Today had been a very stressful day for Autumn. It was he first day at Hogwarts. He first day away from home. The only place she really knew where she stood. Her parents woke her up early, making sure she packed everything. He bed, her assortment of comics, her family pet Kneeze were all going to be left behind in her search for education. Before this she was homeschooled. When she was younger Hogwarts was all she ever wanted, all she ever needed. Though, after she grandfather's death she attitude changed. She still wanted to go to Hogwarts, but her parents didn't think she was ready. So they kept her home.
So now Autumn was stuck outside in the courtyard, sitting by herself. There were kids around her playing gobbstones, studying, and doing all other things kids would do. She hoped that she wouldn't be left her all day as it looked like it was going to rain and she forgot her umbrella.

Drew had a lot to do, but had decided to engage in some good old fashioned procrastinating. He had had a conversation with Charlie the previous year and theyh had both realized that they just didn't goof off that much anymore. Was it one of the downfalls of growing up? Dang, he hoped not.
So his goal that afternoon was to remedy the situation. He had grabbed his skateboard with the plan of practicing a few of the basic moves, jump a few benches, edge a few railings. It then occured to him that he really didn't need to wait until he was outside. The hallway was clear and a straight path to the courtyard entrance and if he hit the step just right, he'd sail over the bench he knew was right there.
Setting his board down, he made his approach, gathering speed, swinging around a lost second year anad hitting the step at optimal force. He skillfully flipped tghe board up in the air, sailing along with it, through the arch and into the sunshine, just in time to see his hurdle was occupied. In a panic, he yelled, shifted his weight drastically to avoid the girl, and ended up crashing on the stones that paved the ground.
"Not good..." he groaned, looking up at the sky and trying to figure out if anything was broken.

Autumn didn't notice the boy on the skateboard until it was too late. She ducked for cover, waiting for the inevitable crash and pain to come over her. But it didn't. Slowly raising her head she opened her eyes looking around to see where the boy had went because he certainly wasn't on her.
Then she heard the "Not good.." come from below her. She leaned over the edge of her seat, seeing the boy crumpled on the ground. She jumped off her ledge and moved close to the boy, leaning over him.
"Are you.....ok? That was one heck of a to introduce yourself," She said with concern in her voice.

Drew took a moment before answering her. He had endured his share of injuries and while he was sore and probably pretty scraped up, he didn't think anything was broken. He raised his hands up to check his arms and saw he was bleeding, but it wasn't anything major.
"I think I'll live," he said grining sheepishly up at her, not quite ready to sit up. "I'm sorry about that. Are you okay?" he asked, pretty sure he had missed her, but not positive. If nothing else, he probably gave her a bit of a scare. Most people weren't used to having six and something feet of person being flung at them.

Autumn looked over her body. Nothing but the usual bruises and bumps from home. Giving a grin she looked back down to him. "Nope, I'm alright." She stood up, holding her hand out for him so she could help him up.
"I'm new here. The name is Autumn, Autumn McGloughlin," a wider grin appeared on her face as she finally met someone at her new school. "I'm in Ravenclaw, You?"

Drew was relieved to hear she was okay. More than once he had managed to injure someone else on a first meeting. Maybe this was why he didn't goof off so much anymore. He attempted to sit up and only had a little bit of dizziness so he figured he was okay. Offering his hand over to her and gave her a wide smile in return. It was always good to meet another Ravenclaw.
"Drew Thornton. Ravenclaw also... seventh year" he told her. "So you're new? What year? You seem a little old for a firstie."

She held onto his hand giving him a pull as to help him up. "I'm a fifth year but this is my first time away from home. A little late I may say, but my parents didn't think I was ready for the hustle and bustle of this school."
She gave a little chuckle as she thought about herself five minutes ago, scared that no one would like her and that this school would just spit her out as she walked into it's gates.

