"Fene, te fasz!" Alhana swore in her native tongue. Drew wouldn't understand what that meant, but his guess might be just as well. What a bloody petty argument to bring up at a time where she had expected a more serious response from him. He didn't really just bring up the ruddy pool incident?
"Merlin forbid I want to throw you into a pool just once as retaliation! Don't tell me you're basing your argument on that one time?" Alhana replied, getting more and more irritated as the sarcasm dripped from his mouth like water.

"Oh, yeah. Because it's just been that once," Drew answered. If anything, the once part came from it being one of the few times he could remember her actually letting him have his way instead of insisting on hers. And boy, did he have to fight for that one, didn't he?
He didn't even mind giving into her so much. Most of the time it didn't even bother him. But now, it was all very annoying. Her response to the whole thing told him she didn't even recognize how much he gave into her. It wasn't appreciated. It had been expected.

"Fine then, let me have it. Tell me all the other times I've been a spoiled twit, hmm?" Alhana prompted him, knowing full well she'd be regretting asking but didn't at all care for the present moment. This spat wasn't going to end well and she knew she'd have to call Apa out early to come get her and he wouldn't be too keen on being pulled from his business so unexpectedly.

"What does it even matter, huh?" Drew asked back. It wasn't like he had kept a score book of all the times he had let her have his way. It really hadn't mattered to him at all because he wanted to do it. The pool stood out because he hadn't wanted to and she had thrown a little fit.
"It doesn't matter, Alhana. It doesn't and I'll tell you why. Because I wanted to give in to you. It made me happy to make you happy," he told her. "It just pissed me off to realize the feeling wasn't mutual."

Just because she had never verbally acknowledged all the times that he had let her have her way with things didn't mean that she hadn't appreciated it. It wasn't her thing to do express her emotions verbally. But maybe now was a good time to realize that she should have.
"The feeling is mutual," Alhana mumbled, finally breaking a stare she'd been keeping that seemed to have lasted hours. She nudge a rock with her toe and frowned. "Why'd you stay with me if I wasn't there for you when you needed me most?" she kept her eyes on the cement,

Drew fell silent, looking at his feet. He wasn't sure of the answer to that. He had given everything he had to give and had never asked for anything back because that was what love was. Only now, it didn't feel right. Everytime he had started doubting it all, he'd convince himself that it was worth it because he loved her. But was it really worth it? Was it enough that one person had such strong feelings if the other one didn't feel it as much? He wasn't sure anymore.

Drew's silence was a black shadow on Alhana's thoughts already darkened thoughts. She'd been brooding over the status of their romantic relationship for more than she cared to admit.
She took up the opportunity and forced herself to speak, his silence concreting her resolve...at least for the moment. You're going to regret this later. Big mistake, Alhana taunted the annoying voice in the back of her mind. No I won't, shut-up! she argued with herself. Her mind told her to go through with it. Her heart simply laughed at her.
She cleared her voice to get him to meet her gaze before she spoke. "You deserve someone better than me," she told him in a quiet voice, feeling very much like the dirt beneath her feet for what she seemed to have put him through, however unintentional.

Drew barely met her gaze when she spoke and didn't even attempt to answer. Of course, that wasn't what he had meant to say and of course he didn't believe there actually was anyone better for him. He had just wanted to stand his ground, voice some concerns, get some things out on the table so they could move past them. He didn't even want to think about being with anyone else.
"I love you, Alhana... so much," he said, barely above a whisper and looking back down at his knees. "That hasn't changed. You know that, right?"

Not yet it hasn't changed. Alhana didn't want to believe it would, but she knew that time would come one day in the future. He'd meet some pretty girl and forget all about his fiery-tempered dragon in a heartbeat.
"I know that...but you," she paused scrambling for some words that would make sense when they left her lips. "If you couldn't even count on me to be around like I'm sure Ari and Hiro were, then how can that still be true? How could you still want to be by my side? I love you too. I'm sure more than I've ever said out loud... You should find someone better," Alhana said miserably, unable to look away from the boy she had adored for so many years. She felt like she had failed him somehow.

"No, that's not what I meant!" Drew said hurriedly. "I was frustrated... and yeah, I still am a little, but we work it out. That's what we do, right?" he told her. He knew they had a lot to figure out, but hey were young and had all the time they needed. He rushed quickly to be closer to her, feeling he had made a terrible mistake getting so angry. "There is no one better. I want to be with you."

Alhana swallowed. He was making her have second thoughts, but she forcefully pushed them away when he came to her side. She realized she had been a horrible friend and girlfriend, and that prompted her to continue even though it was going to hurt them both.
"I'm sure we can work it out. But maybe we need a break? I want to be with you too, but I want you to find someone else. Someone that will make you happier and who will be there for you. I apparently haven't done that, so find someone else," Alhana forced out, fiddling with her hands. She never knew what to do with idle hands and absentmindedly stroked the promise ring on her finger.
"You deserve someone better than me," she mumbled.

No, that really hadn't been what he meant. "No, don't say that," he told her, looking over at her with distress in his eyes. "No one's better than you. No one will make me happier and you know it."
He paused a moment and gave a long sigh. "I think we just need a little time to figure stuff out," he said. It wasn't breaking up. It was just a re-evaluation. That's all.

When he found someone else to keep his eyes busy, he wouldn't be so concrete on his answers then. Alhana didn't voice this because ti would just continue the back and forth game. She met his gaze when he understood what she was trying to get across to him.
"Igen. That's all. We just need..a break. Just for a while," she nodded her head. "I'm sorry for starting a fight," Alhana sighed. "I was more frustrated with myself than you, I think."
