She could sort of tell what was happening to her, at least what she was thinking. It was a pleasant pattern, all beginning with a few words: "there it was again". And yes, it was there. Just as the time before whenever he told her things that brought her to examine the relationship she had with him. In the same time, it also gave her the acknowledgement of how their bond was progressing. In all of those times, Alfonz could bring her an immense feeling of surprise but without an anxiety that she hated to feel. In fact, whenever he had those magical words, they were liberating. For it was true. He helped her just as she helped him. Perhaps it was the avoidance of a personality that would dull out.
It was what she needed. She needed him.
Her words were gone for two moments at a time. "I never thought of it that way." Pause, including a mental smack to her mind for sounding like an idiot. Any kind of mental pain in her head though seemed to wash away with his kiss. "Tha... thank you." She had her head lowered, but she was mostly trying to hide her smile. He had her speechless.

As her head lowered, he found himself tracing her cheek pushing some hair behind her ear. Alfonz smiled and allowed her head to stay lowered. He didn't want her to see the confusion, wonder, and possibly argument that bustled in his mind over her. The young woman was one Alfonz would never had stopped for in passing. Maybe that was why fate had made him literally run into her in the bookstore. Destiny had always been against him in one way or another, and now as he stood with Shay, he found it at him again. Pulling him in multiple directions, fate couldn't make up its mind and Alfonz had no clue where he stood at that moment in time.
"There's no need to thank me, I'm just stating the obvious," he smiled and a little laugh escaped him. It wasn't as if he had lied to her. She had caught his attention, and it wasn't everyday that Alfonz Jedynak even saw a woman appealing, let alone approachable. Could it have been that his heart had grown soft? Or was it that all men needed something that they could call there own when it came to a woman? The idea of it had at one time sickened him, but now it seemed as if between Shay and his other business matters, she was on his mind more each day. It didn't sicken him, more than it infuriated him because he couldn't stop.
His frustration could have possibly been seen in the storms that raged in his dark eyes, but he tried to hide it from Shay. Fate had made them both take a chance with one another that they both would probably had never taken if they hadn't run into each other. And now, fate was messing everything Alfonz knew up, and showing him new ways and paths. His goal was still the same. Protect those he loved from the impure and disgusting. His views, however, had changed slightly. They had become more defined about what he wanted, and didn't want. What he found more pure than what was not. But one thing still remained the same, and that was making sure that the a current right be fought for. By doing that he'd protect not only himself and Celina, but Shay as well as he thought was now something that he had finally told himself that he was taking responsibility for. It was a silent promise to her. One he wouldn't talk about, but would be conveyed through his actions.
"So," he softly spoke, "how's your brain holding out?" He smirked, and jested once more. It was something he did best, and he knew she expected it, if not loved it.

"It's gotten much better, thank you," she said feeling glad that he went on after his first of two comments. There were times she just couldn't find a why to fully acknowledge comments. Her mother told her to always say thank you-- but then again she also said that most men were rat-bastards. The latter comment was a bit hard to believe and follow, but by association it made the former somewhat hard to follow as well. Not when the compliment meant so much to her.
"I'm sure things would be have been easier if you were a rat-bastard," she said, rather startled with herself. However, it didn't seem absolutely grave, so she quelled her surprised expression. "You know, because.... I don't know." She shook her head and laughed. It was hard to cover that up while also being casual.
To think how settled she was before she met him. Before, she was sure she wasn't going to be able to worry about the opposite gender seeing as the encounter with the auror went bust once she left Hogwarts as an assistant. Everything else before had been much more temporary and fooling, and she often made the mistake of trying her hardest to impress them all. That never worked in the end, however. Something somehow got in the way, and she was left with doubting herself once more. During the lulls of romance, she became more active in strengthening herself and who she was so she wouldn't have to worry about being a chameleon later on. Yet perhaps she became lucky, for then she met Alfonz, and she found herself and her doubts being more assertive in what she did with him than anything else. At first she tried but soon enough the attempts turned out to be more about herself than she thought. Shay would have honestly denied that at first, but with Alfonz, it clicked. There was the development of the idea of who she was.

