Hogwarts appeared upon the horizon, and Sydney inhaled. The expanse of the castle was nestled between the land and the sky. Sydney had not prepared herself at all, and she was stunned at the instant fury of emotion she had experienced upon first site. This was to be her home away from home. The next seven years would mold her as the witch she was to become. Sydney was scrunched down into a driver less carriage. Her parents hadn't expressed any concern over the fact that nothing was drawing these carriages. Sydney wondered if she was the only sane person in the carriage. At least Nathan and Andrew weren't with them. Her parents had hired a babysitter, to watch the four year old twins. Sydney was relieved, as those two would of been going a mile a minute with questions.
Sydney watched as the carriage came to a stop. She could see people had already arrived for the orientation, and were headed toward the castle. The James family made their way silently to wards the huge doors of the castle. Sydney craned her neck to gaze at the massive entryway as they set foot inside. The inside of the castle was massive and grand, nothing at all like she had pictured it to look like. "See I told you it was awesome!" her father whispered in her ear, giving her a wink. Sydney rolled her eyes. She was determined not to give in to first impressions. So far the impression was good, but the orientation wasn't over yet. She was sure that she could find something to complain about, given the opportunity. Jason and Belinda, lost in memories past didn't notice their daughter's hesitation.
Just inside the door, people were standing about. Sydney gazed solemnly at the crowd, taking in the sights and sounds. "So what do we do?" she asked, looking up at her mother. Sydney had no idea where to go, after all this was the first time she had ever stepped foot in Hogwarts.

"That's what I'm here for!" Drew answered Kopo enthusiasticaly, raising his arms in triumph. For being forced to take part in this, it really wasn't so bad showing new kids around. He saw a few more who looked kind of lost and called over to see if they wanted to join up.
"Hey, I'm starting a show-around if anyone is interested?" he announced, not wanting to steal away the little kids from their respective older students, but willing to let anyone join in if they wanted to. First off, he pointed out the most important room in the castle. "If anyone wants to grab something to eat or drink, we've got stuff in the Great Hall."

Tianne smiled over at the small boy that Matty was stading with. She felt slightly awkward at the fact that she was kind of joining in, but she couldn't really find any other students that needed help. Although Tianne was quite short for her age, she was amazed at the size of all the youngings. She seriously could not remember being that tall, even though it can't have been that long ago. Wow, they breed 'em small nowadays, the prefect thought to herself. She glanced around at a lot of the students, who either had help, or were busy chatting. Was she meant to just walk up and start talking?
Tianne looked around, in search for another first year. She smiled, just as she saw one, a girl, [ Sydney ;D ] who was with her parents. Tianne smiled at the young boy again, and then at Matty, signalling that she was going. She walked over to the young brunette, with a large grin upon her face. "Hi. Welcome to Hogwarts." Tianne said, biting down on her fear of public speaking. She glanced up at the girl's parents and smiled. "I'm Tianne Webster-Barrett. Is there anything you need help with?" Looking back to the boy. Tianne just hoped that the girl had heard her, and knew that she was only trying to be nice.

“ Ravenclaw, eh? You don’t want to be in that lot, do ya? “ He questioned the girl teasingly upon her saying that her mother had been in Ravenclaw. She had said that she didn’t want to be in that house, but there was nothing wrong with a little teasing. The girl seemed nice, and she already knew she wanted to be in Slytherin. Her ambition seemed promising, which Connor thought would be a good characteristic for a Slytherin. Connor took a quick look around to see what the other upperclassmen were up to. Some were still standing about in the small bunch that they had formed, others were chatting with the incoming first years just as he was.
He placed his hands into his pockets as he looked back down to the girl in front of him. “ Lost? Well.. maybe. “ He grinned sheepishly at her and explained, “ I got lost at first, too. But its always helpful to have some friends around. Plus, you’ll get used to it. “ He wanted to add ‘ don’t worry about it, ‘ but felt he was piling advice upon advice.

