"Music gigs?" Matty nodded again slightly. She was quite sure that the boy would know what they were, though she had a feeling that he was curious about the finer details of the subject. It was a rather Common thing in her area, to attend a music venue or gig, and when the teen went home each holidays she usually went along to a few with her friends back home. "Back home they're basically like mini concerts. A couple of youth bands play at a venue, and a whole lot of people come along. Quite fun, really." she said with a merging with her smile. They were a good way to enjoy music, and pass the time when she was at home. Besides, the bands played a range of music. From Reggae to Alternative, from Rock to Pop, from Folk to Punk. Most of them were worth the effort to get there. "So where abouts do you actually live?" she further asked him, however feeling quite guitly doing so, for she hadn't known before now.
When Em asked Matty if he wouldn't fall, she didn't exactly anger him straightly. "If you're balanced you won't." she said kindly, watching the boy was he slowly, but surely, got up on the board beginning to straighten himself out. The teen liked to see Emeric trying out new muggle-orientated things. Like her iPod, for example, had been quite odd for him when they first met. When the Snake did get up, Matty clapped a couple of times. "Now, well, try not to fall," she said, letting her fingertips drop into the brim of the water. "Using your legs to balance helps, but whatever floats your boat." Matty said with a grin.

Mini concerts; the only concerts he had been to besides the music festival over the concert with his father to meet with someone, was usually classical music. It was common for a family outing for the Troy family to be a night at the theater seeing the famous twenty stringed violin player work her magic, or seeing the animagus cello player who liked to entertain audiences by changing into her animal form of a raven and continue playing the cello as she did so. How she did it was rather questionable, but it was interesting. " Sounds like fun. " He answered back to her with a small nod. It did sound fun, just getting a group together and going. He'd probably never be allowed, though.
He smiled slightly at her comment, remembering that he didn't know where she lived either. " Outskirts of Dublin. Kinda big house. " Well, it was a very big house. Almost too big at times. " And yourself? " He asked curiously. ' If you're balanced you won't. ' Em shook his head, saying, " That's easy for you to say, you're a natural. " He shook a little haphazardly on the board before straightening himself out, perching precariously. " Hey... " He said, then again. " Hey! I'm not... falling. " He said, barely moving for fear of falling over as he was trying so hard not to do.

The teen smiled in reply to Emeric commenting about the music gigs being fun. The girl remembered when A Halloween Ball had be held at Hogwarts a couple of years ago, and the Weird Sisters had come to play. Before then, Matty hadn't heard much, or head of much Wizard Bands. The music was the same, but their lyrics and such were allot different to Muggle bands. Allot of songs in the Muggle world were written about love, loss or friendship. Whereas in the Magical world, judging from the very few bands she had heard, the lyrics branched off into things like brewing potions, quidditch games, duels and animals or great wizards.
The teen's smile increased when Em told her of where he lived, and she gave a small nod. In fact, not even six months ago, Matty had been to the Irish Country side to visit Seth and Ryan. Ireland had been very beautiful, and for the few weeks she was there, the girl had loved the Country side. And now that he mentioned it, Matty could detect a faint edge of Irish tone in his voice, something that she had easily brushed over when they first met. "I went to Ireland just last year, it was beautiful." she stated, before replying to his question. "We own a property just outside of London near a forest." the girl answered. Matty simply continued to grin when Emeric finally was able to sit up on the board, and as he said, without falling. Letting out a small laugh, the girl swished her feet around in the water slightly. "Well done. I think you have the potential to be a professional surfer one day." she remarked playfully.

