He had felt her tense up and pull back slightly, but there wasn't anything he could do about it while he held the small box other than hope she didn't totally move away. He relaxed when she didn't and then, miracle of miracles, she semed to understand what he was trying to say and, best of all, accepted. If she wanted details, he'd give them to her, but he wasn't going to offer any more information about that broken promise unless she asked. What was most important was he wasn't going to break this one.
She hadn't taken the box, though she had agreed to the promise, so he carefully tugged at the white ribbon tied around it. If she didn't open her own present, as anxious as he was, he'd open it himself.

Drew didn't say anything more to her, but instead pulled the little jewelry box's ribbon, making it slide off the box he held. Her arms remained around him, but she sidled off to his side so she could watch him open the gift. She liked opening her own presents, but she liked watching him open gifts as well, though being he knew what it contained, his face wouldn't hold the same surprise it did when he opened a gift from someone else. It didn't matter though, she couldn't wait to see what he got her.
Snuggling deep into his body, breathing him in quickly, feeling complete about his promise to her and hers back, she wondered what she got.
"You're still not going to tell me what it is before you open it?" she asked with a smile on her face. She wanted to find out, excited to know what was inside, and really, really nervous about it. "You know I love you, right?" she whispered softly, waiting to see the gift.

"You're going to let me open it?" he asked with a smile as he glanced into her eyes. He wanted to watch her do it, but he kind of liked things this way too. She moved to the side and he lassoed her into his arms, holding her back to his front and holding the box out in front of the both of them.
The ribbon undone, he draped it over her head, giggling a little as he did so. Slowly he opened the box to show her what was inside and while he couldn't see her reaction, he was pretty sure that feeling it would be just as much fun.

“It has been a lot of fun hanging out. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one having so much fun.”
She smiled at Dante, her hand touching the cup of punch lightly. Looking away for a second she turned back, a blush on her cheeks. "You're special, you know that? Not like the other guys. I really love hanging out with you." She chuckled lightly at her next thought. "And you're the only one to hit me with a snowball."
Taking another sip of her drink Tallulah needed to do something to let her figure out what she wanted to say next. There was something she wanted to say to Dante, but she was unsure how to exactly say it. Should she outright ask him or suavely find a way to ask him? Tallulah wasn't sure she could do the latter at the moment. No one could notice the inner turmoil she was putting herself through as she thought about the proper route of this night.
She put her cup down and let her eyes go over to a Ravenclaw in her year and her boyfriend. Autumn was her name, some season. She didn't know the boyfriend's name. A pang of jealousy ran through her. She wished she had that, their love, their freedom. Everything about her life was set before she with no deviations or ways out. All she wanted to do was flip her parents the birdie and do things her way.
And that was exactly what she was going to do. Clearing her throat she turned back to Dante. Filled with a new confidence she gave him a smile. Only in her eyes could you see how scared she was about this. "Dante? I was wondering..." Her voice trailed off as she tried to find the perfect words. "I was wondering if you'd like to go out sometime. On..On a date." Her body tensed up as she waited for his answer, hopefully a good one.

He sounded surprised about the fact she didn't mind him opening her gift. In fact, she did like the thought of him opening her gift, it felt different. When his arm linked around her, pulling her in front of him and she'd gotten comfortable against him so she could see what he got her. As the ribbon touched her hair, the nerves sent little thrills through her, making her shiver involuntarily but she giggled when she heard his. His laughter was so nice and warm, even if it was too cute as well. But the ribbon in her hair would match those all ready in place in her curls.
Her eyes watched as the little box was opened, excited to find out what it would be.
And when she saw it, glimpsed the silver, she let a smile take over her lips. Though it took another moment to realize what exactly he was offering her. At that moment, she felt her breath catch, her mouth go dry, and every single nerve in her body go crazy. Was he really offering her that? Something so precious? That kind of a promise? She thought she knew what he meant by a promise, but was he really offering the promise in the form of something more than just words?
Finding it hard to breathe, she didn't know what to do. Find her breath. That was important. But even more than that was the fact he loved her that much.
Twirling around, not taking the gift because she found it more important to see him instead, the blonde threw her arms around his neck and pulled him down to meet her eager lips. Yes her head screamed, but she couldn't find it in herself to tell him she accepted his Promise Ring like that, she wanted to tell him in her own way. Yes, she accepted his promise.

He realized he had been holding his breath only after he let it go. He wasn't sure she would like it, but by her reaction, he thought that maybe she did. He couldn't see her initial smile, but he could feel her sharp intake of breath and at first he wasn't sure if it was a good thing or a bad one.
And then she turned in his arms, grabbed him around the neck, and pressed her lips against his. Still holding onto the small box, he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her back. It was all the answer he needed.

