It had been two weeks. Two weeks since Em had been able to hang out with Matty and to keep her close.
He wasn't obsessed, but whoever first said ' absence makes the heart grow fonder, ' he could feel their pain. Finally there was a break in his schedule, and hers. They were both on their house quidditch teams, Matty the captain of hers, and they both had lessons and homework to attend to. The fact that they had a lot of classes together actually didn't help, it was a constant reminder that he had to control himself while in her presence. No, he wasn't about to jump on her or anything, but it would have been nice to get to talk to her a bit more during classes. So he had sent her a note in the morning mail. The note was short and obviously to the point.
Emeric made his way up to the north tower at six forty five, fifteen minutes before the time they were supposed to meet up. He was still in his Hogwarts uniform, pressed black slacks with nice black dress shoes, and a white long sleeved button down shirt underneath a green vest. His tie was kept neatly unerneath his vest, the cuffs on his shirt unbottoned and his sleeves were pushed up to his elbows. The sound of footsteps could be heard on the landing of the tower as Em walked around, waiting for Matty. He was excited to get to hang out with her again without the pressures of being found out. Even though the relationship was kept secret, Em didn't regret it in the least. It was hard for him, but he knew the results would be worth it.
Emeric turned his back to the stairwell, leaning against the windowsill and looking out the glass window. The grounds were still covered in snow and Em spotted a couple of people rolling around in the snow. He was tempted to laugh out loud but let a smile work its way onto his face instead.

The teenager hadn't exactly been expecting it, but it came as a nice surprise. It had been two weeks since Matty had been alone with Emeric, and she could defiantly admit that she didn't find that so hot. But they were coping, in classes and such, though that was mostly because of the fact that they were both so busy. Matty being in her fifth year with OWLs coming up soon, and Em having his various things to attend to, it all added up to them spending more time apart that either of them at anticipated at first. But the girl was both relieved and happy when she received the Slytherin's note in her morning mail.
Once all her classes for the day had finished, Matty had to occupy herself for a couple more hours. She didn't bother to change out of her uniform, consisting of black slip on shoes, charcoal stockings, a gray pleated skirt, white button up shirt, tie, and a gray cardigan. her hair was let out, slightly wavy, though her fringe was French-braided to the side. For the next hour or so, the fifth year finished off her Herbology essay, and wrote out her Astronomy notes more clearly for the next class. Once it was ten to seven, the Hufflepuff packed away her study gear and made her way up to the northern tower.
When she arrived, the teenager already found the Slytherin there. Hopefully he hadn't heard her coming, as he back was turned to the stairwell entrance to the tower. Matty quietly made her way behind him, before covering her hands over his eyes. "Guess who." Matty stated, somewhat childishly. It was obviously her, for who else would it be?

His interest in the people slowed as the picked themselves up and made to walk towards the castle. He shrugged slightly, his eyes glancing around the grounds to look for anything else of interest. He spotted a group of kids walking around, but he couldn't read their expressions as they were rather far away. He watched them for a while, wondering what they were doing. It was already rather dark which made it even harder for Emeric to see what they were doing. He shrugged his shoulders, and just as he was about to turn around, he felt a pair of hands slide over his eyes and impairing his vision.
He couldn't see her, but the familiar voice, and the fact that someone would do that alone made him grin. He hadn't even heard her walk up the steps to the tower, so he welcomed her announcing her presence in an unusual manner.
" If this isn't Matty Wentworth, then I might have a slight problem with it. " He said, his voice teasing. He would actually have a big problem with it, but he felt the urge to tease and jest with her. He lifted her hands off from over his eyes, let them go and turned around, taking her hands in his own again. " Just slight, though. " He said with a smile as he laced his fingers with hers, his palms pressed lightly against hers. It felt good to be standing close to her again, two weeks was in fact a long time to go without something like this. Someone like her.

