Of course it is.
As was his standard practice, Drew let himself into the Deputy's office and flopped into a chair. These visits were common for him (almost as common as the ones the Deputy herself initiated) but this one seemed a little more official. He was a fifth year after all, and fifth years were supposed to meet with their Heads of House. Nevermind the fact that carrer counseling wasn't supposed to start for another two months. he was ready now.
Aside from that, there were the other things he needed to talk about. In the absense of his parents he had started looking to the woman as a mentor as well as a guardian. He'd never admit it, but he respected the heck out of her and usually found himself in this very chair when something was troubling him.
He had never cleared his mind of Professor Thorne's murder... something that still woke him up at night. The Elevens had gotten more active over the break and that concerned him too. And his wand had not turned up. His parents had found out and weren't too happy he had lost it.
And... yeah, he just wanted to check up on her. She had just had the baby and he wanted to make sure she was okay. Again... something he'd never admit to anyone.
So he sat in his chair, looking around calmly at the odd things on her shelves while he waited until she had a free moment to get to him.

It was going on her third week of pure bed-rest. Between that evil, evil nurse and an even more evil husband, Tamis had only been out of bed to relieve herself or stretch her legs to keep them from cramping. The latter was always under the watchful eye of one of the two and she was sure both of them would have followed her into the bathroom if she hadn't put her foot down. To the point, Raynor was going insane. Absolutely and utterly insane. Three weeks of living like that (practically out of the Hospital Wing, Selena said she could keep an eye on her that way, the nerve!) was enough to make her want to climb the walls. The only relief was the time she had with her baby. That was the most precious gift in the world, and one that scared the daylights right out of her. Well, the baby was currently with Banks, a proud and glowing father. Tamis had insisted he spend some time alone with the child. And not for just good-hearted reasons. Raynor herself wanted to spend her every waking moment with the three week old, but it was the only way to get some time alone. With Banks preoccupied, she had snuck out of the Hospital Wing and up the next floor. It was calming to be back on the second landing of Hogwarts. More so to push open the door and have the comforting sight of her office staring back at her. She was still going to get that rest that those two kept harping that she needed. She would be sitting down, but the paper work, good Merlin, the paper work had to be through the roof. But, there was no mountain of papers on her desk. Someone must have been seeing to that. But there was an all-too-familiar sight of a very tall now fifteen year old boy taking up residence in his usual chair. That soothed her nerves even more, though, like Drew, she would never admit it. "In here all ready, Mr. Thornton? The year has just begun. What did you do this time?" She asked, though it was with a fair amount of humor. Raynor knew he had not done anything, he was usually fidgety when he had. More-or-less her form of greeting. ((Heh. Huge post, but its the first one yet that is supose to be after the birth. Had a lot to say. ))

{Threw me off when you had the baby during the feast. I had to go back and revise my post. } As she entered he jumped to his feet, making sure she got to her chair okay. The woman just had a kid. It seemed like something that needed to be done. "Grew a couple of inches... got my driving permit," Drew answered, figuring that it wasn't quite what she meant, but still, he thinking it was worth mentioning. He retook his chair, sitting up a little straighter this time. He knew from experience that that would probably be her next comment. "You look tired," he said with an easy smile. "Good... but tired." {BTW, nice avoidance of the baby's gender ;D }

Inwardly, she sighed when he rushed to his feet as she made her way to her chair, averaged paced. She was still sore, but no where near enough to keep her from being up and about. Which was what she had kept trying to tell her two body guards. She was tired of everyone jumping to her aid when she was quite capable, but it was quite touching that Drew did. "Grew a couple inches? Dear Merlin, any taller and I'll have to look right up to the ceiling to see you," she lowered herself into her chair naturally, but also with reserved care. "Driving permit?" She asked with a frown, shaking her head. A couple of students within the school were murmuring about those.... whatever that was. "You would look tired too if you just gave birth to a 7.8 pound baby, Mr. Thornton. Though yes, quite healthy, quite able, now lets just try to explain that to a worrisome nurse and an overprotective husband." She chuckled. (( Glad you noticed. ;D . It was difficult, lets hope I can keep it up. ))

"Wow! The kid's almost as big as you are!" Drew teased as he relaxed into his chair a bit more. "But you're doing okay," he said, more as an observation than a question. One less thing for him to worry about. "And the baby. The baby is okay too?" Heck, at seven and a half pounds, he'd be surprised if it weren't.
Of course there was one more person he should ask about. "And Professor G? How's he doing?" he asked with a grin.

Any other time she might have caught him for that remark. However, she was tired, in a good mood, simply glad to be out of that blasted Hospital Wing, and the conversation had taking a jesting air anyone. So, instead of the snapping she laughed.
"Oh, defiantly going to take after the father in height. Positive of that," perhaps not happy about it, but positive. Call it maternal instinct. "Yes, yes, the baby is fine. Cries beautifully," she gave him a wink, leaning back in her chair.
"Professor Gallaudet is simply glowing, which means for the next year the Starbreeze Sisters might get away with just about anything." And it was the sad truth, indeed. It was instant love, as soon as the infant had been placed in his arms. He was going to make a great father. A protective one, but no less great.

"Really?" Drew asked, interested especially at the mention of his girlfriend. Of course there were other reasons as well.
"And the Ravenclaws? How much are they going to be able to get away with?" he asked with a knowing smile. The knowing part was that, even though he was sure the baby was keeping his Head of House very busy, there wasn't a doubt in his mind that she'd be too busy to bust him and Hiro if the need arose.

