"That's what they want you to think... they'd use something harmless so as not to raise suspicion," Drew said quietly, execting her arms to leave him any second as he spouted his bits of lunacy. "You're a half-blood and probably the most vulnerable. People think it's the Muggle borns, but it's not. Half-bloods are in more danger because their parents mixed on purpose. They could have intercepted your father's package and tampered with it, making it go off at just the right moment."
The logical part of his brain knew darn well that it was a spell that had gone wrong, but those dang voices were so sure it was a sinister plot, determined to eradicate any who were not pure.
"Just... just let me check it over?" he asked, wincing at the absurdity of his own request. "I just need to be sure, okay?"

Part of what he had to say made sense. It seemed logical that half-bloods would be in just as much, if not more, danger than muggleborns. And the idea that they'd use something unlikely to be a weapon of sorts also made sense. But what didn't make sense was why he thought they'd be targeting her. Because she was a half-blood? It was possible, but there were more likely candidates to be attacked than she and if they really wanted a victim so badly, they'd go for one of them. And how would they know when the right moment was?
Doubt filled her mind about the whole idea. While it was no secret she was horrible at wandwork, why would they care? Unless Drew was thinking it was to get closer to someone else. The only ones Felicity hung around with a lot were Drew and Celina, both were purebloods, and yes Drew had already had an experience; but it just didn't make sense.
And then he requested she let him check it over. Once more, Felicity wasn't too sure about the idea. He may have felt better once he did check it over, but what about that small chance he was correct in his thoughts? Wouldn't it be better to have someone with more experience take a look at the trinket? Like Professor Raynor? It was no secret she had once been an auror, so if anyone should have a look-see, it'd be her.
While she didn't doubt the boy's ability, she really wasn't too keen on the idea.
"All right," she whispered softly to him, against her better wishes. At least she knew the librarian was around somewhere if it came down to it, and if something was wrong or happened she could just get him, even if he had a cane. "If it'll make you feel better, take a look."
With that, she dropped her arms from around him and took a step back, hanging her head slightly. Felicity knew there wasn't anything wrong with it, there was no reason for something to be wrong with it, but she didn't really feel comfortable letting him look at it either, just in case.

She stepped back from him, looking so sad and he wasn't sure why. Sharing his paranoia had been a mistake, he saw that now. It had obviously disturbed her and to be honest, he couldn't say he was surprising. The best he could hope for now was to show her that those voices weren't a majority of what went on.
He took up her hand, wishing her arms were back around him but knowing it wasn't a possibility at the moment. With one quick movement he leaned in and kissed the side of her head. "Thank you for understanding," he said softly, dropping her hand again and not sure she really did understand.

He kissed the side of her head, and she suddenly wished he hadn't kissed her there, but rather on the lips. However, she put a stop to that wish, knowing it wasn't about to happen anytime soon, if ever. The blonde nodded at him, not really sure he understood. She only kind of understood his paranoia, but she hadn't even bothered to voice her own about thinking Raynor should look at the toy rather than him. Felicity didn't want to hurt him by making him think she didn't think he could handle it, but if there was something wrong, which she hoped against hopes and highly doubted, she didn't want anything to hurt him.
He let go of her hand, and she found herself wishing once more. Wishing won't do anything, she told herself. If you want something to happen, you have to make it happen yourself. The Gryffindor knew that, but she wasn't about to disturb him either.
"Drew," she started tentatively, concern showing through her eyes as she looked at him. "Just be careful, please?" she pleaded. There couldn't be anything wrong with it, it was a toy, a trinket. Nothing could be wrong with it, but then again there was doubt on that part too. There was a chance, but she really hoped nothing was wrong with the toy, that it had been due to an incorrect spell casting.

Drew crouched in front of the toy, his wand prodding at it gently. He looked over his shoulder at her and smiled, finding her concern not only endearing, but encouraging. He turned back to the toy and gently pushed it over with his wand, checking the outside for any sign of tampering.
It would have been better if he could take it to Raynor's office, knowing she had a couple of devices that would help detect a jinxing of an object, but he was also confident that the signs and spells he knew would give him enough peace of mind... and probably make him feel a little foolish for freaking out. Ah well, better to be safe than sorry, right?
He found the hinge to the box and gently poked it open. "Aperio," he mumbled, knowing that the traces of most jinxes would show up under a revealing spell. He didnt' see anything, but of course, it wouldn't hurt to give it another once... or twice, over.

