"Swimming?" Arianna suggested as she tossed a little extra cheese on the omelet. Who cared if it was hers or not? Omelets always needed more cheese. "You couldn't possibly think I'd want to do anything else on a day like this? Except maybe some beach volleyball.."
So she wasn't very good at the game. That didn't mean she didn't like playing.

"I hope you're talking the beach," Drew answered, making a face as he folded over the omlet and slid it onto her plate. "Cause the pool is great, but the cholrine is really starting to bug me." It had been, what? Three days since they had gone to the beach? Dang, it was a long time.

"And making your own waves takes too much energy," Arianna complained. It worked in small kiddie pools, but ones deep enough to have a diving board caused a bit of a problem. Plus, it was a bit difficult to swim while keeping the waves going with your wand.
"So...You really think you can handle having me as your captain?" the girl questioned after a pause in which she sprinkled some salt and pepper onto her omelet before reaching for more eggs to make Drew's. She hoped four eggs was enough for him.

Drew laughed. "Yeah, I think I can handle it," he assured her, grabbing a couple of glasses from the cupboard and pouring the orange juice. "hey, you know what we never did? Never went to ice cream to celebrate my license. We should do that and we can celebrate your badge too, huh?"

"Yeah, we need to do that," Arianna agreed. They had decided on that...how long ago? Arianna was a little surprised Drew had remembered. She probably would have forgotten had he not said anything.
"Too bad Allegra won't be with us this time," a slight frown crossed Arianna's face. The only time she didn't see either of the Thorntons was when she was at home and it was odd to be at their home without one half of the two siblings around.

"You promised your grandmother you'd be up there for tea today," Dolores Thornton said as she came into the kitchen, still dressed in her pajamas. She loved having kids who didn't need her to wake up. She gave both Drew and Ari a kiss good morning on the forehead before starting the coffe pot and looking at the mess the two teenagers had made. "One of those for me?" she asked hopefully, taking a seat on a barstool.
Drew slouched and groaned at his mother's reminder. It wasn't that he disliked his grandmother, but he really didn't want to sit through one of her teas, especially if it cut into beach time.
"Drew, you promised. She hasn't seen you in weeks!" his mother admonished.
"Wait... this can still work..." Drew said, pretty much ignoring his mother. "If we drive up, we can stop in Ventura, get in a couple of hours of surfing, hit the Cold Stone's up there and still make it to Grandmother's by three!" he insisted. Okay, the surf at Zuma was better, but he could sacrifice if he could get permission to drive up the coast.
Especially if...
"Think dad will let me take his Mustang?" Drw asked hopefully. Mark Thornton had gotten the new convertible a few months back but hadn't had a chance to magically enhance it yet. Broken in enough, but not so totally upgraded to make it off limits. Drew had been dying to get behind the wheel since he had gotten home.

"Good Morning!" Arianna grinned when Mrs Thornton entered the room. She had finished Drew's omelet and started another just for Mom. "Special order? Anything you do or do not want in your omelet?"
As she continued cooking, Arianna listened in on the conversation with her nose scrunched slightly. Tea wasn't too bad. She much preferred it over coffee. But Grandma always did things the traditional English way. It wasn't a simple matter of meeting and talking over a sip. Arianna had even had to learn how to do it right, which seemed a bit unnecessary to the girl.
"Oh, yes! Can we take it?" the girl turned, her expression bright and wide eyed. She had seen the Mustang in the garage and thought it was the most beautiful specimen of a motor vehicle she had ever seen. Just looking at it gave her chills and she could tell just by looking at it that it had quite a bit of power under the hood. Oh, man, would she be in heaven if she and Drew could take it for a drive.

