Has it always been... crazy? Even though at first Celina was confused by what Connor had meant, it clicked as she thought back on the year. The only really crazy thing that had happened that new comers were probably not accustomed to was the invasion by the Deva, and though that wasn’t what happened every year, something had happened every year since her third year. But still, Celina played dumb. “What do you mean, crazy?” she shrugged, really not wanting Connor to think badly of the school he was now at.
“Beauxbatons?” Celina tried to remember what school that was and then smiled. “Oh! The school in France?” She had often wondered why Jax Chaput wasn’t in that school, seeing how the younger student was French herself, but had never asked. Celina and Jax hadn’t really gotten along after the Deva invasion, and so Celina didn’t push her luck with the girl. They were Ravens, and would probably do anything for each other if need be, but that was probably where it was going to end. It saddened Celina a bit that she had lost a friend, but Jax just couldn’t understand.
Celina nodded as Connor talked about having friends there and such and wondered slightly. “So, what brought you to Hogwarts then?” Celina asked, curiosity getting the best of her.
Celina’s smile grew wider as Connor seemed to understand her –predicament—when it came to her parents and them allowing her to do what. It wasn’t as if they’d be out forever or anything, just a few hours. Without thinking about it, Celina squeezed Connor’s arm gently and then pulled away, slightly clapping her hands in excitement and giggling. “Great,” Celina said nodding. “So then, the first day of the festival, two o’clock?” she reiterated so she wouldn’t get it wrong.
After that her mother got near the table, a large smile on her face. “Ready to go, Celina?” Elizabeth asked, smiling genuinely not only at her daughter, but her daughter’s friend. “Connor, this is my ma’ma,” Celina quickly introduced, excitement still dancing in her eyes at the prospect of the music festival. “Ma’ma, this is Connor Manning, from school. We’re in the same year.”

Connor gave a light shrug as she asked what he meant by ‘ crazy. ‘
“ Well, the takeover doesn’t sound like something that happens every year to every school. “ At Beauxbatons nothing truly bad had ever happened whilst he was there. Small things such as the French Ministry looking over the curriculum and monitoring the teachers, but nothing like the takeover. At least that he could recall. He was pretty positive that if something so big had happened he would have remembered the event.
He nodded as she said the name of his previous school in a questioning way. Once she remembered where it was he smiled, answering, “ Yes, that’s the one. Lovely school, really. “ He had liked the school while attending it, but it was nice to have a small bit of variety having gone to Beauxbatons and Hogwarts. As she asked what brought him to Hogwarts the sixteen year old shrugged again. “ I got.. into some trouble, and my parents decided that a change in school might want to be good. So we moved to a flat in London and I started attending Hogwart’s. “ The move had been pretty bad for Connor, just as he was getting used to Beauxbatons and speaking French most of the time he got into trouble and had to move once again. He was used to change, it was normal, but this really affected him to the point where he didn’t even feel like speaking French anymore. He forced himself to forget even though he thought the language was extremely beautiful. He half sighed, regretting that he would ever let himself do such a thing.
Ah – parents. They could drive you crazy, but you find yourself loving them all the same.
At least that was how Connor found himself to think of his parents. And from what Celina said, it sounded like that was how she thought of her parents as well. Perhaps he was wrong, but he guessed the opposite. “ Yes, two o’clock. See you there? “ He questioned although he already knew the answer to his question.
As Celina’s mother finally arrived at the able, Connor stood and offered her his hand to shake as Celina introduced the two. “ It’s nice to meet you, Mrs. Jedynak. “ He said with a polite smile. Politeness went a long way in his opinion.

