Good money was, of course, any knut that could be spent. Drew wasn't getting paid much at his job, but that didn't really matter. His wages had been a concession he made for the short employment period, but it wasn't really the number on his paycheck that was the important thing. Drew didn't need a whole lot. He got an allowance, his room and board were taken care of, and his parents would be the ones to pay for his books and supplies for at least another four years. What mattered was he had gotten his very first job and he had gotten it without his parents' help.
"It's just for the summer," Drew added, feeling a little better about it. "Next summer... I'll be in London permenantly so I can get a better job. They'll hire a guy who's older and willing to stick around, even if it's only part time."

"Exactly," Felicity agreed wholeheartedly with him. It was just for the summer, and the next summer he'd have a job that was more than temporary. And he'd be training, and then Felicity confused herself a little, or rather Drew confused her.
Felicity thought Ministry positions were paid, and since he was training to be an Auror, wasn't that what he'd be getting paid to do? Wasn't that his job when he left Hogwarts? Or was it more like a preparation school? Could it be possible he was still going to be going through a schooling of sorts for three years and then he'd be working as an Auror? It hadn't occurred to the blonde it was possible the training was just that, training.
"You'll only be a year older," she reminded him with a tease, making note to look that up sometime. Perhaps when she next went to the library. "But yes, since you won't be going off to school again, they'll be more likely to hire you."
Sighing softly, Felicity closed her eyes and sat there for a moment, leaning into him. "I am really proud of you though, no matter what," she told him softly.

"I'll be 18," Drew reminded her and while 17 was a big deal in the Wizarding World, 18 seemed to be the magic number everywhere else. And of course, that would probably bring up a whole other set of issues with Felicity's dad.
She snuggled up to him and he felt better about the whole job situation. He wasn't going to be worried about what the Hjorts thought about it and if they asked him, he'd come right out and tell them. It was a crappy job at minimum wage, but he was proud of it. None of his friends back home had the guts to take a crappy minimum wage job. A good chunk of them didn't even see the point in taking a job in the first place.
"I'm proud of you too," he said with a small smile and kissed the top of her head. "And I'm hungry..." Dinner was probably cold, but he could warm it up easily enough.

"Eighteen yes, but still not really someone old enough in general to be relied on too much," Felicity answered. That was another thing with her dad and the business he ran for his boss, he went on a lot about the reliability of some people and how many didn't seem to be such at all. Though, Drew was reliable in her opinion. "But you are really reliable, I just hope they see that when you're job hunting after graduation."
Giggling softly, Felicity didn't know what he was proud of her for, but she liked that he was. It was nice that he was. And it was a regular transition into food. As always.
"I think I am too, a little bit," the blonde answered, not moving just yet. Her stomach was starting to ache a little and she figured it was because she hadn't eaten her usual amount that day.
Sitting up, she pulled her plate closer to him and smiled. "So, shall we?"

He almost took offence to her characterization of 18 year olds. If he was unreliable a year from now, then what was that saying about his character now? But she clarified, saying what he knew she had really meant. He had also encountered that problem when looking around for a job. If no one wanted to hire someone for ten weeks, then they really didn't want to hire a kid they didn't know and who might take that long just to train up.
He took his own plate up but watched her carefully as she took hers, waiting for her to take the first bite. He was confident of his cooking abilities, but there was still that concern that he had done something wrong or that she wouldn't like it.

There was a ton of food sitting on her plate, and she wasn't quite sure where to start. The chicken looked good, broccoli was always best, but those potatoes covered in cheese looked awfully delightful. As her eyes were down on the plate in front of her, she wasn't aware Drew was watching her to make sure he'd done a good job. And even then, she had yet to say she didn't like something he'd made, or at least she couldn't remember telling him that.
After making her decision, Felicity's fork dove into the potatoes. Chicken was always good in her opinion, she hadn't found a way she didn't like it yet, and broccoli was her favourite vegetable but she couldn't remember ever having cheesy potatoes before and they looked amazingly good.
Taking that first bite, she waited a moment, savouring the taste of it. "Mmm...these are really good, love." Filling another forkful up, she looked up at him and realized he hadn't taken a bite yet. "You should try them...if you didn't while you were making them."

Drew grinned back, pleased with her reaction, even more so when she called him "love". He knew she called a lot of people by that pet name, but for some reason it just sounded more special when it was for him.
He dug into his own dinner and had to agree with her remarks. Granted, it wasn't hard to bake a chicken and steam some vegetables, "We haven't even had dessert yet..." he commented casually as he took another bite.