Still standing in one place, hands interlaced, Alfonz rubbed the back of a few fingers of his free hand across her forehead. "Well, that's good to hear. If you were in pain it wouldn't be as much fun to pick on you then," he smiled genuinely and snickered a bit. That was until she said something about a rat-bastard.
"Excuse me?" Alfonz retorted automatically, with little time to think about what was being said. What had she said? It would have been easier? What would have been easier? He thought back to what he had said leading up to this point. He had complimented her, trying to figure out why he liked her so much, and then she had thanked him, and then she called him told him it would have been easier if he was a rat-bastard. That couldn't have been a good thing, but she had said 'if'. So, did that mean he wasn't? And if in her opinion he wasn't, what in fact was he in her eyes, and what would have been easier?
He wasn't tense, nor was he really upset. Confused and dumbfounded was more correct. He had been called a lot of things in his life, but what the opposite of whatever a rat-bastard was, was probably not it. It almost sounded....nice? "What would have been easier?" he asked her, only to follow with a, "So, if I'm not a.....rat-bastard? Then what in your opinion would I be, Shay?" He never raised the volume of his voice, nor did it become more threatening, but the confusion he all of a sudden felt could be heard.
Alfonz figured that it wouldn't be something to bad. And as he caught himself worried over what would probably be nothing, his mind scolded himself. Does it really matter, Alfonz? If she didn't like you, it would be better for all of us, secretly he agreed with what his conscious told him. Alfonz thought to himself how maybe it would have been easier if she knew his real thoughts. Maybe he should have gotten sprayed at her party......but then again, he wouldn't have liked himself anymore if he had to work harder to regain something he would have lost. His mind was spinning in it's usual dilemmas and thoughts. A rat-bastard? Well then, what was he?

"Nevermind, nevermind!" She bit her lip but continued to finish the last of her ice cream. Now that she let herself say it, she was flip flopping in her feelings about it. Often her way of feeling things was over a broad spectrum and she didn't know how to handle it. For that matter, she was definitely embarassed now. It sounded rude now that she thought about it. At least that was one thing her mother told her not to do and she tried to obey it. "It's just that... you're not what I expected. Actually, I didn't expect anything. Only that...." She groaned a little and tossed the napkin in a public trash can. With her other hand now free, she could lean in on him and hold him by the upper portion of his arm. "... I don't know. You mean more to me than I thought."

If he was eating his ice cream still, he would have choked. Meant more to her? More than what? Obviously more than just friends or aquaintances...even he liked her more than that, even she meant more than that to him. But to say it out loud...
She was now leaning on him and he wrapped the arm she leaned on around her instinctively. Alfonz's question was never answered, but at the same time it was. He wasn't a rat-bastard, instead he was something she had never expected. A smirk crossed his face, "Only that? You must have expected something...possibly?" His question was followed by him raising her eyes to meet his with his hand from underneath her chin. He wanted to see into her brown eyes, into her soul to see what she was thinking. What she was really feeling.

Shay groaned. "Do you need to know?" she asked, but she let on a bit of a smile again. "Well, the only thing I can think was that you could be disagreeable at first but you just seem to surprise me over and over. I don't know how." She shook her head for she had a hard time believing that she had to explain now. And it was a horrible explanation, no less.
"Just so you know, I have a tendency to say really stupid things," she added, figuring that while he already knew that, she would give him a good head's up.

...you just seem to sruprise me over and over. I don't know how....
A likewise feeling? The attraction they both seemed to feel for one another, spurred from the same unknown source. The expression of surprise never crossed his facial expression, rather one of relief. It was something they were both unknowningly searching for, well, more known now that they had both in one way or another just expressed it. Alfonz laughed a bit and responded, "The feeling is mutual, I'm sure."
He shook his head. "I wouldn't say stupid. Useless maybe, but even what we think are useless, tend to find a use eventually." His statment rung even more true as he looked still into her eyes and smirked. If anyone would have asked him a while back if he would be standing on a street sidewalk with Shay Loire, the half blood photographer from the Daily Prophet, he would have not only laughed histerically, he probably would have hexed them. Only a few weeks...that's all it had taken. He was losing his mind. But at the moment, it was willingly.

It was mutual? Well, it should have been. With the way things started out, it might have been that they weren't good for each other because they had some sort of trait in common, but everything else seemed to balance out with the time they took out to get to know each other. It had all decided through one opportunity and she had taken it. If that were the case for everything else in her life, then she was waiting for a another risk to take, if only to know that the outcome is better than she expected.
"I suppose you just have to use what you've got," she commented, figuring just how that would work in with what she had said to him before. "In this case I think it's safe to go back to what I told you weeks before-- we can't judge a book by its cover." You can't expect a first impression to be permanent either, she added in her mind.

