"That's right," he agreed and shoved another big spoonful of eggs into his mouth. Swallowing hard, he continued. "You know, perhaps people get so touchy on the subject because there are only 3 categories. If there are hundreds and hundreds of categories, people won't be able to remember all those and there won't be any incidents like this one anymore."

“At least not over bloodlines there wouldn’t,” Ty said grabbing an orange from the table and peeling it open. Kyle did have a point, if there was that many groups noone would even care if someone said they were better then the rest, they would just write it off as them being arrogant. Once his orange was peeled he pulled it apart and took a slice of it putting it into his mouth. “I really don’t even see the big deal about bloodlines as it is,” Ty continued after he was done eating his slice of orange, “To me a person is just a person, regardless of their bloodline.”

Kyle looked at Ty's orange with an odd expression. Who had orange as breakfast anyways? To him, it's all about grease and fat. Yum.
"And you are a three-fourths blood who eats frutis at breakfast," he commented and poured himself a big glass of orange juice. "Anyways, you really aren't that bad."

"Sometimes it helps, and sometimes it doesn't," Arianna responded. "It's all a matter of who's willing to listen AND take action. We can't change things if we do one without the other. We can't keep forcing our ideals on others and expect them to see our side if we aren't willing to see theirs."
"But is it so bad that I don't care what sort of blood my grandfather or great-great-great grandfather had?" she next questioned Drew. "I'm starting to feel like I HAVE to care. I'm proud of them for their accomplishments in making my home what it is, not because they're pure-blooded or whatever. It's just not important to me."

Ty just laughed and said, “Yep, I guess I am,” in response to Kyle’s name for him. It wasn’t such an odd thing to eat fruit for breakfast. Was it? He did it all the time and didn’t find anything wrong with it, but who knows maybe he was a bit odd in his breakfast habits. But if Kyle really thought about it he was actually having fruit to, only in the form of a beverage.
Kyle’s next comment took him for a bit of surprise. He really didn’t know what to say to that, he didn’t think he was ever THAT bad, but after all he wasn’t hanging around in a common room that contained Drew. “Um..Thanks. I like to think I am not.” Ty said taking another piece of his orange. "Your not to bad yourself."

"Of course it's not important. It's about as important as J-Lo being proud of her big butt. If anything, J-Lo's butt is more of an accomplishment. That doesn't mean someone can't be proud of it, right?" he asked, hoping he was making better sense this time. "Like all of those people who claim to be decendants of Ben Franklin or Godric Gryffindor. No one cares,it's just... kind of... interesting." At least he thought it was.

"Interesting, yeah," Arianna agreed with a short nod, which quickly turned to a shake. She was now staring down at her toes, shifting slightly from one foot to the other.
"Maybe 'pride' shouldn't even be used in this case," Arianna put in quietly, almost afraid she could be wrong in what she was saying. "Pride means that you feel yourself more important than another; having a high opinion of ones self. How can you go on a rampage about wanting equality when the definition of the words you use stae that you're better than those you want to be equal with?"

"Having pride in yourself and where you came from doesn't necessarily mean you think you're better than someone else though," Drew answered. "Especially if you realize that everyone has something to be proud of. It just means you're really happy with it and that it's special to you. Doesn't make it better."

Allegra had her head on the table, not even caring what Drew and Ty were yelling at each other about. As Beni drank out of her glass, Allegra pushed her breakfast plate over towards the Gryffindor as well. She had suddenly lost her appetite.
She was barely listening to Ty and Kyle's conversation about creating more sub-groups and she couldn't help but think that it was a silly idea. The whole problem was people were categorizing to begin with. they wanted to make it worse by adding more divisions? Why couldn't everyone just be people... Black, White, Jewish, Christian, Magical, Muggle. Just people.
Of course, then the non-humans would get upset for being separatist towards them...

Arianna shrugged again. Of course she was wrong. She was always wrong. Drew was always right. She couldn't argue with it and she wasn't going to try. She still didn't understand what the big deal was, why anyone felt the need to press the issue or display their pride. All she knew was that for the second time this term, she'd rather be home where none of this was put in question.
"Maybe you should look up the definition, too," Arianna mumbled out of frustration for her inability to get anyone to understand what she was trying to say. She always ended up feeling this way anytime she tried to discuss anything serious with Drew. Which may have been why she wanted to avoid the whole thing all together. Sure, it meant avoiding an argument, but they also didn't understand each other anymore than they had when they WERE fighting all the time.
"I think I should just go," the girl spoke a little louder this time, motioning to the door as she did so. She added a sigh and another shake of her head. She would never understand the whole pride issue.

"I know what it means..." Drew grumbled back, hating when Ari was mad at him and he couldn't fix it. The word could mean a lot of different things. You could have pride in a job well done, pride in your kids, pride before a fall, and pride of lions. Only one of them seemed bad to him.
"Don't bother. I'm leaving," Drew answered as he pushed past her, feeling miserable he had just botched it all again.

Arianna sighed again. She should have just stayed out of the whole thing, shouldn't she? The two of them had such different ideas about the same things, it was amazing they had been friends for so long. Ah, yes, that was another thing she didn't understand.
"Okay," the girl frowned as Drew pushed past her. She had to take a step back to keep from toppling over, but once she got her balance, the girl took one glance around the room before heading out after the boy. Not to go after him, though she would like to have done, but to head off to class. They both might need a little time to themselves anyway.

Somehow, he suddenly remembered Maru. If that boy heard someone saying "You are not too bad yourself" he probably would literally glow with sheer joy. He would be so excited that he probably would start jumping up and down until someone immobilized him. Or worse, he very well might start singing, then Kyle would have to hex him, even though he didn't know a lot of hexes.
He saw Allegra looking not so happy, and had no idea that his silly conversation was part of the reason. "I am Kyle, what's your name?" he asked after finishing his juice in two big gulps. Perhaps Quidditch just brought out his not-so-good side, and let's hope it's only Quidditch.

Ty also noticed that Allegra had seemed to go from one extreme, yelling on the table, to the other, just laying there. He wondered briefly what could have brought about such a mood change, but he wasn’t all that worried about it. After all he liked her laying there better then he like her in his face yelling.
“I’m Ty,” Ty said with a smile over at the Ravenclaw. Finishing off his orange he wondered what year Kyle was in. He thought he must be in first since he hadn’t been in any of his classes so he couldn’t be in second or third year, and he didn’t look big enough to be above a third year. “I’m in second year, what year are you in?” he continued in a friendly tone.

Gail was growing increasingly frustrated with the conversation. Ari looked the same, and she felt it was her fault for getting the other girl involved in the fruitless argument. If she hadn’t done something so stupid, Ari wouldn’t have had to get her out of her situation. And that would have kept her out of the discussion. If that word could be used on it.
Suddenly, Gail heard a strange noise. She looked across Ari and saw Allegra with her head on the table. The Head Girl seemed to have the right idea. Before she could do anything, Drew got up and headed toward the doors. Ari was close behind him. She sighed. This wouldn’t be over any time soon. The next few weeks would be filled with people growing apart because of this.
The little firstie introduced himself to Callister as Kyle, and the Slytherin returned the favor. The table was starting to empty as classes were about to start. Gail looked at her watch, and with time to spare, moved to the other side of Allegra, still with her head on the table. She poked the Head Girl on the shoulder. “Hey, Allegra. Can you help me out with Potions?”