Em's mind was still going over the idea of concerts, or at least, the idea he was more used to. He remembered one particular outing with a small smile. His father had treated the family out to a nice dinner beforehand, and it was really one of Em's more fonder memories of spending time in the company of his family. He didn't dislike them, but it was hard to please them at most times. He gave himself a moment or two to push away these thoughts, he wasn't all that interested in telling Matty about family right now, or at least get into it too much. It was topic he knew he couldn't escape very well, but he didn't want to right now. He just couldn't get into it, he was having too much of a good time just hanging out.
He decided to focus, instead, on Ireland as they talked about it. It was one of the things not exactly belonging to Emeric that he took a great pride in. It was beautiful, and he nodded his head in agreement with Matty as she uttered those same words. " A forest of the dangerous variety or of the... cute bunny variety? " The dangerous one sounded a bit more interesting to him, but then again Matty was a girl and would probably appreciate a more cuddly version. Perhaps it was a combination of the two, though. He was still having trouble just not moving too much. He was afraid that if he leaned forward he would topple in the same direction, and if he leaned backwards too much he would just slide off. Surfing was not his thing. So he allowed a smirk to relax on his face as he heard the girl's teasing statement. " Indeed. I'm like to thank my teacher, the wonderful Matty Wentworth. " He said, giving a light clap for her.

"A forest of the dangerous variety or of the... cute bunny variety?" Matty's smile began to tug into a smirk. To be frank, the girl had never considered what kind of wood it was. Generally it depended on the seasons. In Autumn when the trees coloured and the leaves painted the ground in a variety of warm pastel shades, the wood was very curious looking. In winter, when the snow coated the ground and trees, it was quite calm and peaceful. Spring was by far the best time to be there, for everything was fresh, new and lush. And, well, Summer was nice as well. There was a small lake a mild walk away from her house, with tree swings and such, which was great for those hot days when they did come about. Besides the seasons, the forest was rather plane. It had a couple of tree forts, and a few abandoned properties, which were interesting. "Both, I think. It depends what you're looking for." Matty finally replied, mystery tying into her tone.
When Em thanked her, the teenager giggled softly. She drew her hand from the ocean, before lightly splashing water at the boy. Not enough to force him to fall off, but enough to reach and further wet him. "You're such a dork, Em. But thank you all the same, you've been a co-operative and enjoyable student." Matty teased, grinning. She stopped the flicking of the water, before lying down on the surfboard again, letting her legs rest on the bottom end of the board. The girl propped her elbows up on the board, resting either side of her chin in her hands.

Emeric pondered in the Forbidden forest. He had never actually been in the place besides just toying along the edge of it without a specific reason to be doing so. He had heard tales of it though, rumors dating back a number of years. Tales of vampires, werewolves, giants and crazed centaurs were floating around in the Slytherin's mind, and he wondered if they were true. Being a typical teenage male, his curiosity peeked at the thought of werewolves. They were dangerous, he knew this for certain, but he couldn't quite understand his fascination with them. For the sake of Matty, though, he was hoping that there was nothing more dangerous than a lost puppy to be found in the woods next to her house. " Ever seen anything too strange before? " He asked, quirking his head as he asked.
He relaxed a little bit, allowing himself to slump down slightly as he let his hands fall into the water, swishing this way and that as he did so. He didn't look up as she splashed him, although once he knew the flicks of water were done falling on him he turned his head to look at the girl, his grin in place. " I'm a dork.. " He said, pretending to be really and truly offended by this. His smile betrayed him, though. " Of course. I mean... look at my teacher. She's a pretty tough lass. " He gave Matty a wink and splashed her back, not so much water as to soak her, but just enough that she could feel it as she lay back down on the board.

The teenager took a few moments to consider Em's question. Considering the forest was located in a Muggle community, she doubted that there was anything too sinister within, along the lines of magic anyway. Matty was aware that the wood provided a great hide-out for criminals or like the such, but she hadn't even been alerted by this fact. There had never been any cases reported to the public about murders hiding and living in the forest, so she was never worried about that kind of thing. She remembered as a child, herself and Daniel, a boy who lived a few minutes away on a grander property, used to play in the forest until dusk. Their parents were never too afraid, for there were only certain places which they thought their children would venture to. But that wasn't the case, for Matty and Daniel had a habit of wandering off into the wood as far as they pleased, the thought never occurring that it would be dangerous for children their age.
The girl shook her head slightly before answering. "Nothing out of the ordinary. It's in a muggle area, so theres nothing more that the odd fierce rabbit here and there. Even at night is really nice," she said, before remembering to add something else. "I remember when I was a kid, me and this other boy who lived near by used to camp out in this tree-house we helped build. In summer, mostly. We used to stay up looking at the stars and talk about what it would be like to be grown up. We thought adults had all the fun, like they had super powers or something." the teenager said with a small laugh at herself. In some aspects, she had been right, in others, she had been totally mislead at that age. She did miss Daniel from time to time, but Matty was so happy at Hogwarts on the other hand.
When Em played that he had been offended by her comment, the girl continued to grin. She knew that he wasn't serious, and he knew that of her. They could both be a bit of a dork, at times, but only when they were with each other. With his following statement, Matty felt small droplets of water spilling on her back. The girl removed her arms, paddling back closer to Emeric. Now that she was alongside him, the girl far from him at all now, but there was enough space to let him keep balanced without feeling smothered. "Tough, huh? Good point. I think I could be tougher than you, even." Matty remarked, resting her head on one of her arms, letting her closest one to Emeric stay drifting in the water.

