It was a lazy autumn afternoon, crisp but not cold, and Drew really didn't have much to do. His girlfriend was stuck at school, his best mates all had to work, and even his Aunt had some fancy luncheon she was expected to attend. He had taken Snowflake out for a good run that morning and at the moment, they were both taking a rest, enjoying the afternoon at one of the outside cafes that were sprinkled along Diagon Alley.
His backpack was on the seat next to him and his dog on her leash was napping under his chair. Drew had pulled out a book on Defensive spells that he was supposed to get through for work and when the waiter brought over a sandwich and a butter beer, Drew thanked him with a smile before pushing his glasses back up his nose and getting back to his reading.

(you have no idea how excited i am lol)
Ivy dodged a horde of cameras as she walked out of a small, dingy cafe. As of lately, the Wizarding paparazzi had taken an interest in her life. The last issue of Witch Weekly was filled with Ivy eating a hot dog... none of them were flattering shots. Covering her face, she tried to hold her composure. Today, Ivy wore a black pilot jacket with her old Hufflepuff scarf, and pink-rimmed aviators. Wearing glasses was something she had learned to do once she started gain fame. The shades helped to disguise herself and to tolerate the harsh flash from the cameras.
She sighed-- getting away from work was more difficult than she thought. Ivy loved attention, and she loved being followed at first-- but this was tiring... and they weren't even taking good shots of her!
A cameraman accidentally knocked her in the head, and she groaned in pain. "Oww! Honestly!" she turned around to scold the photographer, but instead crashed into Drew's waiter. The cappuccino she ordered from the cafe spilled all over her jacket, causing her to stumble even more. Catastrophe followed as she grabbed onto Drew's table for support, but instead tripped over Snowflake and the sandwich Drew had ordered became airborne as the table tipped over.
Great... she thought as she fell over, and cameras began to click furiously. Through the confusion, she saw a familar bespectacled face.

Drew looked up only momentarily at the commotion coming down the street. Some fancy starlet with her entourage. It was the main reason everyone avoided The Ivy back home. Actually, he heard that The Ivy here in London wasn't much better if you wanted to have a nice quiet lunch.
And speaking of Ivy... was that really... ?
If it was, he wanted to avoid her all he could, but that seemed unlikely. The girl got jostled into the waiter, the waiter fell into the table nearby, and Ivy nearly landed in Drew's lap. Snowflake, finding refuge under another chair, barked at the whole mess, imagining herself to be much fiercer than she was. Drew was up on his feet as quickly as he could manage, his wand drawn at the crowd of photogs.
"BACK OFF!" he barked, getting between the girl and the cameras. Even if he was only a first year Auror, he was pretty sure he could take on a mob of paps, no problem.

The paparazzi eagerly took pictures of Ivy nearly falling into Drew's lap. This was good stuff, and they could sell this for at least 400 galleons... This was a field day, and they were going to make lots of money. They could see it now on the tabloids, "Model Ivy Falls Over and Makes Out With Random Guy at Cafe". Yes. It was a field day, today. They took some final pictures of Drew with his wand drawn, and apparated away.
Ivy, her sunglasses lopsided, with her coat soaked with coffee and bits of sandwich in her hair, looked quite ridiculous. She managed to stand up and take a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She took a napkin and started to dab herself with it.
"Thanks Thornton," she mumbled gratefully. "Can I sit with you a bit?" Her twisted her ankle awkwardly during the fall, and needed a minute to cool down.

The photgraphers left quickly and Drew really didn't care whether it was the threat of his wand or the fact that they had gotten what they wanted. They were gone and that was the important thing. Now everyone could go back to enjoying their Saturday in peace.
Drew turned to look at the girl and while he really didn't want to deal with Ivy, he couldn't very well send her off without at least giving her a chance to catch her breath. "Yeah, sure," he told her, moving his backpack to the ground so she could sit. Snowflake would get into it, but there wasn't much that she could wreck in there. "You're a mess, Ivy. You want something to drink?" he asked, calling the waiter back over. The cafe staff had managed to clean up the mess and were already approaching with towels and water for their famous patron.

"Thanks Thornton..." Ivy said, cleaning herself up. "How's that Kelpie sister of yours?" Over the years of school, Ivy had theorized that Allegra wasn't actually human-- she was either a Horklump, a Kelpie or maybe even the Yeti. Most of her reasoning was absurd and ridiculous. For example, once Ivy saw Allegra eating a carrot... and that was enough for Ivy to suspect of Allegra actually being a Horklump. She kept a very thorough journal of her "findings".
Drew was being cold and distant, as usual. Ivy adored Drew in every sense, and didn't care that she usually annoyed him. It probably started when Ivy and Mike dated each other for a few months during her last year. Mike and Ivy were pretty much the most Mary-Sue couple ever. The last she heard of Mike was that he went to some jungle to go defend some helpless tribe of Wizards. 'Cause y'know... that was how Mike was. The over muscular jerk that was tough on the outside, but a softie on this inside.
"What have you been up to? I haven't seen you since I left school..."

"She's doing okay," Drew answered, not sure if Ivy was confusing Allegra with his friend Charlie. The only explaination he could have for Ivy calling his sister a Kelpie was that she was mixing up something or other with that game he and Charlie had made up in camp that one year. Drew didn't worry about it too much. Ivy was always a little wierd.
"Me? Not a whole lot," Drew answered. "I'm living here in London now, working at the Ministry. No need to ask what you've been up to though." He smirked a little and nodded over to where the photographers had been only moments before. "How's that all going for you?"