Kopo nodded and smiled a little. She looked around as he called out, looking to see who would come. "Is the food here good?" She asked him, thinking it would be only as good as the second rate stuff that served for lunch at her old school and doubting that it could be as good as her Mom's cooking. She looked around again, it seemed to her that most of the students had already paired up or with their parents. For a moment she wished that her mom had come with her, but she reminded herself that she would have only gotten in the way since she had never been here either.

"It's pretty decent," Drew answered with a grin, walking backwards over towards the large double doors that led to the Great Hall. He knew that a number of places that served large numbers of people dished up crap three times a day, but Hogwarts was different.
"They got the House Elves here that do all the cooking," he asid, wondering when it was that he had outgrown trying to convince the firsties that there was a swimming pool on the roof of the highest tower. was he actually being responsible. He shuddered internally at the thought.
House elves... "They make some pretty awsome food. I'll nver say it's better than my mom's cooking though," he told the girl. "At least not to her face."

"House elves?" She questioned as she followed him. "What are those?" She was glad to hear that the food was good, she would have not looked forward to coming half as much if he had said the food tasted like mush.
They passed giant hourglasses with the top half filled with colored gems. She had absolutely no idea what they were for but she looked at them with curiosity, speculating what there use might be, before remembering herself and looking back to Drew. There was so much to learn about being a witch, she just hopped that she would be able to keep up with the kids who already knew things about being magic.

Emory shook her head. "No not really... I feel as if I should be a Slytherin." She replied, "But I dunno." She shrugged. Emory looked around. She felt little and scared. Why? She didn't have a clue. Maybe it was because of all the new things she would be encountering. Emory wouldn't be around her friends that she knew since kindergarten. This is horrible! No friends... 'cept this older boy... ahh. curse it.. Emory thought silently. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she merely shook her head to get rid of them and began to think about something else.
Emory sighed. "If I get lost, then I guess I'll get lost." She half smiled. " I have yet to make friends here. So i'll be lost all the time.." She giggled softly. Her girly side was coming out. Emory didn't really like that side, but it was okay for a little bit.

“ Slytherin’s good, you’ll like it there. Plus, you know I’ve heard some rumors that if you ask nicely, you’ll get sorted into the house you reeeaaallly want to. “ Connor wasn’t sure if it was true, but why would the Sorting Hat sort someone into a house they didn’t want to or didn’t feel they belonged to? He wondered if her mother had told her how the sorting process went. And If not, he didn’t really want to spoil it for her.
Connor grinned slightly at the girls giggle, she was cute for a little kid. Little sister cute, if he had had a little sister to refer to. “ Well hey, why don’t we go over there and join Drew in a tour of the castle so you won’t get lost? “ He pointed over towards where Drew was walking with another little firstie towards the Great Hall. He figured it was a good idea, the first year with Drew could meet Emory, and voila, she would at least have one friend in the place. Connor moved in the direction of the Great Hall to follow the older boy and looked back to Emory with a smile on his face.

That was a rather sad answer to the blonde. Chris was eager to leave home, but not really to start school? Then again, with his mum, she didn't really think it would be that hard to want to feel that same way. It was just sad because she would love to be able to stay with her family and attend school at the same time, but she wouldn't say anything, it wasn't her place to.
"Mmhmm," Felicity confirmed with a small hum. Gryffindor, and quite proud of being one, though at times she wasn't sure why she was in the House. "You'll meet a lot of them when you start school," she told him confidently. "In fact, that boy over there," she pointed in Connor's direction, "is a Slytherin and he isn't half bad."
Of course, she didn't really know him, except for the incident in History of Magic, so hopefully she wasn't mistaken.
Laughing, she quickly covered her mouth. "The hat doesn't eat people, it's the squid I've been told to watch for, but even he seems awfully nice. I'm working on getting him to be friendlier, but sometimes he waves at people." Thinking about it, she wasn't really sure why he thought the hat would eat someone. "At the sorting feast last year, all that happened was all of the students sat around and then the first years were brought in and sorted, he were given a speech about things were not allowed to do and then we ate. Nothing too abnormal."
Nothing like January either.

