the point that the writer is trying to fight against. Purebloods are arrogant if they are so proud of their blood that they have to flaunt it."
Ty wasn’t going anywhere. He had been there first and could have an opinion if he wanted to.

{actually, he had been there second ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) } "Ty, be quiet. You don't know what you're talking about," Allegra said softly, sorry she had even brought it up and even more sorry that she had challanged Drew's words in public. He had an awful habit of speaking before thinking and when he did that, it hardly ever matched what he had actually been going through his head. She knew what he had been thinking, but of course, no one else had. She shouldn't have bugged him about his wording at that particular moment. "You have no idea what he was going to say about Tad or Nick...much less who they even are. You're just making a judgement call. A prejudiced call at that." She was still speaking calmly, but yes, a little upset. "I can be proud of being pure blooded. I can stand on the table and shout it to the room I'm proud to be pure blooded. Does that make me arrogant too? Since when does having pride in who you are and where you came from mean arrogance?" It reminded her of the muggle kids back home. The Black kids had a club. The Asian kids had a club. The Hispanic kids had a club. Not clubs based on specific countries- a Nigerian club, a Morrocan club, a Mexican club, an Equadorian club... They were grouped as a total race. But could the white kids make a club? No, because then they were labled as prejudiced. It didn't seem very fair. It didn't feel right to even think such things and that didn't seem very fair either.

((True. Out of Drew and him, though, he was first. And you did ask his opinion ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) )) She was telling him to be quiet at the same time asking him questions. He wished she would make up her mind, not that he was going to listen to her anyways. There was no way that he was just going to abandon his point just because someone told him to be quiet. “I don’t have to be quiet.” he said rather aggressively, “If I’m not right about what he was going to say then why didn’t he just say it? I’ll tell you why. Because it would wind up making him look arrogant and prejudice. Much like you are trying to make me out to be.” He was getting a bit tired of arguing a case that seemed to be going nowhere it wasn’t like Drew was going to back down on his position or that he was either. “I don’t really give a damn what you do. You can jump up on the table and scream at the top of your lungs for all I care. All I’m saying is that you fulfill the stereotype when you talk as if you are above someone else and that pureblood somehow makes you better. That is when you become arrogant.”

{because I'm a nice person. And yo said yourself you didn't beling there ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) } The little boy was making her angry and making her fight for a side she wasn't even sure she was fully behind. Drew seemed to be ignoring Ty as he ate his breakfast calmly, but Allegra was fired up. She stood where she was, stomped onto the bench and then up to the table, shouting down at the Slytherin, "I'M PURE BLOODED AND DAMN PROUD OF IT! MY FAMILY CAN TRACE OUR LINEAGE BACK A THOUSAND YEARS AND FARTHER! IF THAT MAKES ME ARROGANT THEN YOU'RE JUST AS PREDJUDICED AND FULL OF MORE DOUBLE STANDARDS THAN THE PEOPLE YOU'RE TRYING TO KEEP DOWN!" She stood where she was, glaring down at the impudent little boy, trying her best not to let the anger turn into tears.

Yes, Drew had gone back to ignoring Ty. He had resumed the serene munching of toast, watching his sister as if she had announced in a plesant tone that it was a lovely day out.
"1200 at least," he corrected her, knowing that the strongest lines went even farther. He knew that look on her face and said nothing. But if Ty made her cry, Drew would pound him... Littledude or not.

"Shut up, Ty," Arianna was now glaring at the boy and shaking her head. He really didn't know when to sit back and listen, did he? So Drew might come off as arrogant sometimes. Arianna really didnt think it was on purpose. Nor did she think Ty should keep pressing the issue.
"I just don't see why anyone has to make such a big deal over it," she commented, trying to turn the attention to the paper and away from whether or not Drew truely was what Ty said he was. "Okay, so there is some prejudices out there, but some people tend to see things that aren't really there. I'm supposed to tone down whatever feelings I might have about my heritage because someone will supposedly be offended, but there's most likely a larger percentage who would cheer for me. The offended are simply....more outspoken. I say bugger them. Let me be me, if I offend you it's your problem, not mine."
Truely, Arianna wasn't sure which side of the issue she was on. She kinda felt like she had to pick a side. She couldn't rightly say she didn't care. Fence sitters never accomplished anything. But this article gave her the impression that someone was trying to get them riled up. Some people tend to take pride to the extremes.

Ty thought Allegra had lost it and gone completely insane. What was it with the Thorntons? Maybe there bloodline was pure but somewhere their was a flaw mentally. Just staring up at her he let her finish before saying, "Ok. Obviously you missed the point. I wasn't saying that you personally were arrogant I was saying when someone crosses that line it is arrogance. The line being when you talk like you are above others and that your blood is the best blood to have." Ty said calmly staring up at her as if he expected her to explode at any moment.

"She looks like she's above you from this angle," Drew said innocently, still munching on his toast. Okay, sometimes it was just too dang hard to ignore the boy. Ty practically fed that line to him.

Ty just looked over at Drew increduously. "Obviously. She is taller then me after all," Ty said as if Drews comment was so obvious that it was stupid to say. Still wondering why Drew didn't seem to care that his sister was yelling and making a complete fool of herself. "But that wasn't exactly what I was talking about, it was more of you think you are better then someone, not that you are taller then them." Ty continued trying not to come off rude or sarcastically, after all he didn't want Allegra flipping out on him again.

"Oh, is THAT what you meant?" Drew asked as if he were the biggest idiot on Earth for not realizing Ty had been talking about attitude, not stature.
"Come on down from there," he told Allegra, standing up and holding a hand out to her to help her off the table. "You know as well as I do, some people just like being narrow minded."

"Nice of you to point out the obvious," Arianna mumbled, just loud enough for Ty to hear. She was mulling over her toast now, feeling as though no one was really listening to her. Even Allegra's comment had gotten to her. Who cared if the Thorntons could trace their blood back that far? She certainly didn't. She only cared about the people sitting in front of her (though probably not Ty). Arianna had never seen this side of the Thorntons and while she was sure Allegra wasn't trying to say she was trying to say she and Drew were better simply because they could trace their pure blood back a few dozen generations, something about that comment irked her a bit.

Allegra took her brother's hand and stepped off the table, frustrated and a little embarassed about what she had done.
And... liberated. She had never talked about her family history because she had never felt the need. It had never come up and in the grand scheme of things, honestly didn't matter. So if it didn't matter, why not say it? She knew that it didn't make her any better, but it sure as heck didn't make her any less. Maybe the lady in the paper had a point. Why did she feel the sudden need to apologize for her words? Why had she never owned her lineage with the conviction she just had a few moments ago?
She took a seat next to Arianna, even more confused about the whole thing than she had been to start with.
