One more quick happy dance move before leaving the stop sign and Drew put the car into gear as he made his way to the highway.
From his house it was a matter of moments before they were on PCH heading north along the shore line. Drew had his right hand at a lazy 12 o'clock and his left elbow resting on the open window. Sun, sky, sea.... Hot car, hot girl... Okay, the girl was just Ari, but he knew she counted still. They looked good.
"Yeah... a picture. That would be so cool," he said, leaning back and enjoying the ride.
I LOVE LA
Hate New York City It's cold and it's damp And all the people dressed like monkeys Let's leave Chicago to the Eskimos That town's a little (bit) too rugged For you and me, you bad girl
Rollin' down the Imperial Highway With a big nasty redhead at my side Santa Ana wind blowin' hot from the north And we was born to ride
Roll down the window, put down the top Crank up the Beach Boys, baby Don't let the music stop We're gonna ride it till we just can't ride it no more
From the South Bay to the Valley From the West Side to the East Side Everybody's very happy 'Cause the sun is shining all the time Looks like another perfect day I love L.A. (We love it) I love L.A. (We love it)
Look at that mountain Look at those trees Look at that bum over there, man He's down on his knees Look at these women There ain't nothin' like em nowhere
Century Boulevard (We love it) Victory Boulevard (We love it) Santa Monica Boulevard (We love it) Sixth Street (We love it, we love it)
I love L.A. (We Love It) I Love L.A. (We Love It) I Love L.A. (We Love It)

"I LOVE L.A! I LOVE L.A.!" Arianna sang along as they made their way, throwing her hands up in the air. A little further on and she was getting a bit antsy, so she tossed her hat under the seat and dared to unbuckle herself and stand up, resting one hand on top of the windshield as her other hand pulled her hair out of it's ponytail. She'd seen girls do this in the movie and just couldn't resist. She even smiled and waved at the pretty boys driving by.
"I LOVE L.A.!" Arianna gave one last shout as the song ended and tossed her arms up into the air before falling back into her seat. "Ah, this is so great!" she exclaimed, honestly thinking this could be the highlight of her summer.

Drew was surprised, but laughed when Ari stood up and sang. "You SO can't do that!" he told her, shaking his head when she finally sat down. If a cop had seen them, that would have been the end of their day.
Forget the cops. If his parents found out...
"So how far up did you want to go before we stop?" Drew asked, mostly thinking about lunch. He had just skipped breakfast after all.

"Anywhere's fine by me," Arianna replied, quickly buckling herself up as a cop passed by. Good thing he hadn't seen her just moments before.... Arianna definitely didn't need to get Drew in trouble. She hadn't seen him so happy in a long while and had actually felt elated when Drew had told her about his breakup with Alhana. She didn't want to admit it of course, but she didn't think Drew hadn't been able to notice. She had been surprised, though, that he hadn't been a total mess over it. There wasn't even need for a night of ice cream and movies involving lots of car chases and explosions.

"I was thinking we could be in Carpenteria in about an hour," Drew answered, glancing over at her. The small beach town wasw a bit farther north than he had orginally planned to stop, but the surfing was better and they had some pretty decent restaraunts there. They could get a couple of hours of surfing in, have lunch and still make it to Grandmother's with time to shower and change.

"That works," Arianna answered with a nod. An hour's drive would be over in no time. Before she'd even have time to think about it, they'd be racing into the ocean with the boards and having a good time.
Laying her chair back half-way down, Arianna slipped her shoes off and propped her feet up on the dash. Man, she couldn't believe how much more fun this ride seemed in this car, and with just the two of them. They'd been this way many times before, but it definitely hadn't ever been this exciting.

This was Reina's chance. All she had to do was hit that car. The car with Ari and Drew. Reina took a deep breath. There were a few thigns making her nervous. Reina actually liked Drew. He was one of the cool ravens that weren't a pain in the butt and if Reina thought about it ... yeah she hated Ari. Reina would love to take this hunk of metal and hurt Ari. That eaves dropping, always right, can't-do-no-wrong, eagle.
Reina gunned the engine and the other reason why she was nervous came crashing upon her. She never driven a car. 'It's not that hard,' they said. 'Just turn the car in their direction and go,' they said. Exasperated they finally just told her to hex, but Reina never driven and it can't be that hard; could it?
Reina took a deep breath and stepped on the gas... too hard! Reina was bolting towards a tree. Reina jerked the wheel to the left, too hard, to the right, too hard. Reina opened her mouth and screamed. It would be so ironic if she died in a muggle contraption. Scared out of her wits Reina apparated out of the car and luckily a distance not too far away. Reina watched as the car as if on its own accord straightened itself enough to slam straight into the car Drew and Ari were in.
Reina saw it in slow motion. Where every muggle drive knew if you were going to be in a car accident try to get hit on the side for last impact. This car hit them straight on. The metal squashed inside itself and even seemed to squash itselt inside the car Ari and Drew were in. Reina looked around as people started to look out their windows and come out of their houses. Reina quickly ran between two houses and apparated to the designated spot.