"Oh...." Chris said, half hoping she'd spun some really strange tale about how a kid got eaten by the hat and that other kids had to go into the had and rescue their flustered comrade, whose life would be (and currently was) undeniably changed forever, having been inside of a hat. But none of that came, and the normality of the ceremony, according to Felicity, ruined any chances of being heroic in any way.
"Well, I guess that's good. A little less liability for the school, eh?" Chris said cheerily. He was quickly thinking about the house he wanted to be in. He knew, from what Jerome and Caleb had said, and from what his older step-brothers had taunted him about, that he could be a Slytherin. There was a very good chance of his being a Slytherin based on his blood. But he didn't really want to be in Slytherin - regardless of the chance of being a 'good Slytherin', however taboo that felt or sounded - just because of its legacy of spurning less-than-decent wizards and witches. He thought about his chances in Gryffindor too. It'd be nice to be in that house. It had a legacy of good wizards and witches, not to mention the honourable mention of housing Harry Potter for as long as he had been at the school. But maybe Gryffindor wasn't the place either.
"Which house..." Chris began, figuring that Felicity had seen enough of the sortings to know what the hat would do. "Which house do you think I will be sorted into?" He realised the rediculous and nearly impossibleness of the question, but he figured she could answer on a matter of opinion. After all, it was him and not his mother that was getting sorted.
Mrs. Nagle must've sensed she was being thought about because she huffed and crossed her arms, slinking off to go flirt with some student, probably. Caleb sort of wandered over to a corner in a dazed expression. He looked bugged out, Chris thought. Why is my family so weird? They embarrassed him.

The fact that Kopo didn't know what a house elf was told Drew in no uncertain terms that the girl in front of him wasn't a pure blood. She had probably grown up Muggle if she wasn't fully Muggle born. Drew made a mental note to keep an eye on the small girl once school started up.
"House elves are pretty much like they sound," he told her, lowering his voice slightly, and while it was not so much to be all that noticable, it was enough to make sure he wasn't drawing too much attention to the fact that he was speaking to a Muggle-born. You never knew who was around.
"They're creatures who like helping around the house, cooking, cleaning... stuff like that," he continued, wandering away from the group and noticing no one else seemed to be following. He figured he could give a pretty decent private tour if that was the way it was.

They sounded pretty cool to K.C. if she ever got the chance she would defiantly have to get one to bring home so it could do her chores. She noticed how he lowered his voice a little and had absolutely no idea why but thought it would be better not to ask why. "Well they sound pretty cool." She said, also following his lead not speaking to loudly. "So what other cool creatures and stuff do I have to look forward to?" She asked, laughing a little. She really was starting to look forward to attending Hogwarts.

Drew grinned, glad she was asking questions he could answer. "When you're a third year, you'll get the opportunity to take Care of Magical Creatures," he told her. "The professor has some pretty cool creatures there and she's usually okay with kids going to visit them even if they aren't in her class, as long as they don't mess around."
"We also have the squid in the lake," Drew told her, even though people rarely believed it existed until they actually saw it for themselves. "For the most part, he's pretty gentle. I've been in the lake a bunch of times and I've never had a problem, but the squid once ate a Hufflepuff who tried to surf him, so don't do that." Again, no one ever believed Drew on that one, but the Ravenclaw had been there when it happened.

Though Kopo didn't believe him about a squid eating somebody she still listened to the warning. She definatly wouldn't be trying to surf it or do anything else to it for that matter. She was just about to say something when they past a painting. She did a double take as it. She watched it for a moment before exclaiming softly, "Whoa! That painting is moving." Then she realized that if this was a very common occurrence in the wizard world she must sound quite silly. She blushed and quickly added, "I mean...uh, that's...um, a cool painting." She nearly winced at how lame it sounded.