Watching him from behind, she nervously wrapped her arms around herself. Now, the doubt was strongly there, but he had her worried as he was looking at it. At least he was being cautious, but she found it a little funny that he didn't touch the toy. He'd already held it in his hands, if anything were to happen it would've happened then, right?
Biting down on her lip, she was relieved when nothing happened. He'd casted a spell, waved his wand just enough, and nothing had happened. That was good. In fact that was great and she let out a soft sigh of relief. Stepping up behind him, she gently touched his shoulder and looked down at him.
"Everything's good, right? No harm?" she asked quietly. It was quite clear about her relief, and she hadn't lost the tone stating that she wasn't holding anything against him.

Her touch startled him and he jumped slightly before turning to grin sheepishly at her. Of course the crazy voices had been wrong. The toy was fine and with a small Repario, Drew had it back as good as when Felicity had first brought it out of her pocket.
He fought the urge to apologize for his parinoia again, feeling like he was tired of sorrys. "Thanks for humoring me," he told her, handing the box back to her.

Taking the toy back, she quickly put it into the pocket from whence it came before leaning towards him and wrapping her arms around his neck once more. "Anytime," she whispered into his ear before softly kissing her cheek. "I wasn't really sure I wanted you to look at it, though," she admitted. Best to have it out in the open. "I was going to suggest we get Raynor to take a look, but..." she trailed off. "I trusted you'd be good to take a look-see."
No, she wasn't going to tell him she'd held her breath waiting for something completely ridiculous to happen, and she also wasn't going to tell him she was afraid of him getting hurt. Because she did trust him, she trusted his ability.

He giggled a little, finding her whisper enjoyably ticklish, and her kiss on his cheek made his face flush. He put his arms back around her waist and suddenly realized that this was probably the best way to get rid of crazy voices. It made him feel good, it made him feel right, and it made him feel like he could do anything when she smiled at him like that.
"We can keep trying the spell if you want," he told her, knowing that the paranoia would have a hard time returning.

Grinning up at him, she loved it when he made that giggling noise. It was so adorable, he was so adorable; and she let her own small giggle escape when he put his arms around her again. She really did enjoy it.
"Are you sure you wouldn't mind?" she asked hesitantly. The Gryffindor wanted to learn the spell, and she knew the best way for her to do so was with practice and a bit of help. "Or we could try another day, perhaps?" she asked, offering another option. Of course, that didn't mean she wanted to leave his company if he did say another day would be best.

He quickly weighed the pros and cons, thinking that if he suggested practicing another day, it almost guaranteed he'd get to see her again, but of course, it opened the possibility that she'd go off and leave him right then and there.
And then there was the thought that suggesting they practice would keep her around a bit longer, but would mean he'd have to actually let her practice which meant he couldn't have his arms around her or hers around him. Quite a dilemma.
"You want to help me study for a little?" he suggested. All he was doing was reading and he could probably do that with at least one arm still around her, right?

"Help you study?" she asked with a smile, nodding her head. The blonde figured that meant he wanted to push helping her with the spell back to another day, which she was fine with, but it also meant he wanted her to hang around a little longer, too. Or at least she hoped it did.
And she could be helpful, or a large hinderance, but either way it meant she'd get to spend time with him, which was always a plus. "So what are you studying?" she asked, deciding it'd at least be good to know what the material was, though one thought flitted into her mind, only to be swept right back out. That thought wasn't even a close answer.

"Herbology?" he answered tentatively. He actually struggled more with Astronomy, but told himself that this way he wouldn't really have to concentrate on the actual information. "The only decent teacher we've ever had in the past five years was Robert Shaw and we all see how great that turned out."

"All right," she agreed. "I can help with that, maybe." Actually, Felicity was pretty fair at the subject. Herbology and Potions were indeed her best, and she might actually be able to help him. At least if she didn't turn out to be bothersome.
Although she agreed to help him, she didn't really want to let go of him either, but unfortunately, it wasn't going to be easy to help him study if she didn't.

So this was the point where he had to let her go in order to go back and get his books where he had left them. He took her hand and pulled her back to the table he had been sitting at. Now that they had settle on Herbology, he wasn't sure exactly what they could go over, but he'd figure out something.
He pulled his book and notes out of his backpack with his free hand, but dropped his hold on her to pat the bag down, obviously having trouble locating something. "I think someone took my glasses.." he mumbled to himself worriedly, obviously unaware that their location was as plain as the nose on his face.
