The greeting came from a petite looking, dark headed girl. Sydney gave the girl a once over, and saying hello after a few minutes. Of course her parents had immediately smiled at the girl, and began in on a long trip down memory lane. Belinda was asking what house the young girl was in, but Sydney piped in. After all this was her orientation, "Yeah, so I'd like to know what house you are in? Tianne? That's a strange name, but it suits you." Sydney was never one to sugar coat anything. She always said what was on her mind, even if the other person didn't necessarily want to hear it.
Sydney noticed Tianne look back at some boy, and she followed her gaze. Well if you don't want to be here, she thought. Syd's arms were now crossed over her chest, and she had a fierce looking expression on her face. One eyebrow was raised haughtily as she studied Tianne something or other. "So can we take a tour?" she prompted, as she was extremely tired of just standing around. Sydney hated these formal type events, she'd much rather be doing some exploration of her own. Perhaps even getting into some small kind of mischief.

"Yeah, they do that," Drew answered with a smile that was neither mocking nor condescending. It did, however, always throw him for a bit of a loop when he realized not every witch and wizard grew up taking this kinds of things as common, every day ocurrances. It was people like Kopo that made him remember the responsibilities his magicalness brought.
"We have ghosts too, just to warn you," he told her, waving to the portrait which waved back jovially. "They like to show up at the Sorting feast and freak out the new kids."

The disappointment on the boy's face was almost heartbreaking, but Felicity couldn't really lie to him either. There wasn't anything hugely grande that happened, it was just a simply ceremony. Putting on a hat and listening to it. Though, it was right frightening hearing the hat speak in her ear and she was still convinced it was only in her mind that it happened. The idea of a hat speaking was just downright silly, though it did call out which House to put a person into. However, he seemed to lighten up quickly enough. He actually reminded her of her, able to bounce back quickly. Though, as of late she'd been less likely to bounce back as quickly as that, she'd have to work on it.
The question surprised her. Which House did she think he'd be in? Well, she didn't rightly know, no one really knew. Drew once told her he thought it was a matter of asking, but that sounded all too simple. If it were really that simple, then why did they have to be sorted by a hat? It was a good question.
"Well..." she trailed off, thinking. "I'm not entirely sure. No one can be until they're sorted properly. I mean, I never really knew too much about the Houses before being sorted, only that my mum was in Hufflepuff. And I'm a Gryffindor, so I guess it doesn't have to go by your family. But Drew, that's him over there," Felicity pointed to the tall Ravenclaw who was meandering away. "His sister was in Ravenclaw and now his cousin's in that House with him, so it can go by family too."
It was hard to explain.
"I've been told each House value different things. Ravenclaws are more likely to like studying," though that was entirely true, Drew didn't always like studying. "And Gryffindors are supposed to be brave," but why then hadn't she been in January? "Hufflepuffs are kind of more loyal to those they're close to," and she hadn't seen a mistake there yet. "And Slytherins, they have an odd humor." That was all she had to say about them.

"Thanks for telling me," Kopo said, she would defiantly have been quite surprised if a ghost had just appeared next to her. She was not entirely sure she believed him - moving paintings was close enough to movies for her to accept but ghosts were something else entirely. If there were ghosts then she would be prepared and if there weren't, then no harm done other than perhaps looking gullible in front of the older boy. She tore her eyes away from the painting - there would be enough time for gawking later on - and continued to follow Drew. "So, how hard are the classes here? I mean do all the classes load you up with homework or more are most pretty light on the work?" She knew it probably varied from person to person and class to class but she wanted to get all the information about the school as she could - only problem was she didn't know what questions to ask."

Drew grinned as the girl asked questions, thinking she sounded like a Ravenclaw, wondering about classes. The thought of the profs possibly going easy made him smirk a little though.
"They like the loading you up option most often," Drew answered, heading towards the staircase. "We have a few who take it easy on the stuents, but they tend to not know what they're doing. For the most part, the professors are really tough, but they know their stuff. And you really have to watch out for the ones who play favorites. You can't get a fair shake with most of them."

She listened to him, almost a little disappointed - she was hoping that the work would be easy - but also a little glad at the same time. Hard classes meant that she would probably actually be learning stuff, which was always good. She hated to be a teachers pet but she would be ready to kiss butt if she noticed a teacher that seemed to be playing favorites. If that’s what it took to get a good grade then so be it.
“So I guess its not just going to be an easy ride then.” She laughed and was silent because she couldn’t think of anything else to say.

"Nope, no easy ride," Drew answered with a friendly smile, knowing it was the easy profs who tended to be the worst teachers. "But that's not such a bad thing. Plus, you get in a good house, and you'll have people to help you out." She had already expressed an interest in Ravenclaw, and Drew made a mental note to make sure she got a hand with classes even if she didn't get into his house.
"So... what else do you want to know? Anything in particular you wanted to see?" he asked, figuring they could go just about anywhere other than the Houses themselves. That would have to wait until after sorting.

"Hmmm...Well, I'm not sure..." K.C. said slowly, she really should have drawn up a list of questions on the ride over. "Are there any places that you think I wouldn't discover on my own or just places I need to know." She had asked about the classes, about the food, and about house elves, what else was there to ask about? "Or like, are there lots of clubs?" She asked, that was the only thing she could thing of. She hoped there was lots of extracurricular activities for her to get involved in, unless there was to much homework, then she wouldn't have time.

Drew gave her another smirk. "Tons of places like that," he told her. Heck, he hadn't even found all of the secrets the castle held. "We could spend a whole day on secret passages and rooms and still not hit everything."
"But stuff you should know... Watch out for the staircase going down to the dungeons. Every so often a step or two likes to disappear. And you can only use the north end of the fifth floor hallway on Tuesdays. I'm still not sure what happens to it the other six days."
"Clubs we have, but the most popular extra activity is Quidditch," he told her, pretty sure she wouldn't know what that was. "It's the biggest wizarding sport around and every year, we have a pretty decent contest for the cup."