"So, it would seem," Alfonz smirked returning to his place by her side, and walking with her. His hand still with hers as he looked around his surroundings. Some book the two of them were, and together they were like a sequal. But their stories still remained a mystery to one another. The stories that were never told and always hidden. The ones of hopless romantics, and goal striving loons. Those that would only be found out, never told. Alfonz thought to himself many nights since their first meetings how she'd react if she found out certain things, but he figured she had done the same. It was only human nature to give as much of yourself as one figured the other could handle or take.
"What kind of story," he dared ask, "would you think two people like us would be involved with? Or picture rather? Since, you are a photographer. As I once said, a picture tells a thousand words. I figure that covers at least the beginnings of a story....don't you?"
It was the most random thing he thought he had ever said out loud in his life. But then again, it had it's own uses. When didn't what he say, have a use in one way or another?

Shay opened her mouth a little to begin any aimless wondering, but stopped herself instead to give it a real thought. As a photographer, hm... Shay closed her eyes and put their names together, their experiences together and molded it into words of a bold face and leisurely font. But no, she changed it to something more divine, more relevant to their story. That somehow transformed to a photograph, something of describing it without reading it so that she could paint it into their real life.
She smiled. "It has red hues and schemes. We've cleverly slipped in contrasting colors to our accessories and to the picture over all. I just see us as we are right now in the street but with those colors I told about. Yes, and our expressions, well... they're hesistant smiles." She shook her head and laughed. "Forgive me, I'm off in wonderland."

Painted right in front of him, as if he were looking right at it, a picture of the two of them. He could see the picture, but in his mind, the red was also mixed in with black and white. A black and white image with red mixed throughout the image, with two people in the street. Hands held? Maybe, but he too saw the smiles of hesitancy....almost as if neither one of them really understood the dangers or risks that would entail meeting with each other. "I see it as well. A perfect image," he said as he genuinely smiled at Shay. As serious as he was, however, it made him think...why would there be red in it? Bloodlines maybe? The relevance of it? The white strategically placed....purity? Mixed with the impurity of what black could represent....maybe.....yes, he worried. Even she saw it, whether or not she realized it or not didn't matter. She did see the same image...or close to it. (( Something like this --> Lookie Here! ))

(Holy. Crap. That's pretty spot on.)
"Perfect," she repeated and nodded slowly. This one little moment was perfect. Even when it wasn't, it was to her. Shay was done with pristine personalities, tidy futures, and made up conversations. Things could flow from their minds and they could tease it gently but accept it in the end.
The image they composed together stuck in her mind and she felt absolutely happy. Of course she was during the date (save the very beginning), but this was a very happy moment. It was when she could breathe in the November air and her eyes could naturally widen. And the momentary giggles. That's what she happened to do now. Giggle just a bit, but didn't let it on. She wanted to be selfish and keep it to herself.

(( I try. )) Calm. Almost to calm, but he accepted it for what it was. Alfonz liked as in the streets, no one's eyes were on him and he felt as if he were not living up to another's expectations, but his own. Finally. Now, if he could just figure out what he expected of himself, of the situation, and everything he wanted for himself and the people he truely cared about. Hope for a better future, a future for them that he could bring them. He could, and he decided for himself finally, as he held in his hand someone he could see not only as a weakness, but finally as a deciding factor. The world of tomorrow would come, and he would help it do so the correct way. Arriving at Wendelring, Alfonz stopped and just looked up at the building and then back at Shay. The date had been rather painless, and as it was nearing it's end, Alfonz found himself almost wanting to linger to delay the end. "Well, back to where we stand. You know," he smirked and looked at Shay mischeviously. "If you leaned against me really close...it'd be like the first night I took you back to your apartment." A laughed escaped him as he tightened his grasp around her hand just slightly.

Shay laughed along with him and covered her face with her free hand in shame. It was such an astonishing way to meet him. That night had ended with her practically being carried by him and with the same skies above twirling just a bit more than usual. She just wished she could grab hold of her alcohol easier. "Ooh, how embarassing," she reminisced, "That's the last time I'm accepting drinks from you."
Her shame didn't end for too long as her grin of humiliation under her hand was transformed to a smile. "I'm sure this is the right time to make a new memory out of this time."