"If this isn't Matty Wentworth, then I might have a slight problem with it." She resisted the urge to laugh at this teasing comment. The teenager was aware of Emeric's playful ways, and knew that if she kept cool and mysterious, it would put a better effect on the situation. Though this idea collapsed when the boy took his hand off his eyes, turned to face her, and entwined their hands again. Now, she grinned at him, unable to keep the happy expression off her face as she looked at him. Honestly, Matty had missed hanging out with him thought the two weeks they hadn't been able to meet up. Over time the teenager had only realized that she was growing fonder and fonder of him. Em was growing on her, at the least.
At his second comment, the Hufflepuff raised her eyebrows in amusement, as she usually did. "Well I'm glad it is me then," she stated, before taking a step closer to him, tilting her head upward a bit. "I wouldn't want any other girls kissing you, would I?" Matty teased, her gaze still locked with his, as she tempted him with her words. The Hufflepuff felt so relaxed standing here now. She didn't have to hide the fact that Emeric and her were involved from anyone, she didn't have to hold back from wanting to hold his hand, or be close to him. And most of all, she didn't have to frame her words before she spoke, as to not lead onto anything in front of anyone. Just being with him right here, right now, was a great feeling in itself.

It was easy to fall back into the step of things from the way it had been at the shrieking shack, easy to tease and keep a playful banter continuing between them, it was easy to just stand there with her. It made it worth the difficult part of being away from her. During the week Em had recieved a letter from his parents, asking about the normal things they talked about, absolutely nothing. It hadn't fazed Em to brush off their questions of his love life and if he and Tal were ' together ' yet. He didn't write back much, only asking questions about his father instead, something he knew the man would find annoying.
Emeric was taken back into the moment by the Hufflepuff's amused look, forgetting thoughts about his father and Tal. He nodded his head at her first comment as if to say, ' Me too. ' He was glad that it was her, rather than some other girl. He didn't think he would be as happy if things had worked out differently and someone else was in the girl's place, stepping closer to him and continuing on. " I don't think I would want any other girls kissing me, either. " He responded, his voice just above a low murmur as he leaned down and placed a kiss on the girl.
She was a tease to him in the worst way and he was sure she was aware of it, too.

The fact of the matter was that Matty was finding each day both easier and harder. The lessons together were becoming easier to handle, as the teenager was now finding it allot simpler to hold back from doing or saying anything to Emeric in a way that more than a friend would. Seeing each other briefly in between classes made up for it sometimes, as Matty could send him a smile without it looking too suspicious when passing by. Friends did that, right? The harder part of these situations was the fact that she did like spending her free time with Em, and lately that hadn't been able to happen, for there was no free time. Though, that was put aside for this evening, as one could tell.
When Emeric returned conforming words, Matty continued to smile. As he leaned down and kissed her, the teenager's insides seemed to glow. His hand in hers was one thing, but his kiss was another. As she deepened the kiss a little, though nothing too strong, the girl gently took her hand from boys, and let it rest at the back of his neck, caressing it lightly. This really made up for all those lessons, all the glances, all those brief meetings and secret smiles, and all those times that the two had been apart.

Before making the trip up the many flights of stairs to the tower, Em had promised himself that this wouldn't be the only thing they would do. Sure, kissing Matty felt like one of the greatest things in the world, but he did want to talk to her about things, how her week had been going, how the Hufflepuff team was fairing under their new, young captain. His promise to himself slowly melted away as he felt her hand resting lightly at the back of his neck, his own hand falling down to the small of the girl's back, pulling her just slightly closer as she deepened the kiss.
Em pulled away slightly, leaving a centimeter or two of space between them, his eyes landing on hers a second he felt a smirk tug on his lips in a playful manner as he closed the space between them with a lighter kiss that only lasted a few seconds before he pulled away once again. He gave a low hum as he looked at Matty, his eyes reflecting his happiness. " Hm, so how've you been for the past two weeks? " He asked. Even though the kiss had ended, he didn't move too much away from the girl, finding it comfortable standing close to her.