That all too familiar smirk filtered onto the Deputy's face. That marker that crossed her lips whenever Drew tried to pull a stretch of the near impossible. In other words, it was the blunt marker for "nice try". She schooled her expression as she cleared her throat and waved a hand at the cabinets. The usual tea pot and cups went to work. Raynor at least was dying for a cup.
"How much are they going to get away with? Hmm. Maybe a baby-sitting job every now and then, a dirty diaper here or there. Nothing too extravagant," she replied.
Casting a glance at the self-preparing tea-pot, Tam made sure it sound, before turning her attention back to the boy before her. No, not really a boy per say anymore. No matter. She waved her hand as if to dismiss the thought and another matter at hand. He was here, and his trips to her office usually had some underlying intent. Good Merlin, not more books she hoped. He had cleaned her dry already.
"Well, enough about my end. What brings you to my humble abode today if your not in trouble, hmm?" She asked, but not in bad taste.

He smirked back at the mention of babysitting. Drew had watched his baby cousins enough to know his way around a diaper pail. Not that he really cared for that part of the job, but still he wasn't totally clueless. Something about being a good father when he grew up... whatever that meant.
Another smirk at the appearance of the teapot. One could probably set a clock by the time table of these visits.
And the big question. A polite version of 'what do you want?' but still, that was the meaning. What did he want? Mostly it had just been to touch bases, satiate the need to let her know he was okay and see how she was doing. He wasn't sure why he did it. He just did.
"I'm a fifth year," he finally answered, knowing that should say it all. He was taking OWLs at the end of the year and she was his Head of House. Enough said.

"As disturbing as that may be, Mr. Thornton, indeed you are. Another two years and you will be unleashed on the wizarding world, may Merlin preserve us all," the Professor responded, smiling.
But no, she had a fickle feeling that this had been the heart of him dropping in. Though she had been glad that he had. For, after all, she had been worried about him. Last year, she could distinctly recall his sister and himself loosing a relative among other things. Seeing him in one piece after the summer -- especially with how things were becoming in the wizarding world -- was a relief.
For some reason, Raynor felt it her duty to watch over the boy. He had been in this office enough times for her to be determined to help him make something of himself (not that he needed the help), and she had dragged him into enough that it probably should not have been any other way.
"Career Advice sessions are not until later this year, Mr. Thornton," she pointed out politely.

"Can't we get a head start though?" Drew asked and then continued on without waiting for an answer. They were both fully aware of his career aspirations, so the hard part was really over in his opinion. "I mean, I want to make sure I'm on the right track. It's better to start early, right? And... I wanted to know about that intern thing the Ministry is doing. Should I be doing that?"
And there was the crux of this particular matter. He had heard about the Ministry programs and wanted her opinion on them- an honest opinion. He wasn't about to sign up for a program she thought would be a waste of time. Heck, with all of the Aurors running around the school, he might just be able to stick around Hogwarts.

Truthfully, the Professor could not see why they couldn't do it early. It would make one less session she would have to sit through later in the year with the students. Though yes, the easy part was that she was most certainly aware of what he wanted to do. Raynor had only been supplying him with information on the career choice for a year, now? two? three? She was not entirely sure.
He had come here out of his own time, and the longer she was here, the longer she got to stay away from the Hospital Wing. That, and with the expression on his face and how unforgiving tired she was, the HoH simply did not have the heart to tell him 'no'.
"All right, Drew. All right. I don't see why not." But her lips thinned, pressing sharply against one another at the mention of the intern program. "You're not old enough to intern I believe, just the 'At a Glance' program. All you would really being doing in 'At a Glance' is watching an auror do paper work, you saw me do that enough to know what it is. Its for liability. Ministry doesn't want to look bad if a fifteen year old got killed on a safe field trip. But, to tell you the truth, most of the aurors from my days have retired. These new chaps can't even lick the boots of the old."
Tapping her fingers on her desk, she considered him for a long moment, running off names in her head. "There is only one I would recommend. We're no more than acquaintances, and I doubt he even remembers me, but Corrion would be the only one I would recommend studying under. He is from my days. But he's right here at Hogwarts."
Though if Drew really wanted a birds eyes view of an auror at work, he just had to look out into the hallways. Not that Tamis was happy about that.

Drew smiled, having gotten the exact answer he had been looking for... an honest one. He knew he was still a couple of years away from an internship and, while he didn't doubt that Allegra was getting exactly what she needed from hers, he wanted to know if he'd just be wasting his time in the program.
"Corrion," Drew repeated, committing the name to memory. "Could you set it up for me?" His dad had gotten Allegra her internship and while Mark Thornton's connections were pretty good, Drew couldn't help but wonder if Professor Raynor's were a little better in this particular area.

The Deputy recalled Corrion only vaguely, but enough to know that he wouldn't be a drooling, half-crazed missing-limbed fool. They had worked the same missions once or twice during the Second War. They had been comrades in general, like all aurors in those years. But in their personal lives, if they passed each other at HQ, it had been nothing more than a gruntal greeting of recognition before each moved off.
But still, Tamis was not without her connections. A lot of people still remembered her and kept in contact, a good majority of those residing in the Law Enforcement itself. One of which included its new head, but that was for different reasons.
"I believe something could be arranged," she replied simply.
She could call a favor in, auror to ex-auror.

Drew jumped in his chair at the simple pronouncement. "Really?" he asked excitedly, unable to contain his enthusiasm. He had seen Raynor in action plenty of times, but that had always been in and around school. Yes, that had been cool, but working with an auror, a still active auror, that was going to be so much cooler.