Em wiggled his fingers lightly in the water, bending slightly as he inched forward along the board, trying his hardest not to alarm himself and end up flipping over. He didn't mind getting wet in the least, he just didn't want to look a fool in front of Matty. He slowly stretched out along it, and after a couple minutes of slow deliberate movements, he ended up laying on his stomach, propped his head up with a hand as he looked at Matty, a somewhat confident smile on his face as if he was saying, ' Look. No falling. '
He had almost forgotten that Matty grew up in a muggle neighborhood until the girl made mention of it. " A tree house? That's mighty ambitious of you. " He said with a laugh as he let his arms fall on both sides of the board and into the water, swishing them around. There was something particularly nice about his body remaining above the water on the surfboard, and stretching out his limbs to touche the water lightly. He wondered if she ever saw her friend outside of Hogwarts. Or if he was muggle, too, and knew about Matty's abilities.
He moved his head off to the side slightly, looking down into the dark water. As the only light provided was from the moon, stars and fire, he couldn't see much as he looked into the depths of the water. He could feel it moving, though, a steady constant motion. He looked up to see Matty paddling closer to him and wondered if she was thinking of revenge... It didn't look like it, but he grinned at her all the same. " Tougher than me? I dunno... That'd have to be pretty tough. " He said, propping his head up once again with one hand, the other touching Matty's hand in the water. He wiggled his fingers against hers, smiling a small sort of smile.

Matty's green eyes watched with amusement as the boy began to slide forward, in attempt to lay as she was. The girl had to admit that she was actually kind of proud of him. There was allot of muggle aspects that leaked into Matty's life at Hogwarts, ones that she, and most of her friends were very familiar and common with. Emeric hadn't gown up in the same environment, and he had accepted allot of these new muggles things in her life rather smoothly. He hadn't shown to been one of those people that hated all muggle contraptions or methods yet, and Matty was believing that he wouldn't prove to be one of those people. Though he may prefer the magically based way of life, Em had been very accepting of things from muggle music, to surfing, as she had discovered tonight. So, it was safe to say that she was impressed when he managed to lay flat as she was, and the teen rewarded him with a smile.
"A tree house? That's mighty ambitious of you." Matty laughed softly in reply to this, nodding. "Well, I'm not certain I helped build it as much as our dads did. I'm pretty sure I just bossed everyone around." the Hufflepuff admitted, the laugh still evident in her voice. Though she didn't remember the entire course of building the tree house, the girl would remember some parts. She had helped paint it, of course, and nailed in a few boards. But mostly Daniel and herself had run around, delivering nails and wood to their fathers, who had mainly built the tree house. But it had been fun, and whenever Matty went home, she was sure to pay a visit to the tree forte, regardless of the season or such.
When Em commented on her being tougher than him, the girl smirked slightly."Never underestimate a Hufflepuff." she stated, her voice teetering on teasing. Emotionally... well, Matty had no idea how strong she was compared to him, but it was fairly obvious that the boy would be stronger than her physically. Feeling his fingertips mingle with hers, the teen made equal efforts to play with his hand. The whole atmosphere was so relaxed, so surreal. Then a thought occurred to the girl. They were both on the road to telling each other about their life, and so the question arose in Matty's head, as it had before. She didn't know what the boy's reaction, or his answer would be like, but she hoped it wasn't anything overly negative. So a soft approach was necessary. "Hey Em?" the girl said softly, letting one of her fingers gently link with one of his.

