He had heard bits of what had happened and filled in a lot of the holes for himself. She and Celina had been taken to Shaw, made an example in front of the whole school, tormented by their faceless captors, and tortured by Shaw's wand.
It was nearly unbearable to hear her retell what had happened, the guilt of not being there to protect her tearing at him. Knowing that it was hurting her just to tell him made him want to put a stop to it, but he also knew he needed to hear. He needed to know what had happened.
He nodded as she spoke, having heard all of this from other sources. But one thing made him pause. "He didn't hurt the bear?" he asked, surprised and a little hopeful. He wasn't exactly sure why, but he had always felt like that wooden bear was intricatly tied to them, like it held part of the magic between the two of them. When he had heard that it had been destroyed, it had crushed him. To hear that it might have survived seemed to give him a little hope.

The memories were bringing the tears back furiously suddenly, she could feel them run slowly down her cheeks as she tried to concentrate on the blueness of Drew's eyes, watching a few of her tears drop slowly against him. She hadn't wanted it to happen, she just wanted to get away, go with Celina, just go home and be safe. If she hadn't returned like her dad wanted her not to, it wouldn't have happened.
"No. I begged him not to, and he didn't. He said it was enough and then he turned to Celina and he got really close to her. I don't know what happened, but she told me he threatened her family, and because of that, she had to tell. What if he went after her family because she lied? She couldn't chance that, she had to tell on me. She told, and he made her tell everyone, he made her say it really loud for everyone to hear. She told him everything, the whole plan, and then he started talking about making an example, that it was the perfect time to show everyone what would happen if they were like me."

Drew touched a finger to her cheek, wiping her tears the best he could. He was trying his best to keep his own emotions under control, but he could tell it was a losing battle as he sniffed and felt it catch in his chest. He roughly swiped his own eyes with the palm of his hand as Felicity continued her story.
She had told him a little of this part that day in the rain. He had said some pretty awful things to Celina about loyalty and friendship, but when he heard that Shaw had threatened Celina's family, Drew felt terrible. During his own kidnapping and torture, Shaw and his partner had threatened to hurt Allegra but Drew hadn't budged. Allegra had been in the castle and Drew knew that she was safe. If Shaw had threatened Celina's family, she had had no such assurance and Drew knew it. Celina had given over her friend to protect her brother. Drew hated it, but he couldn't blame her.

Closing her eyes against his touch, she wished he didn't want to know. There was no way he couldn't have heard others talk about it, there were some that would talk about it just to talk, why did he feel the need to hear it from her? Why did she have to go over this again? Felicity had refused to talk about it to the papers, she had refused to talk to the few professors that had approached in want to talk, she had refused to talk about it to her friends, even with Celina. When she and her best mate finally talked, they didn't really even talk, just about what Shaw had threatened. No one knew he had threatened the Jedynak family, just Celina, her, and Drew.
"And then he..." Felicity couldn't even finish, because it was the part when he did what he did. The tears fell faster, this was when he hurt her. Turning his wand toward her, making an example of her, showing the power he had over everyone at that school. "And no one stopped him, or tried to."
All of the professors were there, and not one of them did anything about it, not even Raynor.

"I know..." Drew answered softly, not about to force her into talking about anything she didn't want to. He had learned his lesson the previous spring and knew she needed to do things the way she needed to do them. Making her do it his way would just make everything worse.
No one had stopped Shaw and Drew had no answer for that. He could come up with some theories, like being too shocked to act, or too worried of the saftey of everyone else, but he didn't know for sure. He hadn't been there to stop it either.
"I'm sorry..." he said, though he knew he'd make the same choice if it came up again. All he could do next time was hope that Felicity would trust him to come back for her.

Dropping her head, Felicity buried her face deep into his neck, trying to subside the sobs that caught in her throat. No one had tried, no one but Celina and she could only do so much. If he threatened her family, what was to say he wouldn't snap his fingers and send someone after them all? But no one had tried to help her, tried to keep her from being hurt. They all watched, and did nothing. No one said anything, no one dared to try. She was punished for her mistake and they knew she had to be punished for it. Otherwise they would've helped, wouldn't they have?
Again he apologized, but she knew it wasn't his fault. Raynor made him leave, he didn't have a choice in the matter. If he had had a choice, he wouldn't have left her.

"I'm sorry,'" he said again, knowing that was all he could do other than hold her close. He hadn't been there when she needed him. She had been scared and he wasn't there to comfort her. She had been hurt and he hadn't been there to protect her.
The worst part of it all was that as much as he wanted to promise her it would never happen again, that he'd always be there to protect her, he'd never let her be hurt or scared again... he knew he couldn't honestly tell her that. All he could do was apologize for something he would end up doing again. "I'm sorry..."

The apologizing needed to stop, he couldn't do anything about it, she couldn't do anything about it. What happened had already happened and there was no changing it now. It was in the past and it was done with, the only thing left was the fear her heart felt for when it was to happen once more. Did she know it would? No, but her fear kept her reminded that it was possible, and that she wasn't safe because people wouldn't do anything to keep her that way. Only Drew would when he was there, and her dad, but her dad wasn't there, Drew was.
"Do you...do you want to move?" she mumbled into his neck, wondering if maybe looking up at the stars would help her to remember that they weren't there, that she was safe because she was with Drew. And Drew would keep her safe.