Drew had heard that concern a lot, especially from parent who subscribed to the Prophet. Since the well-publicized kidnappings 18 months ago, followed by the Deva invasion in January, a lot of parents were nervous about sending their kids away. And true to form, the Ministry had spent the last few months spinning things to make it seem like the danger had past.
Drew shook her hand, but wasn't ready to pull himself up yet, wanting to give the soreness time to go away. "We have a lot of kids transfering in as older years," he told her with a crooked smile. "So, were you at another school or home schooled?" he asked, figuring it was home school. If she had been at Beauxbatons or someplace, her parents probably would have kept her there, r ight?

"Home schooled, sadly," She said in a mock sad tone. "It's done wonders on my social skills." She noticed he didn't want to get up so she just held his hand as he sat on the ground. She took this time to look around at the other kids in the courtyard. They didn't seem to notice the commotion that just happened.
"So, what's Hogwarts like? My sisters told me loads of stories about dragons and doors that you have to tickle to get in the room. Or were they just telling me a pile of kneezle dung?" She looked back down at him, excited to hear the real facts about her new school.

Drew laughed, thinking he social skills really weren't all that lacking. She didn't drop his hand after the greeting and he sheepishly took it back, his ears pinking up ever so slightly out of embarassment.
"We don't have any dragons around here," he told her, pretty sure Davenport wasn't allowed to keep them on school grounds. "And the only door I know of that needs tickling is the Kitchens, but you do have to watch out for the staircases. They like to switch up and every so often you get stuck in a dsiappearing step if you aren't careful."

She face lit up. "Really? The stair cases move? I was sure that was a lie my sisters told me!" She couldn't contain her giddyness any longer. She let out a little squeal of excitement. This was her lucky day.
After she gained her composure she said, "My parents really didn't tell me a lot about the school. Wanted the surprise to be all the better. But my sisters told me loads. I'm pretty sure there were a few lies thrown in there but all the better! More adventures to be had!"

Drew had to laugh at her reaction, finding it kind of funny how she got so giddy over something he took for granted. It was true that moving staircases weren't very common in the wizarding world, but he hadn't ever gotten that reaction from someone who was used to magical things.
"I'm not sure if you want everything to be a surprise," Drew told her with a lopsided smile. "Best be forewarned or else you end up on the opposite side of the castle and late for class. And that's if Peeves doesn't get to you."

"I think I've met Peeves already. He was throwing moldy walnuts at a group of firsties. He looked at me and then floated away. I think the firsties looked much more tender," she said while laughing. After a few seconds she sighed then picked up Drew's skateboard. She looked it over. It had a good amount of wear on the wheels and the board itself.
"How long have you ben skateboarding?" She asked, putting the skateboard back on the ground wheels up. "My sister Maureen lives in Glasgow and there is this little skatepark there and she used to take me there all the time and we'd skate and get the worst cuts and bruises."

"Yeah, that sounds like Peeves," Drew commiserated. The poltergiest could be a royal pain in the butt sometimes. "I'm surprised he didn't have a go at you though. He usually doesn't care who he messes with. He's equal opportunity there."
He watched her as she inspected his skateboard and while he wasn't sure what she was looking for, he got the impression she knew. He laughed at her recollection as it prought to mind some of his own escapades. "Since I was about six or so," he told her. "When I was eight I tried to ramp it off of the roof of our house and ended up breaking my arm."

Her eyes widened and a quiet laugh escaped her lips. "You roof? I'm surprised you didn't die!" She tried to picture herself doing that and all she got was a crumpled version of her on the ground looking less then stellar. Another laugh came out. "You're crazy. The worst that ever happened to me was a sprained wrist after trying so hard to do an ollie!"
"So they let you skate around here? If so I'm so sending my parents an owl to send mine here. I could have some good fun skating around." She grinned, this could be a lot of fun if she could skate. "When at home I used to do this really fun muggle sport called roller derby. Have you heard of it?" She asked, now spinning one of the wheels on Drew's skateboard with her finger.
