"Well, this is downright wonderful," Felicity said aloud looking around to see anyone had caught her beautiful performance, it didn't look like it, though she couldn't really see much beyond the stairs railings. This particular blond Gryffindor had been tromping around outside all morning on the search for the darn grey squirrel as she knew it would be out and about gathering the last bits and pieces for its winter abode. Having no such luck in finding the furry fiend, she gave up after a couple of hours and decided she should probably get some of the piling homework done for classes.
After having grabbed the materials she would need from her common room, she headed down the stairs to go to the library where it was bound to be quieter than the headquarters had been lately; for some reason or other there had been quite a raucous going about there. However, upon arriving at the library, she realized how crowded it was, why was it the day she decided to use its resources it seemed every other student had decided to do the same?
Turning around and marching back up the stairs determined to find the empty classroom she'd used on the fourth floor many times to practice her wandwork still empty, she didn't pay much attention to which stairs she picked over. Indeed, the blond stepped on a non-existent stair, her leg falling through to well-above her knee.
It was time to gripe and groan while she figured out a way to pull herself out.

Derek hadn't had much luck himself in his own attempts in locating a place that wasn't overly crowded with students who were most likely trying to cram in last minute assignments. It was a rare occurance when anyone did find Derek cramming like mad at the last minute before a test. If anything he was usually found somewhere outside when everyone else seemed to be running around mad. So you could have understood his surpised when he'd ran into so many people. Usually it was just him and a few ravenclaw's in the library preferring to get their work done the day they'd received it.
His cousin had made fun at him in the beginning saying he belonged more to ravenclaw then to gryffindor but when all was said and done he actually had more in common with the qualities his house held. Having decided to try to find a quieter place than the library he'd left only taking with himself the book he'd need and some parchment conviently placed inside the book, and his quill and ink resting within one of his pockets.
Derek's eyebrows rose slightly as he began to make his way down just another stair their never seemed to be enough of them in the castle when he spotted what seemed to be most of the girl from his house. Only thing missing that he could tell was her leg, upon that realization he couldn't help but smiling though he tried his best to conceal it. "Could you use a hand?" he asked amusement in his eyes as he extended his hand to the girl.

And there it was, someone had spotted her. Perhaps he hadn't caught her magnificent fall-through though. It'd been quite a show to anyone who hadn't had to pay to see it; she'd been minding her own business, lost in thoughts, when suddenly she found herself falling, papers thrown into the air and landing strewn about her though not far from each other, and she was there in the stairs. Yes in the stairs, not on, but in.
"A hand might be helpful," she grinned up at the boy a bit sheepishly. "But I think a leg would be more useful. You see, I happened to lose one on the way up here and I've been waiting for a victim to come through to offer assistance," she teased gently while grabbing his hand before he could take back his offer. The boy was recognizable but she really didn't know who he was and hoped he'd be all right with her teasing.
Making sure she had a good hold on the boy she lifted herself from the bloody trap she was sure was set up merely to be a hinderance to students who were not paying attention. While it was fun to laugh at those who did fall victim, it wasn't as fun when yourself fell through, though she didn't mind if he wanted to have a good hearty chuckle at her misfortune.
"Thanks," she said with a small laugh after she was sure she was safe from the trap.

The girl really did look a silly sight to him as he took her in more fully and he couldn't very well forget all her papers that currently seemed to had formed a circle around her about the stairs. He couldn't help wonder how she couldn't have possibly noticed the stair. He'd noticed it the first time he'd taken that particular staircase and ever since had been wary of all of them. He couldn't help noticing that she didn't seem as embarrassed as he would have imagined.
His eyebrows rose slightly in question at her words and he gave her a slightly curious look as he helped her up. It wasn't often he ran into someone let along a girl that began a conversation with him teasing not that he minded really it was just, unexpected. "I think an arm would have been so you could have just pulled yourself out," Derek replied with a slight smile which curved the side of his mouth, "I don't know about a victim I much prefer the title of rescuer."
"Your welcome," Derek replied once she was standing just a step below himself, "Just try to watch out more carefully next time. We wouldn't want me having to rescue you again now would we," he said somewhat joking with her before taking in her strewn papers once more. "How about I help you out," he said before squating on the staircas to collect her papers and placing them on the book he still held.