On and on they drove. Singing to the music, chatting, doing anything one would expect to pass the time on a road trip. With the sun shining and the wind blowing through their hair, it seemed all was well. Who knew it could go so wrong so quickly?
They were just passing through a small town, Arianna chatting about how excited she was about Che and one of the girls back home getting close (she didn't know if Drew found it interesting, but it had somehow come up and she couldn't resist gabbing about it). She said she was really happy for them, and she sincerely meant it.
"I really think they're going...." Arianna couldn't have told you where the car had come from. Since she wasn't driving, she wasn't focused on the road or even the side roads. Her eyes had wandered from the road in front of them over to Drew, then beyond where the ocean lay. She had felt the impact before even registering anything was wrong.
The car had come at them from the east, smacking right into Arianna's side. She heard the crunching sound and felt her upper body being thrown toward Drew's side, pain shooting through her back as her bottom half remained anchored in place by the seat belt. When everything was over, she lay on her side, feeling dazed and confuse, and vaguely wondering which hurt worse: her leg, her back, or her arm. More concerned, though, was she about the boy next to her.
"Drew..." she muttered, trying to lift her head to see if he was okay.

Drew pretended to be interested in the Che story and asked the right questions and murmured the right sounds to prove he was actually listening. It was one of those moments that he glanced over at his passenger and saw the car heading towards them, running through the stop sign at top speed. Drew's first thought was the guy must have been trying to drive right into the Pacific, but unfortunately the Mustang was in his way. He tried to swerve but felt the impact and tried to control the spin, but it was too much. He slammed against the driver's door and heard his shoulder crunch as the windsheild gave way and peppered him with crushed glass.
And then it was quiet. From far awy he could hear voices, cars screeching, and feet running. "Ari?" he groaned, opening his eyes and looking towards her.

The pain that had coursed through her body all suddenly went away as quickly as it had come. Arianna's body was going into survival mode, sending out adrenaline and and other chemicals into her bloodstream that made her numb to the pain. All she felt now was a sickness in her stomach and something wet dripping down her forehead and also down her right arm, which dangled over the seat at a funny angle. She fought to stay awake, barely aware of the voices around them and what she thought was the distant sound of a siren.
"Drew..." she repeated after hearing him say her name. Bits of glass moved as she felt around with her left arm for the boy. She felt a leg and tried again to lift her head, but it wouldn't move. Arianna's eyes then closed and she fell into something like sleep. She was aware of movement and voices around her, but could not reply, couldn't move, couldn't cry out. Oh, God, she prayed, let Drew be in better shape than I am. Please let him be okay.

The distant sounds grew and grew as the same cacophony repeated itself. The sirens grew heavy in the air as it alerted of danger and caution and-- yes-- an accident that would be another page in California's history of violence and accidents.
Two police cars came in sight and stopped just a few yards from the scene. One man, burly and serious as death came out and knocked briskly on the window of the other squad car. The man in the car looked up from his radio at the big man and nodded at him. "Got that? Good," he ended his report and came out of the car. She, a younger black woman, took to opening her door and pointing down the scene where the car was practically mangled. "How many in there, Teegs?"
The big man stepped closer and squinted, unsure of what he was seeing. He saw the car that was hit, but the offending car had no driver. "I'm registering just one, Ely."
Immediately the two came to the side of the driver. "Young man," Teegs said as he carefully tried to open the door. "You're going to be alright. Just stay conscious."
Ely looked around, holding her hand towards her gun as she approached the empty car. It took a simple naked eye search to see there was not a living soul in the car. It brought a chill to her, but she expected it. Who would want to be involved in a mess like this? She would have to find out through the DMV later on.
Just as Ely was shouting at Teegs the status of the empty car, two ambulances came rushing through, closer to the accident this time and more rushed. Two paramedics from one car came out of the passenger and driver of the ambulance and opened the back. "Great, young kid," one of the muttered, and was thankful that it wasn't a situation that needed the Jaw of Life. He took out the stretcher and quickly and efficiently hoisted the boy on it to take into the back. This would take practically no time, for the boy was safely inside the ambulance truck and almost immediately taken to the nearest hospital.
Teegs and Ely watched this as they began the report. "Damnit... another kid. Look, we'll get to the Center and ask him if he saw anybody in that car. Maybe test him for substances."
Ely sighed. "Yeah," she shook her head. "Sun was too much, seems."
They began to tape up the scene and shooing nosy neighbors away when another ambulance came in not too long after the first one. "What--?"
A woman, looking to be in her late twenties, tied up her flowing hair. She flashed a smile to the two police officers and to the handful of people. It was hard to think about it, but she took out a stick of some sort, and waved it at them. "Nothing to see, folks!" She said in what seemed to a strained southern accent. The four people stared at her, and softened their expressions to understanding. One of them seemed to mutter something about nothing much happening these days. They all turned back to their houses, a bit trance like.
Teegs and Ely were ready to approach her when she pointed her wand and said the last of her whispered words. "Continue your report, officers," she crowed, and the power of persuasion worked. They continued on with their procedure.
Sienna took out the stretcher from the back of the ambulance and jimmied the car door open. "There, there, now..." she said to the girl that no one noticed. She carried the girl to the stretcher, not worried by the blood or the injury she was causing her. She laid her on the stretcher and strapped her down. "Here's a word of advice: Be careful anytime you decide to run down a street. Or... walk down an alley." It would have been more chilling if she held eye contact. But alas, it sounded mundane and part of a procedure as she hooked her into an IV. Sienna looked around, waiting for Reina. Poor lass, she would have to drive more of these disturbing metal monsters.
But before she put her into the car, she said to the girl, "We've got a friend waiting for you." She smiled reassuringly, and slipped into the back before going in but on the opposite side of the guest that was to make a cameo.