Taking another bite of potatoes before she dug into the broccoli, Felicity hummed a good response just to show him she really did like his creation. It was tasty, that was all there was to it. Lifting her glass of milk to her lips, she took a small sip and nearly choked when she tried answering him while still swallowing. Coughing for a moment, trying to get herself back on track with normal breathing, and doing her best not to laugh at the same time over the situation she was finding to be hilarious, she finally turned to him with a big smile.
"There's dessert?" she asked excitedly. He'd said she would have to eat his cooking to see if there was any, and she figured there was one, but it didn't make her any less excited; it was just another surprise. "It's not poisoned, is it?"

Well, of course there was dessert. It wouldn't be a proper birthday dinner without it, would it? Her fit of choking concerned him though and he watched her carefully until he realized she was okay.
"Poisoned?" Drew answered with a short laugh, relieved she had stopped coughing and surprised she had gone back to that topic. "I thought we already went over that?" Poisoning a shared dinner was just too big of a hassle.

"We did," Felicity answered. "But it doesn't mean the solution was resolved any. You said it would be difficult to really poison any portion of a shared dinner, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done. And even in the Princess Bride, Westley developed an immunity to the poison that one man tried using on him. Perhaps you've spent your time building immunities?"
Of course, once more it was all in jest. Though, Felicity momentarily wondered whether it was possible to brew some sort of potion that would allow a person immunity to poison for a length of time period, she'd have to ask next potion class.

Drew made a face and shook his head sadly. "Unfortunately, I ran out of iocane powder late last week and haven't had a chance to replenish my stock," he told her. "Anyway, I don't think Westley would have used it on Buttercup anyway, would he?" To go through death, torture, and ROUSes to be with her and then just poison her? Inconceivable.
"Besides, if the dessert was poisoned, who would I make snow angels with?" he asked with a crooked smile.

Sticking her tongue out at Drew, Felicity had to grin. She loved that he knew the Princess Bride, one of her favourite movies, and she liked that he kept referring to her as the Buttercup to his Westley. Buttercup was an interesting character in Felicity's mind, a little on the too pansy girly side, but she liked her all the same. Though, she couldn't help but wonder what if Buttercup was more able to care for herself rather than being the damsel in distress so much.
"No, Westley probably wouldn't poison the love of his life," Felicity said before thinking about it. And when she did realize what she'd said, she bit her lip. The fifth year didn't mean anything about them by saying Buttercup was Westley's love.
"Sammy?" she said tentatively, with a shy smile, still feeling a little embarrassed about what she'd said.

Drew had a slightly different interpretation of Buttercup's character. She dove off a boat into eel infested waters to escape kidnappers, shoved a dread pirate so that he tumbled into the gorge, fought off an ROUS, and made demands of evil Princes. That was pretty tough for a damsel in distress. Sleeping Beauty and Snow White never did anything even remotely close to that.
And why didn't she mean anything by saying Buttercup was Westley's love? Theough he didn't know exactly what she was thinking, Drew could tell she had embarassed herself when she bit her lip. He still didn't see any reason for it. He had already told her he loved her.
"Sammy? I don't think he likes me much," Drew answered with a grin. "I don't think he'd be very good at it anyway."

What she hadn't meant was that she wasn't assuming she was the love of Drew's life, yes, he's said he loved her, but that didn't make her the love of his life. Of course, if that was how it turned out then she really wouldn't have minded. Felicity was glad though that he seemed to skim over what she'd said, if he'd taken it to mean anything when she'd said it.
"Sammy likes you," Felicity protested. "He hasn't bitten you or anything like that, and he's not nearly as skittish around you as he is others." Her little gray squirrel was a big help to what brought her and Drew together. It was that jump from his tree, she was sure of it. That and she'd seen his silky, glow-in-the-dark boxers in the Leaky Cauldron.
"And maybe not, but that wouldn't stop him from trying." Grinning at Drew, Felicity filled her fork with more potatoes and offered it to Drew.

"It must be the Squirrese..." Drew concluded, figuring that had to be the reason Sammy liked him. Even though he still suspected he had made a fool of himself by blurting out he wasn't ready for a relationship, that day by the tree was probably one of his favorites.
"I'd like to see him give it a try," Drew said, finding the image of sammy making snow angels pretty funny. He took the offered bite of potatoes with a wide smile before sitting back and glaring at her. "I think you just tricked me into eating the poisonous stuff..."