He wasn't sure if her telling him what happened had made her feel any better, but it had only reminded him how he had abandoned her and how he couldn't always be there for her as much as he wanted to. He had known, as soon as she told him she wanted to talk about last January, that he'd end up feeling miserable and guilty, but he was still glad she had told him. He deserved to feel this awful.
He nodded at her question, not fully comfortable on the bench to begin with, but knowing that she was in charge of this evening. "If you want to. Where did you want to move?"

Feeling the slight bob of his head, answering her question, Felicity deeply breathed in his scent, not really wanting to move. However, she was beginning to not feel very comfortable where she was, and while she loved laying with him, she thought maybe being on the ground, looking up at the makeshift stars would be much nicer, as well as to remind her she was free.
"I do," she told him softly, sitting up and stretching her arms above her head before reaching to help him to sit up as well. "Over here..." Moving off of him and the swing, the blonde leaned in to kiss him lightly before taking his hand and pulling him toward a spot on the floor where she wanted to lay. It was nearly the center of the room, off to the side just a bit, and she thought it looked nice. The food she had prepared was nearby as well, so if he was hungry, he could eat.
Wrapping her arms tightly around his middle, Felicity closed her eyes for a moment, leaning against him, just taking the time to remind herself that she was safe with him. And then she stretched her neck enough to place her lips back on his for one more kiss before she took a seat on the ground, patting the spot next to her for him to take.

There were a thousand things he wanted to ask her, but he wasn't sure this was the right time. He was feeling absolutely miserable and all he wanted to do was just hold her now. It wouldn't fix anything, he knew that, but he'd feel better just knowing she was safe right then and there.
He let her pull him up, feeling a little better with the kiss and simply having her arms around him. He took a moment to breathe in the scent from her hair before she sat down and invited him to join her. He didn't need to be asked twice. Planting himself next to her, he leaned back on his hands and stretched his legs out, glad to have a little more room than the swing had allowed.

When he sat down beside her, light brown eyes pivoted to watch his long frame stretch out beside her. Admiration went through her mind as she just let her eyes wash over him, taking in every outline, contour, and shadow she could. There was something about him that she found so attractive, he was adorable, had beautiful eyes, the most perfectly imperfect smile, a scent that made her dizzy, soft hair that she loved the feel of, and a feeling that sent shivers through her body.
Turning her body to face his, Felicity just stared another moment in silence. And then reaching out a hand, she traced a finger down the muscles of his arm, and when she reached his wrist, she lifted her hand up to his collar bone and began another line, this time down the length of his torso, ending at the waist of his pant line. The want to kiss him and never stop returned again, but she didn't pursue it, not sure if he wanted to.

He wasn't in the best frame of mind, and he smiled weakly as she just looked at him. Filled with worry and self doubts, his unanswered questions were nagging at his thoughts but they quickly became inconsequential at her light touch. The feel of her finger drawn down his arm made his breath catch in his chest and he knew then and there that it was going to be awfully hard to remember to stop when he should. He honestly didn't think she was trying to make him forget on purpose, but at the same time, he wasn't about to ask her to not to do it anymore. He'd just have to work really hard at keeping his head straight.
He hand slid down his front, resting on his waist and all attempts at remembering were thrown out the window. Reaching for her, he let a hand caress her cheek before leaning her on her back to give her a good kissing.

Light brown eyes were still tracing over his body when he lifted his hand to her cheek, and it was only then that she closed them under his touch, turning her face into his palm enough to lightly press her lips against him. Under the feel of slight pressure to move back, Felicity let him guide her where he wanted, keeping her eyes shut, trusting him the entire time. While she didn't really think they were done talking, knowing he hadn't asked her hardly anything while she spoke, she was grateful at the same time that he seemingly understood that she wanted a small break, she wanted him.
Kissing him didn't make those things go away, but kissing him sure did make her feel better. Next term she wasn't going to have him around like he was now, even this summer was going to make things harder without him next term. Plans were made for the summer, her family was taking their usual camping trip, she was going to work in the mornings and attend Church on Sundays as always, but she thought she might've gotten her mum and dad to agree to let her spend her spare time with Drew if she could.
It was hard explaining to them how she felt about him, knowing she couldn't tell them the extent of what she felt, especially not in a letter. If they knew, they'd make sure there was less time spent between them, she was sure of it. Neither of them sounded too pleased about the ring she was given, even if it was only a promise ring (though she knew it meant more) they didn't like it.
But even the ring didn't matter to her, what mattered was the fact he promised her she could have his heart for as long as she wanted it, and she wanted him to have hers, too. And what mattered the most at that moment was that he was with her and kissing her as she wanted him to.

Lost in just being so close to her, the only thing he could think of was the smell of her skin, the touch of her hand, the taste of her lips. There were no problems, no questions, no concerns. All there was were the stars, the warm night, and the girl in his arms. She loved him and he loved her. Nothing else mattered.
He took his time, slowly kissing her in that different way she had asked him to, his hand drifting to its newly approved place, gently caressing the curves he was now allowed to explore. Every inch of her sent a new excitement through him and though he was as close as he could get to her, he pushed in more and kissed her deeper.
