This was a bit awkward...or at least it felt awkward to Keag. Thus the nervous glancing around she had started doing. "So...where are we headed?" she asked. How had she gotten herself here? She had no idea what was really going on, or what she really thought about it, but for some reason it seemed kind of familiar at the same time as not at all familiar. If she kept thinking like that, she was gonna confuse herself.

" Headed? " Dean said as he looked around, pondering the same thing. " That way? " He suggested with a slight nod. He then stopped. " Keag, I kinda wanna know something... " He said, then trailed off. He didn't know if she wanted this. Afterall, he didn't know her too well yet. His eyes met hers and he smiled slightly, his hand still entwined with hers. As far as asking someone out, this had been Dean's wierdest experience yet.

"OK," Keag started to reply before Dean stopped suddenly. The abrupt nature of the halt startled her, and her hand tugged away from his slightly. "Huh? What?" A slightly concerned look was on her face as she looked at him, her eyes questioning. She was extremely flustered. "What is it?" She suddenly felt something heavy in her stomach. What could he want to know?

" I just... " Dean stopped and turned his head slightly to the right, thinking. " What's up with you? " He didn't say it coldy or accusingly but he was curious. " Do you like me? I don't really know. " Dean told her, being very straightforward. He turned back and faced her. " I like you. " He finally said to her, his eyes still on hers as he said this.

Keagan looked up at him with wide eyes. She supposed that some part of her had known something like that was coming. Perhaps it was that rock in her stomach; sounded about right. She tore her eyes away from his and fidgeted with her fingers as she noticed how intensely he was looking at her. "Y-You've only known me an hour, tops. How do you know?" Perhaps that was what she was feeling. Could it be that this was attraction? It hadn't been like this with Dan. Darn him; why did he have to jump into her thoughts like that. Keag knew she hadn't answered Dean's questions, but it was so hard...

Dean was, in fact, looking at her very intensely. He kind of needed to know. " You're just... just... " He couldn't exactly put it into words but something... She was kind of, what was it? Distant perhaps. No... She seemed a little skittish. Now Dean's body was facing hers, he stood still as he thought all of this over. He began to wonder what had happened to Keagan. He couldn't really venture a guess. He then said softly, " What happened? "

'I'm just what?' she asked herself silently. Keagan couldn't begin to imagine what the boy thought was going on with her. She looked up at him as he turned to face her, then glanced away again. His next question was what really got to her. She wasn't a liar, and it was only fair of her to be as straight forward with him as he was being with her "I...I...," she tried to start, but then stopped to swallow the lump that had started to form in her throat. She found she couldn't say much at the moment as she was struck by the part that hurt her the most.
"A boy," she finally managed to say.

Many things were going through Dean's head right now, one of them was that this was an awkward situation. But then there was that voice in the back of his head that he should wait for her if he had to... This thought stuck out among the others as Keag replied ' a boy '. Dean only nodded. Now he understood. Well, sort of. He didn't exactly know details but he guessed some guy had messed with her or something... Dean felt a little angry.

"He promised he'd never leave me...," she answered, sniffling a little bit. She didn't intend to sob. She'd gotten all of that out of her system months ago when he did, in fact, leave. "Silly me, I believed him. It...it hurt...a lot." It kind of felt like she was stating the obvious at this point. Keag sighed as she pulled her left arm tight against her figure. She would've brought both in to hug to herself, but it seemed her right hand was still clasped in Dean's left.

Dean nodded slightly... When Keag said it hurt Dean felt sympathetic to her. Dean wasn't quite sure what to do as he watched her pull her left arm towards herself. He didn't know whether or not to do what he wanted and hug or to just let her be. His decision, though was still not apparent when he said, " It's ok... Well it's not but... " He drifted off slightly as he moved a little closer to Keag. He didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable or anything.

Keagan sniffed again and a tear rolled down her cheek. The thing that had always been her biggest social downfall, her inability to trust, had left when she placed her heart in Dan's hands. After he had left school for the second and final time, it had come back with new venom. She didn't know exactly where he went, or even why he went. The thing that bugged her the most was that he came back and then disappeared again. He hadn't even said goodbye. How would she ever be able to trust someone in that way again?

Dean stood there, feeling completely out of place with this girl. But he wanted to stay. This was somethign new for him. Usually when girls got very emotional he lit up out of there. But now he wanted to stay and help her. He looked to her face and saw a lone tear rolling down her cheek. Dean dropped the soccer ball and with his right hand wiped the tear away. He smiled at her, his face now inches away from hers, despite the height difference. He wanted to cheer her up. Then, Dean said, " We can wait. " With a slight nod.

Keag jumped a little when Dean's hand wiped her tear away, but she calmed herself by gazing at him. Why was he still here, anyway? They'd only known each other for less than a day and she was already being emotional. You'd think a guy would shy away from something like that. Or run for the hills. But not this guy. She gazed at him with what must've been wide puppy dog eyes and smiled the slightest bit. She nodded back, though she still wondered if he had really expected something to come from there first meeting.

Take it slow... Really slow... Dean thought to himself. And even though he didn't think it sounded right, he added, ' Friends first... right? It sort of made sense to him. His thoughts were sort of jumbled as he looked back to Keag's face. She did have the puppy fog eyes going for her right now, but he was positive it wasn't the wanted effect. " Ok, " He finally said when she nodded.
Dean thought they should keep talking... about something, anything. He just didn't exactly want to get to the ' are-we-or-aren't-we ' part of the program... What made sense to him was to wait... Be friends and all but wait until... She was completely ok.

Keagan smiled again, just a small one. "Thank you," she said quietly, glad that he understood. Amazingly, it had taken that long for BK to meander up to the pair. Keag had a suspicion that if he had approached sooner, the cat wouldn't have been too happy to see Keag in tears. She also now had suspicions as to what the cat had sensed earlier. His protectiveness was making more and more sense to her by the moment.