The day at the Shrieking Shack had played through Matty's head a number of times, and the teenager had a feeling that this evening may have the same effect. But as she was too involved in the current situation, the teenager wasn't concentrating on that much. As she felt Em place his hand on her back, pulling her in a little closer, Matty allowed herself to be. The Slytherin was such a temptation to her, and she gave in almost every time. When they did break away, a smile graced her lips, which were then kissed by Emeric's softly again. Everything seemed to be perfect for the moment.
As they remained where they were, Matty listened to the boy's words. She gave herself a moment to reply, her left hand still around his neck, her other hand laced in his. "Mmm, I've been alright. Just busy with homework and Quidditch, as I'm sure you know." the girl answered softly, her gaze landing on his eyes. Who would have thought that same boy in a London Market was standing with her now? It just showed how different impressions were to actual knowledge of a person. "How about you?" Matty asked, curious to how his past weeks had been.

Em turned his head just so, looking down at Matty with his smile still securely on his face in memory of the kisses they just shared. He resisted the urge to sigh, it was too perfect. He was glad he had waited all this time to hang out, now that he was spending time with her it was worth it. He was getting used to this, being with someone and not having to say something pretentious or condesending or mean at all. It was a bit of a change for him, but he didn't want to be any of these things with Matty. He wanted to be nice and caring, sweet even. He was shocking the hell out of himself these days.
He nodded his head as he heard Matty's response to his inital question. He understood, because he had mostly been doing the same things as well. It was a bit monotonous, lessons, practice, lessons and practice. The days seemed to melt together after a while because there was nothing to really make them stand out in his mind. Spending time with Matty was something to remember. " Same, really. Charlie's been kicking it into high gear after that last match against Ravenclaw. Guess I joined up just in time. " He had joined right after the match against Ravenclaw, finding it extremely painful to watch. If the team went down this time around, Em hoped it would at least be by a smaller margin of points. " How's quidditch been for you? " He asked, knowing Hufflepuff had faired better. Much better.

Matty knew that this was worth the time that they had waited out to see each other. As Emeric was thinking, the long time spent apart only made both teenagers value and enjoy their time together more so than a normal relationship would. It also seemed to test them on how far they would go to keep what they had a secret. It was kind of a mark of loyalty, and trust, in Matty's eyes. Despite the fact that they were keeping the truth from others, it came down to respecting each other, and keeping the promise they had made to each other. That and the situation wasn't right for either of the two to tell anyone about their relationship, not yet, anyway.
Matty knew that by Emeric's nod, he understood her situation. His answer to her same question only confirmed that more. The teenager couldn't help but wonder how Charlie was coping. There was the rumor of her having Scales, and if so, Matty felt sorry for her. Being head Girl, in her last year at Hogwarts and being the Quidditch captain would be tough enough, without having a disease like that. But she noted on how he mentioned her kicking into a higher gear, which gave Matty the impression that at least Charlie was coping enough. She continued to smile, and gave him a small nod, referring to his mention about joining in time. "Well, I'm sure Charlie appreciates having a scary Slytherin like you on the team." her compliment was twisted with teasing, for she didn't seriously think that Em was scary, and Matty was certain he wouldn't take it seriously.
When the boy questioned her on her own Quidditch status, the girl replied almost at once. "Stressful. Half the team is sick, and these conditions are dreadful. Last practice had to be canceled because one of my first years almost got blown off his broom." Matty replied, some pain evident in her voice. As much as she loved Quidditch, with the whole buzz of everything, it was proving to be hard to keep up her standards. "Though the win against Gryffindor has proved to be encouraging to the team, which is good." Matty added softly, before a question popped into her mind. "How're you feeling about the upcoming game?" she asked him, curious on his feelings to wards their game against Gryffindor. Match of the year, really.

It was reassuring to Emeric that he and Matty could also hold a conversation well, among other things they did rather well together. The teen thought back on the past two weeks and remembered how strange it had been for him to go without hanging out with Matty, as if they had always hung out with one another. Learning to not rely on other people was something that was proving rather difficult to over come, but with Em it was just a matter of taking it one day at a time. He guessed not being able to constantly be with Matty made it a little less difficult to ease himself into it.
Em's mind strayed a bit, wondering who was still sick on the Slytherin team. He hadn't been sick at all due to the fact that he had had dragon pox when he was seven years old, but a lot of the others on the team hadn't been so lucky. Some of them, he knew, had recovered by now, but others probably hadn't. He was taken back into the present conversation by the girl's comment of, ' Well, I'm sure Charlie appreciates having a scary Slytherin like you on the team. ' He grinned at her, suddenly admiring how his 5'10 frame loomed over her 5'6 one. He knew, of course, that she didn't think he was scary.
" Well, yeah, who wouldn't appreciate it? and I'm sure the Hufflepuffs appreciate having a nice, lovely captain as well. " His brow furrowed in a slight frown as the girl mentioned how things weren't going so well with the Hufflepuff team with illnesses and a stray firstie getting away by the wind. " I think everyone coming down with dragon pox sort of threw everything off a bit with the games and all. The match against Gryffindor, though, that was a good one. " He said, referring to the one Hufflepuff had played against the team as opposed to the one Slytherin was preparing for. " Nervous. " Was his almost immediate reply after hearing her question. He smiled a hesitent smile, mentioning, " I'm not sure how we'll manage. "