"Perhaps an arm would've been a bit more useful," she smiled brightly. However, a pair of arms hadn't proved to be much help so she wasn't sure an extra arm would've done her any good. Yes, he seemed to be all right with her teasing, in fact he was retaliating. "And a rescuer you shall be called if that really is what you prefer."
Letting her light brown eyes sweep around the staircase, she grumbled slightly to herself about how fun it was going to be putting them back in order. "I don't know about that," she grinned at him. "Being rescued is kind of fun sometimes. It doesn't make me look very able to take care of myself, but if I'm in need of being rescued and someone comes to save me as you have, I get to meet said rescuer."
After all, Drew had rescued her and she was getting to know the boy quite well since said encounter. Kneeling to pick up a few of her papers she smiled at her rescuer when he offered to help her, and nodded her head in acceptance of his help once more. "That'd be kind of you to help me again."
It wasn't much of a chore collecting the mess as none had surprisingly falled through the same stair she had, and after they'd been collected, she again smiled at the boy as she was apt to do in gratitude. "Thank you again." So was that it? He helped her, she said her thanks, then they went their own ways? Of course not. It wasn't as though she'd had scared him off, at least she hoped not. Grinning at him, she decided to continue the small conversation they'd started. "I've seen you around, but I'm afraid I don't quite know your name."

"It does have a better ring to it then victim," he replied with a slight smile. Sure it was always good to allusion yourself when it wasn't anything harmful like that since though he may see himself as a rescuer he was still her victim. But regardless he didn't think she needed to know that if she hadn't caught onto the fact.
"I think being rescued is only fun for a girl. Somehow I don't think i'd find it fun being rescued," he said with a slight laugh he just couldn't have helped it at that point. "And as far as meeting said rescuer... hmm for me I think i'd prefer the term victim if anyone were to come by," he said with a small smile. he doubted very much that she understand anything that he was saying or trying to get at but supposed it didn't really matter all that much.
After helping her pick up all the paper's she'd dropped and handed them to her in a small stack he once more told her, "Your welcome and really don't worry about." Derek couldn't help getting a slight smile at that, "Well I suppose that'd be partially my fault i'm not exactly all that sociable in classes at least not when it comes to meeting people. Though I have been told its very different once I have met them."
"I'm Derek Grey," he said with a smile extending his hand to the girl to shake her own in greeting, "And your...?"

"A boy might not find it fun to be rescued, but I know some girls would love to have a chance to rescue a boy, just to turn the tables slightly," she grinned. Of course she would be one of the said girls. Smiling at his words, she laughed a little.
"The other part would be mine," she teased. "I should've gotten around to meeting you before now, especially as we're in the same year." It was definitely partially her fault and now he was going to have to put up with her. He had the chance to walk away laughing and leaving her there in the stairs, but instead he'd decided to become her newest rescuer/victim. The blond wasn't different after she first met someone, no normally she had the same attitude. The way she figured it was: if you're going to scare someone you should let them know right away how scary you could be.
Taking his hand with yet another bright smile, she shook it firmly. "Felicity Hjort, Gryffindor's own squirrel chasing denmate." There was no reason not to add a little flair, even if he wouldn't have a clue what she was talking about. If he was interested, he'd ask.

"I bet they would which is exactly why i make sure that I don't end up needing rescuing," Derek replied with a smile his voice laced with amusement at the very idea. Not that he thought a girl couldn't rescue him that had nothing to do with it but just like she'd pointed out it'd mean that afterwards they'd always having something they could hold over your head.
"Actually, yes, you are right. It is partially your fault for not saying hi," Derek replied with a smile somewhat teasing her in return since he could tell that she'd been teasing him. He was somewhat taken aback by the official title she'd rattled off on him which clearly showed by his expression, "I'm almost scared to ask," he joked, "But what exactly do you mean by squirrel chaser?" Derek said with amusement.

He was interested and he even asked. Smiling, she paused momentarily, took a deep breath, and cleared her throat a little as though she was going to give a long schpiel on what she'd meant. "Well, you see, there's this squirrel I found a few weeks back while I was outside minding my own business. Then this squirrel got to me by how quick it was zipping back and forth here and there across the grounds. Well, I tired of what it was I had been doing," she paused a moment not really remembering what it was she had been doing before then. "And I started running after him. We played a game of chase for a while before my playmate tired and ran up a tree."
Taking a full moment to pause she recollected herself as though she'd just gave away the most terrible plot of the story. "I followed of course, not willing to give the game up so easily, but I got stuck, had to be rescued, had one of the most interesting conversation to date about squirrels, and that ends that section of the story." Smiling, she wondered just how strange he was going to think her. "I have since then been following him whenever I see him in hopes of catching him to make him my pet. And I know technically we're not supposed to have any type of pet other than what's on the list that was sent home, but if one reads between the lines as I have, it states one may not bring a pet other than one of the ones listed. And so I wouldn't be bringing the squirrel to the castle as he's already been here the entire time."
That was her story of being a squirrel chaser. Yes, she was crazy, but at least she kept up a pretty lively life.