It was funny she actually knew what the gift was, knew what he'd meant. But then again, she had helped Jacob choose one for his now fiancee ages ago. Well, more Lindsay and Meredith had helped than him, but she had helped. However, that ring didn't even compare to the one in the little blue box Drew had offered her. Though she hadn't had a chance to inspect it as of yet, she knew it would be the most wonderful ring she'd ever seen, it was after all from the most wonderful boy.
Pulling back from the kiss after a moment, letting her eyes take in everything about this moment, his face, the snow, the atmosphere. It was perfect. Another moment in her life with him that was so wonderfully perfect. The only mishap in this was that she was wearing the wrong clothing, but that didn't even bother her anymore, she didn't think anything could right then.
"Will you put it on me?" she whispered softly, staying as close as possible to him. A promise was much more than she'd ever expected to receive. They had only been dating for a little over a year, and this, well, this was more than she could ever hope for. The only boy in the world she had ever loved, and had had so many firsts with, was also giving her a promise to be hers, to allow her to be his.

" Awfully sweet? I bet he's thinking about how he doesn't want to mess up. "
Sophia felt herself realizing that it was probably how everyone was feeling at the dance...not awfully sweet, but awfully self-conscious. Even if one found themselves far away from being in the couple setting, they would still be nervous about what to say, what to do. She knew that she was a little worried about how she was coming off, being a sixteen year-old girl and all.
When she asked Connor about his track record of trouble, his reply made her shake with laughter.
" Well... at my old school, we put this semi-permanent gunk on all of the desks in the History classroom... 'cause we didn't like the Professor. "
"I see! That sounds like quite the feat." She pictured Connor sheepishly putting the gunk everywhere on the desks and then putting on a cheesy smile when the professor walked in. "I wish I could've seen that."
" And what about you, innocent Gryffindor girl. You ever played a trick on anyone? "
A smirk came to her lips and they curled ever so slightly.
"I guess you could say that I've caused a little bit of trouble...not a noticeable amount, of course." She grinned. "I used to go to a muggle Performing Arts school and it was a lot of fun. Being in a school like that, all of the students were outgoing and had great senses of humor, very much like the teachers. April Fool's Day was always a great day at school, and anyone could prank anyone; it was fair game. I actually managed to put superglue on a bunch of desks and railings and a couple of doorknobs that day..." She felt herself turn a little pink with a mixture of excitement and embarrassment. "It was really funny."

He was taking a sip of his drink as the girl asked her question. Go out? On a date? Well this was an interesting situation unfolding before him. It was indeed what he was thinking she would want to talk about. He could only comment in his head how he seemed to be getting better at reading what people intended. And with that confidence came the realization that despite thinking that might happen he had not thought of what he would do. What answer he could give, and so he went through several of the possibilities in his head. It only took a second or so to think of it all, so he was not leaving Tallulah stranded waiting for an answer very long.
Flight is a natural reaction to a stressful situation. And it was the very first thing that went through Dante's mind. To just get out of this uncomfortable situation by running out, or at the very least walking away from the table. He could go get more to drink for the two of them. At least then he would have time to think. Who knows, at that point he could slip to the door and just walk out of the dance. It hit him then how outlandish, rude, and generally uncharacteristic he was being. Not to mention foolish. But still, the thought of running had gone through his head.
He could say no, but was that what he wanted to do? Not really. Claim to be a traditionalist and say no to her asking, but only because he thought it right to ask her out? He had to stop for a moment just to smile at how ridiculous that last thought was. If he did that, the girl would probably think he was mocking her or that he was crazy. Either way, it was a foolish thing to test out. He did like Tallulah, though it was hard for him to express it, even in his mind. She was sweet, willing to have fun being childish throwing snow at each other, and her eyes were always mesmerizing. The list continued from there on her qualities. So what was so hard in saying yes?
The answer came very simply, there was nothing hard in saying yes. And that was all the convincing he really needed for what he was about to do. He had been avoiding eye contact as he thought of all this, so when he finally came to an answer he looked straight into Tal's eye. His face was far more calm than the chaos that was going on inside, nerves had been set on end and if he was not in a crowed he probably would either be shaking nervously, or jumping up and down in excitement. Childish for sure, but that was why he suppressed the desire. “I would love to go on a date with you Tal” he said with a grin on his face. Valentine's Day, go figure.

Having her that close and knowing she loved him as much as he loved her was positively the most incredible feeling in the whole world. He had been worried that his story would bother her and of course there was a chance she would hate his present. After wrecking the previous Valentines and then both their birthdays, he was thrilled he had managed to get this one right.
"You want me to put it on you?" he asked, trying hard to ignore his tingling toes and the butterflies that suddenly quadrupled their activity. It was one thing to give a girl a ring, but to be the one to slip it on her finger made it all official and was definitely something special to him.
He unlooped his arms from around her, holding the small box and carefully picking the ring out of it. Holding it between two fingers he held it out to her, his nervousness told in his crooked smile. "There's something inside," he told her, wanting to make sure she saw the engraving.