"Well, yeah, who wouldn't appreciate it? and I'm sure the Hufflepuffs appreciate having a nice, lovely captain as well." Grinning, due to the fact that he had gone along with her tease, and having complimented her, Matty liked the feeling of falling back into her ways with Em. She liked his sense of humor, for what it was worth, which was a fair amount to her. The teenager wasn't too fond of those who took everything seriously, or those who laughed at everything that could relate to something funny. She would never say something of it, but those kinds of humor senses did annoy her to an extent. His attitude to wards her was really warming to the girl, as well. Emeric was honestly caring and sweet to Matty these days, and his affection was greatly returned by the girl. After a few moments, a reply came to mind, and so she spoke it. "I dunno if I'd want a scary snake on my team. Who knows what would happen. Not only would my players be scared, but I think I may be a little distracted by the fact." she stated, her smile being tugged into a slight smirk.
As Em added to her statement about people being sick, the girl nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you're right about that. I think our game against the Lions was a little before the Pox really broke out, so we were fortunate enough in that case. But thanks, Em." Matty said, a smile now on her face again. The game had really made all of her players more confident that they could win against the other houses. Seanna had done an amazing chase in the last minutes before the snitch was caught, and her chasers and beaters had done a brilliant job as well. Matty was even quite satisfied with her Keeping skills, even though she had managed to be hit a couple of times with the Quaffle and a Bludger while doing so.
When the Slytherin reveled to her that he was actually nervous about the next game, Matty's smile turned into one showing sympathy. If this was his first official game, then the girl could only imagine how nervous he was. The teen had been playing since late in her second year, and her very first game had been simply terrifying. Although he was older, she could understand that Emeric could be nervous about playing, and the game itself. The whole Slytherin vs. Gryffindor thing. She gave his hand a small squeeze though, her eyes continuing to remained glued on his brown ones. "Just give it your all. Thats the core of what all Quidditch Captains want in the end," she said honestly, even though the girl wasn't too sure if thats the way Charlie looked at Quidditch. "But... don't get too badly beaten, okay?" Matty said, a small slit of teeth appearing in her smile.

Her looks were rather distracting, her stray freckles here and there, her smile. It was understandable that Emeric found himself just looking at her. He always returned back to the conversation in the nick of time, though. As for the conversation Emeric was glad to keep it light and full of humor. It was nice after the seriousness of what they had discussed during their time at the shrieking shack, both with their game of truth or dare and afterwards while discussing what to do about everything. Maybe they would get around to a serious conversation about something eventually, but it was just too easy to joke back and forth. His grin was a little bit devilish as he listened to her comment, saying, " I would only be distracting if you wanted me to be. Other than that, there could be some advantages to having a scary snake on your team. "
He nodded at her thanks. He had sat through the game, as he had most other games played at Hogwarts, just for the fun of it. " Oh, yeah? " He said rhetorically as he thought back and remembered that, as Matty had said, the Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor game had occurred just before the pox outbreak. " Well then good luck. Hope your mates aren't all sick. " He said, scrunching up his nose slightly as he said the word ' sick. ' He was incredibly glad that he hadn't re-gotten the pox, they had been bad enough for him the first time around.
Without even realizing it Emeric had put a lot of pressure on himself about this game, pushing himself during practices as much as he could. He was stressing about it, as any new player would. It was his first time playing on a convential team as opposed to the games he would get into with his mates over the summer break. ' Just give it your all. Thats the core of what all Quidditch Captains want in the end, ' He had to admit that her words were reassuring. No wonder she had made Captain of the Hufflepuff team. Her next comment caused him to laugh. " Thanks for your vote of confidence. I sorely appreciate it. "

