"Yeah, something like that," Drew answered, knowing that there were a few different ways to describe it. "George Lucas calls it The Force, but my mom calls it baby magic because it's what those real early signs of magic you had really are. It's most evident in small kids who have don't have any formal magic training. They just go off instinct. Something bothered you or scared you and maybe you reacted somehow to take care of the situation. As we get older, we tend to forget those natural instincts and learn to control our magic, but like most anything else, defensive charges can be relearned and trained to become just as reliable as using a wand. If we practice it, we can regain it and control that charge as well."
Drew paused, knowing he had pretty much just recited Raynor's lesson on the topic. Okay, so he had added the Star Wars reference, but other than that, it was pretty much as Raynor had taught the subject. Dang... he was a dork. He waited a moment to see if anyone had questions or if they wanted to discuss something else instead.

Henry considered the possibilities of such an ability; He didn't doubt it's existence for a moment, but it's effectiveness was another matter entirely. Henry looked around the room to see if anyone else was going to volunteer questions, but when no one appeared to want to speak up, he composed a question and voiced it.
"These...erm...Charges..." said Henry, re-concentrating his gaze upon Drew "...How effective are they, exactly?"
He looked around for a moment, and then continued.
"Only...nonverbal casting strips a spell of a bit of it's power, wandless, and it looses more...surely the effectiveness of these charges is nominal without wands or true incantations?"

"It's not a spell you're casting," Drew reiterated, though he didn't fully agree with Henry's statement. With or without a wand, voiced or not, it all depended on how much you practiced the magic that determined its effectiveness. "We're talking about recapturing that baby magic and learning how to control it. It's not a spell at all. It's... it's a force... or like that Aura you mentioned." Drew particularly liked the Star Wars parallel himself. Luke sunk those charges into the Death Star without aiming or casting a spell. He just felt it and did it.
"What do you mean by effective?" Drew asked, thinking there were a lot of ways one could interpret the word. Drew thought they were very effective at doing what they did, but Henry might not agree.

"What I mean is, how much more effective is a charge versus a shield charm?" said Henry, one elbow perched on the back of his chair, and gesturing with the opposite hand casually while he spoke "I mean, if a shield charm is more powerful, then what's the point of using these charges...not that I'm opposed to learning them."
Henry watched Drew with interest, he was indeed quite curious about these charges, but they seemed as though they took a level of concentration during a fight that many people were incapable of, on the other hand, a shield charm was a universally simple spell, useful, and independent from considerations such as one's concentration level, and particular skill.

Smiling at the people as they entered into the room, Tianne took a backseat. She have anything to say, and she wasn't really sure that if she was asked to say something, she'd have the right answer. She wasn't confident speaking in front of too many people, although she was a prefect for her own house, but she could if she was called upon, or something like that. Relief swept through the body as the new people joined their group, which beforehand have been Ravenclaw dominated. She was happy that more people had shown up, and even though she wasn't sure that she trusted them all completely, as some she only knew the name of, Tianne was glad.
They were young, not incredibly, but enough to be able to stay at the school the following year, and help Tianne and Jason with the group that they were to keep going. Thinking about it now excited the girl, as she knew that it would be fun, and not scary with the help of more learned students. Watching the students discuss about nonverbal spells, although Tianne didn't quite follow, she decided to continue to hang low. She wasn't ready to make a fool of herself, not now anyways.

The rest of the group had gotten quiet and while Drew wasn't sure if it was because they were confused, bored, or had the same questions as Henry.
"First of all, I guess it depends on how strong your charges are compared to your shield charms," Drew answered, feeling a little nervous about all of this. He knew Raynor explained it all way better than he ever could, but she wasn't about to come along and bail him out. All he could do was explain it the best he could, telling them what he knew and how it worked. "A defensive charge usually can't deflect as much as a shield charm, but it's benefit is you don't have to pull your wand and cast a spell. It needs to come like a reflex and in that way it can protect you faster, if not better, than a shield charm."

Henry nodded his understanding. Inwardly, he felt that there was far too much left to random chance; How powerful was your charge?, How powerful is the spell threatening you?; He felt that these charges were far too unreliable, and, while he was sure an extraordinarily powerful wizard could produce staggering effects from charges, he thought he would stick with shield charms for the time being. This uncertainty mingled with his constant thirst for knowledge, and was overpowered, it seemed he was incapable of resisting the promises of these charges.
"Right..." said Henry, who realized that the singular word might betray to the room his doubts, he added "...So, how is it done then?"

Now that was the tricky part. It was hard to explain how it was done. It was just kind of... well, done.
So how had Raynor gotten the class to find that reflexive magic? It had been a couple of years since he had sat in on that particular lesson, but he knew she had always started at the beginning.
"Okay, so when you were little... well... if you came from a magical family, that is... maybe you had relatives try to 'force' magic out of you. Like my cousin kept throwing blocks at my sister when she was a baby until she managed to send a couple back at him. Or maybe if you're Muggle born, you did stuff when and you didn't know how it happened. That's what we're talking about. Finding that reflex again and using it. Most of the time, after we've gotten a little bit of training, we lose the ability, relying on our wands instead, but if we can get it back, it can be a really good defensive measure."
He could tell that Henry didn't believe him, but Drew still continued. The Ravenclaw knew first hand the value of being able to use a charge and a wand simultaniously.
"Now, it can't deflect anything major, so don't think it'll protect you from an AK," Drew told them. "Not even a Shield charm can do that. But if you're under attack and maybe something's flying at you, you can block it and still stay on the offence with an attack, right?"
"Sooo... Um... if you guys want to pair up and try it... or if you guys just want to see someone else try it... we can do like Raynor did in class and use the pillows. Just try and pretend the pillow is either someone or something you fear or hate and you have to really channel your emotion into this or it won't work."
Drew stood back and waited. Either they'd team up and try it on their own, or start throwing pillows at him to see how it was done.

Henry looked around; Nobody seemed to want to be the first ones to get up and start practicing, he knew that, at least at first, practicing these charges would be something on the humorous end. Students throwing pillows at each other trying to force magic out of each other; For most of them, it would probably be like being their younger selves all over again, and having their relatives trying to scare magic out of them...only...safer.
He looked over at Anna, who was the only other person in the room who was from his house, and who was his recruiter, and nudged her gently with his elbow, nodding toward the open space before them.
"Want to give it a go?" asked Henry in the form of a whisper "It'd probably feel kinda silly at first, but somebody's gotta be first."

Anna basically spent the whole explination looking back from Drew to Henry wondering if this was really making sense. Though the last bit of information made things seem a little clearer with the whole concept of 'forcing magic' out when a wizard is young. However now that that part was taken care of, it was time for the practice. She felt Henry's elbow and what he wispered. Anna didn't particulary like going first when it came to these kinds of things since she was afraid of making herself look dumb. But he was right, somebody had to be first.
"Alright then." Anna answered back in the same wisper trying to keep the nerves from altering her voice. "Might as well."

Henry stood up and made his way into the open space, as he went, his hand instinctively made for his wand in it's holster under his left arm, but, noticing what he was doing, clenched his hand closed and let it fall to his side. He turned to Anna, and gestured to a spot some five feet in front of him with a smile playing across his face; At the very least, this promised to be interesting. Henry straitened his cloak, and spectacles, and let his arms hang at his side while he waited for Anna to get ready.
"I'll try first, shall I." Henry whispered to her when she came close enough "You can toss the pillow, eh?"