Knowing they’d really only known one another about a year and a half, just a little more than that, and they’d only been dating just over a year, didn’t stop Felicity from loving him. He was the absolute most amazing boy in the entire world and she was lucky to have him love her, like her even. The fact he’d given her a promise that was that sincere, that real, that romantic, only made her feel like they really were meant to be together all that much more. Her dad would completely disagree, but she felt like they belonged, everything felt right, even their fights. Though she was too easily frustrated by them, they felt right.
Nodding in answer to his question, she wanted him to be the one to place the ring on her finger. If he was giving the precious piece to her, and he was promising her, then she wanted him to also be the one to seal the promise by placing it upon her finger.
Her own brown eyes never left his face, wanting to memorize this moment, needing to know every detail because once she was able to go home she would be bombarded by questions about it all. When he mentioned something inside, she wasn’t sure what he meant. Inside the castle? The box? Further down? Or did he mean the ring?
“Did you want me to look now? Or do you want me to wait…?” Wait until he changed it, or now? It was his decision, of course it would eat away at her if she didn’t look, but she thought she could do it.

“I would love to go on a date with you Tal”
Eyes that were a second ago filled with fear and anxiety were now calm. Her cheeks flushed red, but not because she was embarrassed but from sheer bliss. Tallulah hadn't felt something like this in her whole life. Confidence like this didn't come from beauty or money. It came from heart and soul. Something she never thought she had. In that moment of feeling this newfound knowledge she changed.
Unable to do anything but smile at that moment she grinned again at Dante. Her eyes were still on Dante, taking him in. How could such a wonderful person like a wretch like herself? Her past was murky, she was a brutal person, horrid at times. Since meeting people at Hogwarts, him specifically she changed who she was. She was amazed to find someone who could make her feel like this.
With her hand that was on the table she picked up her present from Dante and held it in her hand. With that hand she opened it, looking inside at what was given to her. Putting the box down she touched one of the candy flowers lightly. "I don't think I'll ever be able to eat such beautiful candies," She said without looking at her, though by her smile you could tell he was in her mind anyway. Light brown eyes looked over to him. "Hope you don't mind."
She reached for her cup of punch and took a sip. The coldness of the drink went through out he body, taking away some of the heat. As she put the cup down she looked away, only for a second. She wondered if anyone else was having as much fun as she was. The people looked happy there, dancing and smiling with their loved ones or friends. Something about this night resonated within her.
"Do you like dancing?" She asked as she turned back. Tallulah's smile transformed into a mischievous one, something Dante had seen before in the potions classroom.

He was a little confused by her question and his expression probably displayed it. She wanted him to put the ring on her, so how could she wait until later to look at it. Of course he wanted her to see it now.
"I... I had it... it's engraved inside..." he said a little nervously, holding the ring up to her eye level so she could see inside. He still wasn't sure what she meant by her question, but he had discovered that if he just restated something, it sometimes fixed the problem. He wasn't sure why because he didn't think he said anything differently, but somehow it helped.

Seeing the confusion on his face, she contorted her own face into one of confusion. Didn't he understand what she was asking? Did he want her to see it now, or wait until he hopefully one day changed it? Or maybe she was thinking something different than he was. But he made that kind of a promise, didn't he? She was sure he had.
I... I had it... it's engraved inside...
Slowly transferring her focus from his face to the object he held before her, taking her first lengthy look at it, she squinted slightly to read the inscription in the dimness of the night. It was pretty, and she liked what it said, a glowing smile taking over her face to show how she felt. Their initials, carved into something. How many times had she written their initials together? Their names entwined together, sometimes interchanging his name for hers at times as well. It was all out of fun, but she loved the look of their names together.
"I like it," she told him softly, reaching out to trail a finger along the metal. Pulling her hand back, she waited for him.

As she traced over the ring with her finger, he couldn't help but smile. He was glad she liked it and quite honestly, he was pleased with himself for not messing things up this time. He had thought long and hard about picking the right ring for her, but the message inside had been the easiest decision. It was the engraving actually, that he liked the best about his present to her. It was the two of them, connected.
She withdrew her finger and he took her hand back up in his, giving a deep sigh and biting his lip out of nervousness. It was a simple gesture, slipping the small silver hoop over the second to the last finger on her right hand, but he was still worried about it. What if there was some huge secret to putting a ring on a girl and he didn't know it? What if he did it wrong?
There were too thoughts that comforted him. The first was that if he didn't know the secret to giving a promise ring, chances were she didn't either. The second, and most important thought was that even if he did it wrong, he knew she'd still love him.
He looked in her beautiful brown eyes, noticing how they sparkled from the lights around them. With a crooked smile he slipped the ring on her and gave a huge and happy sigh.