It was nice to know that Matty could smile and look at Emeric, without a nerves or sense of anxiety filling up inside of her. As her green eyes drifted past the boy's for a few seconds, they were able to take in the grounds and the scene outside. It was past sunset, and so there were very, if any, little colourful rays of the sunset were seen. She could faintly see the a small light from the Groundskeepers Cabin, and the dark outline of the forest stood out against the snow-covered grounds. The night sky was now stroked and spotted with stars, of all different sizes and brightnesses. Really, it was rather a beautiful time to be with Emeric, which only made Matty more grateful for the time she was with him. Once he spoke again, her eyes went straight back to his, unable to let them stray while he was speaking.
His devilish grin amused the teenager, as did his comment. It took her a moment to compile a reply, but she did eventually. "I guess so. Though somehow I don't think having a snake on my team would please many." the Huffle played along as they continued their jesting with one another. It was so easy to slip back into this kind of conversation with Em. Really, she didn't find it hard to talk to him, and there weren't allot of subjects they didn't talk about when they were together. Because the two didn't see each other as often as they liked, or more so as often as other couples did, that gave them more to talk about when the did see one another. So there were pros and cons to their relationship.
Matty followed his suit slightly, and nodded when he wished her good luck, also on her teams behalf. "Ah, I'm sure we'll be fine." she replied confidently. The girl was actually happy that she hadn't made Em sick over the time that she had been. Allot of people had cause the virus from simply being in the same room as another who had the Pox, and so after their day at the Shack, the teenager had been a little worried that she had given the virus to Emeric. Though, as she hadn't been sick for long, it seemed that he hadn't been affected. Really, at that stage all it had been was a sore throat and headaches. These days it was much the same, though she had a dull rash on her stomach, and her headaches and such differed from intense to light. She was on the mend, though.
Once the words had come out of her mouth, Matty didn't realize that they weren't the ones exactly intended, and his comment secured her worried thought. "Thanks for your vote of confidence. I sorely appreciate it." She mentally kicked herself for implying that the Slytherin's, in her opinion, were going to get beaten, when really that wasn't the case. It was a simple slip up, though because of Em's laugh, she was thankful that he hadn't taken it seriously. "Your welcome, though I actually meant to say don't get beaten up too badly. I wouldn't want you turning up to class yellow and blue." she corrected herself, still in a teasing manor.

Em's short laugh echoed slightly throughout the tower as they were the only two people there. " Why not? I don't think I'm too scary. Do you? " He asked, tilting his head down and giving her a pouting look. It wasn't long at all until his grin returned though, finding it difficult to do anything but smile at Matty. He noticed that when she smiled, her eyes seemed to twinkle in the flickering light of the torches that lit the tower. He suddenly got the idea of what would happen if the Hufflepuff and Slytherin quidditch teams joined together. The thought was pretty amusing to him, but he figured the team would be pretty good all the same.
His eyes landed on one of the torches, on the wall just to the left of Matty. He didn't know why, but he watched the shadows and the light flickering on the wall for a second or two before her returned his attention back to Matty.
He nodded his head, thinking the same that Hufflepuff would do fine against Ravenclaw. " Yeah, no worries. I'll probably be there. " He said with a small shrug of his shoulders and a smile. " No pressure, though, " He teased. He would go to watch the match as he did all of the matches at Hogwarts. The fact that Matty would be in the match had nothing to do with it.. really. He wondered who all had gotten sick on the Hufflepuff team. He remember Matty being sick for a while, but he wasn't really close to anyone else on the team and didn't know who else had gotten ill in the past few weeks.
Em gave a small shrug of his shoulders once again as Matty said, ' you're welcome ' and corrected herself. " It's okay. I think I'll be alright. Who knows, maybe blue and yellow would look good on me? " A bit of his vanity was showing through his joking, but he was still doing just that - joking.