He hadn't died, fell off, been bit by a ' not so real ' critter and hadn't been stung by anything. He hadn't done anything too bad to embarrass himself in front of Matty. He was sure the girl knew he wasn't exactly Mr. Suave, but he tried his best and falling off a surfboard just wouldn't do. Even if he had never been on one in his entire life. He felt a small surge of pride in himself as he relaxed a little more on the board, finding small comforts in the way it rocked slightly in the small waves. He could have drifted off if there wasn't such a good reason for him to stay awake.
' I'm pretty sure I just bossed everyone around. ' He turned his head, giving a light laugh as she said this, a look of great amusement overcoming his face. " So.. you were one of those types, huh? " He accused her with a sly smile. Really he knew that all little girls tended to be bossy. It was just how things were. Matty wasn't bossy now, though, which proved to Em that she had outgrown it as most girls did. Well, some girls did rather.
His smile turned into a small smirk, ' never underestimate a Hufflepuff, ' she said to him. " I wouldn't dare. " He said, his voice suggesting that he was outraged that she would even think of him doing something like that. Or being capable of doing something like that at all. He looked down to the water again, still wiggling and moving his fingers around hers. " Yeah? " He asked, thinking he ought to look up, from her tone of voice as she said his name. His hand stopped moving so much as he swung their now connected hands in a small arc under the water. His eyes met her green ones and he smiled slightly, wondering what it was about.

The Hufflepuff nodded again when Emeric accused her of being one of 'those' kind of kids. At a younger age, she defiantly had been, which was okay, because Daniel let her boss him around. He never complained or tried to equally boss her about, he just went with the flow. Now that she thought of it, Matty wondered when that had stopped. She wasn't bossy now... was she? The girl hoped not, but then again, she wasn't one to let people walk all over her either. "Mhm, that was me. And when I wasn't bossing people around, I was running a muck. I must have been such a... difficult child." Matty admitted with a small laugh. It was probably true, too.
The teenager's face had a look of success pass over it when Em claimed that he wouldn't every underestimate a Huflepuff. It amused her, but proud to a Huffle. In the past, the girl was aware that many people over-looked the Badgers, as being the clumsy or dull group, but really, they were regarded as the loyal house. These days, there weren't many Huffles around that people hated. To Matty, the yellow house was the one that most people got along with without much effort. Or so she liked to think, anyway.
When their eyes met, the girl's grin had now died down to a simple smile. She didn't want to break, or ruin the mood, but she feared that another calm and collected moment may not arise tonight. She had no doubts that one may... but just in case, while they were on this kind of subject track. Her hand in his gave Matty the extra little motive to pursue what she was going to say. "Whats your family like back home?" she asked in the same soft voice she had before. Matty was aware that Em didn't talk about his family that often, and there must have been a valuable reason behind that. But, she was curious to know more of his background.

He willingly gave another soft chuckle, knowing that it really wasn't Matty's fault that she was like that as a small child. He had a firm belief that you couldn't really be held responsible for anything done, whether it be clothing or actions, if you were under the age of eleven or twelve. Thirteen and fourteen, though, there were no excuses. " Don't seem so difficult now. " He muttered to her with another laugh. He couldn't really imagine her being all that bossy, because she never had with him. Unless, of course, she was only bossy when no one was around. Which wouldn't make much sense, as there would be no one around for the to be bossy to.
He leaned his head over the board and caught a glimpse of his reflection in the moon lit waters. His hair was looking a bit more fuzzy than usually, as it wasn't slicked down or styled in any way, and his eyes looked a bit brighter. He didn't know what it was from, but he didn't feel any stinging from the water that he had previously been swimming in as was now floating on top of. He took his free hand and attempted to ruffle his hair back into a slightly more normal appearance. He sighed, his attempts were worthless and all for naught as the Slytherin's hair was determined to remain as frazzled looking as before.
He had to remind himself not to be too vain, turning his head back and looking at the girl, giving a small smile as he waited for her to ask him whatever was on her mind. ' Whats your family like back home? ' He hadn't been expecting that, though, and as she asked, he shrugged his shoulders, not saying much of anything at first. That was a baited question, what were they like... He thought about how to answer. " They're... " He couldn't even think of words to describe his family. Manipulative? Persuasive? Unkind? " Different. Loud. " He said, wincing slightly as he said the last word. He hoped it wasn't too noticeable to her. " They're family, I mean... " He said, still struggling to find words to talk about them.