("A member of the Royal Family really should do it properly, my dear," Grandmother had admonished and while they knew it was said with love, it still was a pain in the neck to be nagged. Drew told Ari how lucky she was having only been dealing with Grandmother for a few years. He had been told to stop clinking his china HIS WHOLE FRIGGIN LIFE.)
As Ari added in her plea Drew did an anticipatory happy dance, hoping his mom would say yes. She gave the next best answer.
"It's your father's car. You'll have to ask him," she said with a smirk and she reached over to add more cheese to the omlet. You could never have enough cheese.
Drew upped his dancing and ran to the fireplace, tossed a bit of floo powder inside and stuck his head in. It was nice that, being so high up in his office, Mark Thornton had a direct line.
"Dad..." Drew waited, head in his father's office, butt in his mother's kitchen, until he got his father's attention. "Ari and I are going to Grandmother's and we wanted to know if we can take the car... the Mustang... Aw!... Yeah... Yeah... Uh huh... No... We were going to take the boards... Okay... I promise... Yeah?... WOO HOO!" Drew cried the last bit as he came out of the fireplace, banging his head and holding up his dad's keys.

Drew's exclamation got Arianna's attention. Not that he really needed it. She had been paying more attention to his backside, trying to listen in on the conversation, than she had on the eggs in the pan. Seeing that they were, in fact, going in the Mustang, she dropped the spatula into the pan and did her own little happy dance before returning to the cooking.
"Um....you like utensils in your breakfast, don't you?" she asked Mrs. Thornton with a sheepish grin as she carefully pulled the cheese-covered handle of the spatula out of the pan.

Drew's mother just smirked back and picked the spatula out of what was going to be her breakfast. "I'll clean this up. You get out of here before I change my mind?" she finally said as she threw the cheesy spatula in the sink. The eggs were still good and she cold still have a decent breakfast.
Drew gave another WOOHOO! forgetting the rest of his breakfast. It wasn't a good idea to surf on a full stomach anyway. "You get your stuff and I'll throw the boards in the back of the car," Drew told Ari.
"Tea..." his mother reminded as she pulled a fork and a plate out of the drawers.
"Okay!" Drew answered a little impatiently. "I'll grab my stuff and then put the baords in the back of the car," he said. His grandmother would kill him if he expected to have tea in his shorts and tennis shoes.

As excited as Arianna was about going, she wasn't about to let her omelet go to waste. Not all of it, anyway. She gobbled down about half of it, wishing she had time to finish the rest since it tasted so good, finished off her orange juice, the ran upstairs to grab her stuff. Fortunately they'd had enough time the day before to do some shopping and she now had two new swimsuits waiting to be used. She grabbed the sporty one-piece and shoved it into a bag with everything else she would need for the trip. Hurrying back downstairs, she shoveled down a few more bites, gave Mrs. Thornton a kiss on the cheek, then hurried out to the car, practically bouncing the whole way.

Shoes, slacks, shirt, socks, and even a tie just in case got shoved in a small duffle while his towel and surfing things got thrown into his backpack. He sprinted downstairs and kissed his mother goodbye before jumping into the Mustang and backing it out of the garage slowly. He put the top down before going back into the garage and pulling the boards down, placing them in the back seat and strapping them in like small children.
He got behind the wheel and just relished the moment for a while before turning to Ari. "Ready?" he asked, a wide grin on his face.

"Just one sec," Arianna dug through her bag and pulled out a hair elastic, which she used to pull back her hair before pulling out a baseball cap and pulling it low on her head. Without a roof on the car she might want something to keep her hair from whipping her in the face (something she'd found unpleasant while playing quidditch).
"Okay, I'm ready!" she let out a whoop of excitement and threw her hand forward, finger pointing into the distance. "Onward, ho!"

Drew popped a CD into the player and put on his sunglasse, legally needed the corrective lenses to drive, but finding the shades so much cooler looking than his regular glasses. He threw an arm over Ari's seat and looked over his shoulder to back up, only to realize that the boards were in the way of his view. Bummer. He was certain that pose had looked cool too.
Didn't matter. He managed to back the car into the street, put it in gear adn coast down to the stop sign where he suddenly broke out into the mother of all happy dances as the song on the stereo blasted. That important business done, he turned to Ari and grinned. "Ready?"

"Mmhmm," Arianna matched Drew's grin as she nodded. It was really exciting to be able to go for a drive without Drew's parents coming with them and so cool that Drew was driving. Arianna almost wished she could drive, too, but wondered how much good it would do. She'd be apparating or driving everywhere once she was out of school.
"I'm sooo going to make a painting of us in this car," she commenting, making one last glance back at the house as it shrank in the distance.