Derek couldn't help but thinking that though she might had thought they were in fact playing a game of chase that the squirrel had just been trying to get away from her. Not that he was saying that she wasn't likeable it was just well... its a wild animal. The times he'd come in contact with squirrels they usually did run off to find somewhere to hide and if you did go after them like his sister used to they'd run for the nearest tree for shelter.
Felicity did seem like a nice girl if not a little silly but he supposed being silly wasn't exactly a bad thing it was alot more then he could manage. Deciding to give the whole situation the benefit of the doubt he figured that if she had in fact run into the squirrel on more then one occasion then maybe he did play with her. If nothing could be said she had managed to liven him up a bit and smile, "How do you know its the same squirrel?" Derek asked curiously, "And that does make sense. They couldn't very well get mad at you for finding a loop hole."

"It's actually quite easy tell," she smiled back. "It's all in the eyes, he has the sweetest brown eyes I've ever saw." And it was so. That's how she knew it was the same grey squirrel; well that and it's playful manner. "That's how I'm able to tell it apart from the other squirrels when I don't see it leaving its home of course."
Looking down at the papers in her hands, she wondered how long it was going to take her to put them back in the correct order, if she even did so. Most likely they would end up under her bed in a heap. The Gryffindor knew she should keep the papers in a nice and neat orderly pile as she would need them at the end of the year for OWLs, but she couldn't really help it if she was a bit on the disorganized side.

"Well they definetly are interesting creatures my sister used to be fascinated by them so I know a bit about them but not alot," Derek commented with a slight smile in return. He supposed that you could tell a squirrel apart from another one in much the same way that you always knew which pet was yours whether it be cat, owl, or frog or in this case squirrel. "Do you think you'll be able to get him to keep him for yourself? Just curious but where would you keep them?" he asked, wondering if one day he'd end up finding a squirrel hiding in one of the boxes in their common room or even their dorm.
Nothing the way she looked down at her pile of paper's in her arms he asked, "Would you like any help sorting them out?" He wasn't sure if she was the type of person that preferred order or a little chaos. But considering what he'd already found out about he was leaning toward the latter. Derek wouldn't mind helping her fix them if she was in fact the former though he doubted it.

Momentarily, Felicity looked at him blankly. Was she supposed to know about squirrels? She hadn't thought about that; the blond made a mental note to pick up a book about squirrels, if she were to catch the bugger she should know a bit more about its habits. "I hope so," she replied. "If I catch him I plan on keeping him at least. Though I suppose I shouldn't force him into being a pet." Thinking about it made her wonder how in the world she was going to make it happen; she didn't feel right in forcing him to become a pet, but how else was she going to domesticate him? Perhaps by encouraging and rewarding behaviors, yes that could work quite well. Grinning at Derek, she could only imagine where he'd stay. "Most likely he'd be free to run around as most of the pets are, though I might talk to my mum about helping me with finding a tree of sorts that she could tweak a bit."
A tree would be a much more kindly home to the poor thing than a cat bed or something of the sort. Considering is offer for a moment, she smiled a little sheepishly and nodded her head. "If you wouldn't mind being a bit of a rescuerer once more I'd appreciate the help."
At least if they ended up under the bed they'd be somewhat organized.

Everything she was saying did make perfect sense but it seemed the idea of finding him roaming the common room might actually become a reality. "So is that a yes on possibly finding him in the common room? I'm just wondering so that it wont surprise me if i open my sock drawer or something and he's in," Derek replied with a small smile mostly just messing with her. If she did manage to keep him as her little friend he wondered what their denmates would think about a squirrel wandering the common room. He just hoped their wouldn't be too much conflict between the animals already wandering their quarters.
"No, I don't mind being a rescuerer for a bit more," he replied with a slight laugh, "It's really not a problem so don't worry about it." Looking around he realized they were still on the stairs, "I would suggest sitting on the stairs but it might be best we find somewhere else to sit and sort them. We wouldn't want you losing another limb now would we," Derek said with a smile looking back at her.

"That's a guaranteed yes," she said smiling brightly. The image of the boy opening his sock drawer and having a squirrel jump out at him was playing through her mind, though it was more of a cartoonish version. The whole idea sounded silly, but it was amusing. Felicity hadn't yet thought of how the other pets and her housemates would react to having a wild squirrel in their midst, but that would come to worry her at a later date.
"All right," she said nodding in agreement of finding somewhere else to be. It probably wouldn't have been the best of ideas to sit on the stairs, with her luck she'd find a way to sit on the non-existent one and would fall completely through. "I don't know about that," she replied teasingly. "It would mean you would get to play the part of the rescuerer again or you could have a good laugh while I waited for another to happen upon me."
Of course the Gryffindor was merely teasing as she was apt to do, but she thought she rather liked the boy that was interested in playing the part that seemed to be assigned to him and felt it was all right to do so. "Now are you sure you don't mind?" Felicity didn't want him to feel as though he really had to help her, but if he was willing to she wasn't going to deny herself his company for a bit more, or anyone's company for that matter.