Matty's thoughts trailed off about being a troublesome child. Really, she hadn't been a 'little blood sucker' as some kids were described as today, but she just couldn't sit still. Being jumpy and full of life was one of the characteristics she shared with her present self, and her past self, which was normal enough. Mainly it was in her younger years, before the age of seven. After wards had been the time when the Wentworth girl had settled down, and matured more to her age. Since then the girl had kept a cooler, collected mind, which were well explained by reasons Emeric probably wasn't aware of yet. "Lucky for you." she stated playfully to his comment.
As the mood changed, Matty could help but feel slightly uneasy. She had no idea what his reaction would be like, and so the teen didn't want to push him too far. The girl just wanted to better understand where Em was coming from, and what the other parts of his life were like. She could judge by his answer, though, that this subject wasn't the smoothest of subjects. She gave one slow nod. Matty rubbed her thumb softly against his hand, in a reassuring way to him, to signify that he could put trust in her, if he could go that far. "Do you have any brothers or sisters?" she asked softly, feeling as if she had to move on. Matty was beginning to scratch the surface, and she was aware that it seemed uncomfortable to him. Perhaps this hadn't been such the greatest idea to pick up on, but all the same, it was going to come up sooner or later.

He was still running through a list of everything his family was. Slightly insane, a little delusional, extremely controlling. Despite all of it, though, Emeric knew they meant well for him. He had to uphold the family name, establish himself in the wizarding world as his father and father's father had done before him. And as if that really wasn't enough, he also had to grow up and be a teenager at the same time. It was no wonder Em had trouble really trusting people. He turned his head, looking away from Matty. Not because he didn't want to look at her, he just didn't feel like talking about it.
Siblings, though, he could talk about. Parents, or rather his father in general, he would be more careful on. He nodded his head, " Yes. I have a younger brother, Jonathan. He's... " the Slytherin had to pause as he thought about how much younger Jon was than him. " Four years my junior. And a pain. " He said with a worry free grin, trying to make the topic of family a little less awkward for him. He felt the light touch of Matty's thumb against his own and shifted his hand slightly, getting used to the feeling of it. It was soothing, and strange but felt nice to him all the same. " What about... your family? " He asked, although he was pretty positive he already knew the answer. Her step mother and brother, and her father. He wanted her to keep talking, though, so he wouldn't have to.

She was glad that when Emeric did answer her question about siblings, a smile graced his face. Honestly, she hated making people uncomfortable, even if it was intended to be for a good cause. Now, however, Matty could see that the Slytherin wasn't comfortable talking about his family, or rather, his parents. She was aware that not everyone got along with their folks, and there was always a reason behind that. Some people allowed the reason to sip easier than others, but Matty respected the fact that some liked to keep it under the surface. So, she didn't push Em any further. After all, to gain his trust this far was a real break through.
"So he's ten, then? Do you think he'll come to Hogwarts?" she asked him. Matty knew that his family were pure blood, and so there was a great change Jonathan would attend Hogwarts, but she asked anyway. "What about your family?" The girl's eyes drifted from his to the sky for a moment, and back. "Well as you know, theres my step brother, Jamie. He's the one I was hiding from he day we met." she said with a small grin, her mind briefly brushing over that afternoon. "Then theres Ellie, my step-mum, and my dad, Cedric." Matty stated simply. She was wondering whether or not to go on, but the girl did. "My mum passed away when I was seven, she was a flying-aid Doctor." the Hufflepuff said, her smile faltering a little. She was okay with talking another her mother these days, for Matty had learned to accept and move on by now.