Everything was a total fog. Arianna heard the sirens approaching and then the sound of a car door opening. Then voices. They were taking Drew away. Arianna's eyes fluttered open as she tried to figure out what was going on. Nothing made sense. She couldn't understand a word anyone was saying and she couldn't respond.
Next thing she knew, her own door was popped open and she was pulled from the wreckage none too gently. Arianna let out a cry as pain even worse than before shot through her body and she was placed on one of those bed things they have in ambulances. She gazed up at the paramedic through half-open eyes as her arm was pierced with the needle, barely able to register blonde hair through the blood on her eyelashes. The woman had said something; a question maybe? Arianna didn't know and couldn't answer. The woman's next statement made even less sense.
We have a friend waiting for you? Arianna could think only of Drew. He had been right beside her. He was okay, right? He'd be okay? Arianna wanted to ask, but nothing escaped her lips.

People started milling around and Drew saw flashing lights and uniforms hovering over him. "Check on Ari! I'm okay," he insisted, though he didn't feel very okay. His head hurt, his side hurt, his legs hurt, and he couldnt' see Ari at all. He didn't even have time to argue the subtance abuse charges before they got him in the back of the ambulance. Honestly, he did't think he was all that bad off.
"Mom... call my mom..." he murmured, knowing they'd take him to the nearest Muggle hospital. At least they knew him there.

"Get some fluids in him," said one of the paramedics as they prepped him for the long journey. They generally went about doing all of this without listening to him until they heard him make a few mumbles.
"We'll get to her as soon as we get to the hospital. What's your name, son?" The male paramedic wasn't much too older than Drew, but he seemed experienced and almost immune to the hazy atmosphere of car crashes.
--
Sienna slipped the stretcher and restrained it to the car to prevent slips. For someone who had lived the straight pureblood, she knew her Muggle healers. Then again, she had been practicing and learning about their medicine, however primitive and inferior she thought it to be.
Sienna looked to a boy of 17 in the corner, his wand straight as an arrow but his face didn't quite match it. With a spell of this strength, it tired him and it brought him great fear, and it was hard for him to not look worried. As Sienna promptly inserted an I.V. in Arianna's arm, she put in the potion that was mixed in with the painkiller. Cursing herself for not being able to find veritaserum especially with Reynolds gone, she had to settle for a homegrown recipe, a potion that would lower the inhibitions of one significantly.
She waited a minute or two for the potion to travel through the girl's veins, then looked at the boy. "Go ahead, Michael."
Mike Jones fell into full alert of her prod, and worked his Imperius on the girl who had been sitting quietly next to Arianna's stretcher at first, but was now under control and ready for her own "mission".

Krissy had appearated to an area and clibmed aboard an anbulance. The whole situation was kind of a blur to her. She wasn't sure why she was here or how she was here. But she had watched Ari been brought into the ambulance. Krissy wanted ot stand up and run to her friend and ask her what happened. But she didn't. She sat there. Silently. Not making a single movement. Krissy watched as the woman injected Ari with something via an IV. Had Krissy been in the right mind she probably would have realised this was bad. But Krissy wasn't exactely in the right mind, or more, she wasn't the only one in her mind. there were commands in her brain telling her what to do and every time it told her to do something, thats what she did. She didn't even really have much of a chance to think about what was going on. She just was following the commands.
It was when the lady said 'go ahead Michael' that another one of those commands came through. Krissy stood up and walked over to the stretcher. "Ari" she said looking at her friend. the voice in her head was talking again. Ask her the question. Now. Krissy looked at Ari for a moment. That voice in her head was very stern and kept telling her what to do.
(I'm not sure what questions to ask, so if someone could tell me I'll ask them in my next post)