"You're working for the Ministry, now? Honestly-- I never thought you were all that smart... Are you a janitor or something?" Ivy said, bluntly-- she coughed, realizing what she said. She always spoke whatever was on her mind. She realized how little she knew about Drew. She always thought of him as the cute little (yet, very very tall) kid brother of Allegra. Ivy probably even had Drew on a list of boys she would be okay to date. She never knew of his aspirations or how smart he actually was.
"Are you still dating that girl...?"
Was it Alhana or that Gryffindor girl on the Quidditch team? She could never keep up with Drew's love life, even though it didn't change much. Ivy wasn't very good at those kind of things. Anything that didn't have to do about herself, she usually forgot.
"Life is okay. I want to get married, though. Seriously-- my biological clock is ticking like mad! I really want to have kids soon, and I'm not going to be young and beautiful forever! I might as well have kids now and become one of those really hot moms, right?"

"Janitor? Please..." Drew answered, rolling his eyes. There was nothing wrong with being on the maintenance crew, but Drew wasn't surprised Ivy knew so little about him. "I'm the night watch guard..." Let her think what she wanted. He really didn't care.
He hadn't started dating Felicity until after Ivy left school, so he was pretty sure the model was talking about Alhana when she asked about that girl. Knowing that she was refering to the ex, he wasn't as offended by her terminology. "No, we broke up a couple of years ago. I haven't talked to her since." Again, he didn't want to get into sharing his personal life with a girl he really didn't care for.
He was a little surprised when she mentioned getting married. She wasn't all that old, only a couple of years older than he was, and while he had friends who had already gone that route and even had a kid, he still couldn't imagine being at that stage of life, even when he was madly in love with Felicity. They had a plan and in three years, they'd make a new plan that would almost definitely include the M-word and then kids. For now, he just wanted to get through the Academy and make sure Felicity got her chance at research in Kenya.
"Really?" he answered, not hiding his surprise. Ivy just seemed way to into herself to really want kids. Then again, if her goal was to be a hot mom... well, he felt sorry for the kids. "So, you're seeing someone then?" He hadn't heard anything of that on the tabloids, but then again, he really didn't follow them all that closely.

Baal sat in the cafe, sipping some coffee and taking in the place. He had gone to Brazil for a couple of months, and it was nice to be back in Diagon Alley. He had always preferred coffee to tea, and he liked it black. He greatly enjoyed people-watching, and had been amused at the scene going on in front of him. When the girl mentioned marrying and having kids, he laughed and got coffee coming out of his nose. It hurt. A lot.
"Ah!" He shouted.

"No, I'm not seeing anyone..." Ivy said, visually upset. Tears filled her eyes-- it was difficult being a model, no one took her seriously. Hell, no one ever took Ivy seriously! Maybe it was the way that she portrayed herself. Suddenly, a brilliant idea flashed into her head. "Drew-- you should hook me up with someone!" she said, eagerly reaching out for his hands. "I mean-- you know lots of people! How about that hot, blind guy that you were friends with? Or maybe someone at the Ministry! Y'know... I am quite a catch. Plus, I would totally let you be our children's godfather, too! They could call you Papa Thornton!" she nodded enthusiastically.
She heard someone choke in laughter about her life. It was some old man that looked like he belonged in the Lord of the Rings. Ivy looked at Baal disdainfully and snapped. "My life is nothing to laugh about, old man! How rude of you...."

Drew wasn't sure why she was so upset, but his instincts made him reach out and hand her a napkin to wipe her eyes. Even if he didn't like Ivy, he still didn't like to see her upset. Sure, he had pretty much always had a girlfriend since his first year, but he was pretty sure he wouldn't be that desperate if he wasn't.
"N... uh... I don't know if I can do that Ivy," Drew answered, not sure he wanted to put any of his friends into a situation like that. Fortunately, the man at the table next to them made a small noise, distracting Ivy and hopefully giving Drew an out. "Mr. Nelson... uh, Baal?" Drew said, recognizing the man and remembering he wasn't supposed to call him sir/. Calling him Mister was probably the same sort of thing.

Baal looked to the girl in confusion. He realized that she had mistaken his shout of pain for laughter. He started shaking his hands violently, trying to indicate that there had been a misunderstanding. He probably just looked like an idiot. After a few seconds, his nostrils stopped hurting so much that he couldn't speak, so he spoke.
"No, sorry. I just got coffee up my nose. It really hurts." He turned to her companion. "It's Drew, right?"

Ivy was still holding onto Drew's hand, not letting go of her death grip until she got exactly what she wanted. The oversized dwarf man proceeded to apologize. "Drew, you know this guy...?" Ivy asked disapprovingly. What kind of people was Drew socializing with? This guy looked like he might have come from some foreign country like... Brazil or something.
She would not let go of Drew. Not until he agreed to be her official Matchmaker. Plus, the thought of little Ivies running around calling him Papa Thornton was too cute. She couldn't let him go this easily. She would NOT let him go this easily. Although Ivy was still Ivy, she had changed a lot!
For instance, she was a lot less into herself. Instead of spending hours looking at herself in the mirror, she only spent a few minutes a day. She was confident enough to know that she looked perfect all the time, anyway.

"Yes sir... Drew Thornton," he answered the man, forgetting not to call him sir. If the man didn't forgive an occasional slip, he could blame Drew's parents. "This is my... uh... this is Ivy Xin."
The girl was still clutching onto him and Drew felt a sense of protectiveness over her, even thought he knew Baal wasn't a huge threat. "Yeah, Ivy. This is Baal Nelson. He runs the crystal ball shop down the street." The way she was looking at him, Drew was hoping she'd give up on her idea of dating his friends.