Yes, Connor had meant exactly what Celina hoped he hadn’t and she searched her mind for ways around such things. It was not something she’d want to start any more rumors about or something, not to mention, what had happened was in the past. Celina knew that it couldn’t continue down such paths, could it?
“No. Nothing like the take over had ever happened before,” Celina said, still thinking to herself. “That was new…” she trailed off, nodding her head. At least no one was killed or kidnapped this time. Tortured….unfortunately, but no one was killed….Celina kept thinking that in the end, everything was ok. Wasn’t it?
Beauxbatons sounded like a nice school, and one that Connor enjoyed thoroughly. And yet, what he said concerned Celina. “Trouble?” she asked, hoping she wasn’t being rude. “Not that it’s any of my concern…really…” she trailed off, her words becoming more and more silent as she knew she was treading on thin ice. It wasn’t her place to ask of him such things, as it wasn’t her place to judge her school based on whom they must have put in the Prefects position in her house.
Celina’s mind wandered, thinking of how she had worked so hard for the last five years only to be beaten out again. Even Connor, who was new to Hogwarts, had gotten Prefect, and though she wasn’t blaming him or anything, it sat heavy with her heart. She must have really screwed up that year, making friends with Felicity and Drew and all the others. Distracting her from her work and such. Unless, it had been something else? But what could it have been? The Newspaper, perhaps? Or…Celina didn’t know, but she tried not to let it choke her up too much, or get in the way of the good time she was having.
See you there?
“Oh, definitely,” Celina said sweetly, cocking her head and smiling brightly. “It will be amazing.”
Elizabeth noted the boy’s appearance and then the polite gesture of the hand that went out to her. She shook it still smiling, and Celina got up to stand by her mother’s side. “It is a pleasure…I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting many of my daughter’s friends. I’m so glad to be acquainted with you, Connor.” Elizabeth smiled proudly, and yet still starred a bit too long at the piercings and stuff, before looking away back at her daughter.
“Shall we then?” Elizabeth asked, gesturing toward the doorway. “Your father will be home soon.” Celina nodded and looked back briefly at Connor giving him one last smile and a nod. “I’ll see you around then,” she said to him before turning and walking toward the door, every so often, glancing back to get one or two last looks. The music fest was going to be amazing. Celina couldn’t wait.

A lot of times Connor brushed off the topic of the take over. It was big, though, major in fact. He just brushed it off, brushed off the feeling of fright and wonder. He couldn’t believe what had happened had actually happened. Once his parents found out they wanted for him to go home for a while, but he had argued against it thoroughly until they felt he could stay.
As much as he brushed off the event, it was still fresh in his memory. He liked to think it wasn’t a big deal, though so as Celina sort of brushed the topic off, mentioning that something like the take over had never happened before, he merely nodded. In all of the history of Hogwarts, it was likely that something such as that had happened, possibly multiple times. But were the motives the same? Now that Connor thought on it, he wasn’t even sure of the exact reasons for the take over. Power, to be sure. Of what sort was still questionable to him, though. Pulling himself from his light trance he said, “ Hope next year’s better. “ He said this with a smile, a hint of a smirk behind it.
Connor didn’t mind much that Celina was asking about him getting into trouble at Beauxbatons, he suspected that if he told more people the reason for leaving the school they would ask the same thing as well. He cleared his throat slightly before answering. “ I sort of… got in with the wrong crowd and we all got into some trouble pranking on of our professor’s. It wasn’t… the most intelligent thing I’ve ever done. “ He said with a sheepish grin as a light blush made its way to his face now.
He was used to the stares, used to the too-polite smiles. He merely smiled in response to the woman’s stares. He had grown accustomed to it, and he suspected no different from Celina’s mother. “ It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, “ He commented to her as he dropped his hand back to his side and looked back to Celina with a small smile. “ Yeah, see you… “ He trailed off, watching with amused eyes as she would glance back at him every once in a while, the smile still in place.
Thinking about everything they had talked about Connor made his way back over to his chair and sat down with a light sigh. Reg gave him a knowing glance as the older girl came around and filled his tea once again. She smiled at him and said, ‘ New friend? ‘ Connor sent an annoyed look at the young woman, she took the hint and left but not without a small smile on her face. He hoped that she wouldn’t tell his sister, Reg and Bella were familiar after all. But really, there was nothing to tell. He and Celina were friends. The sixteen year old shook his head as he reached over to his lap top and pulled it close to himself once more.
