Drew gave a low, nervous little laugh when Felicity put her arms around him, making him realize they were actually alone. Out of the house, no chaperone, hours to themselves. It was a silly thing to thank him for. He didn't have much of a choice if he wanted to see her, did he?
"It wasn't so bad," he told her and now that it was over, he realized it could have been a lot worse. He had heard of one guy who had been asked to submit a urine sample before taking the daughter out.
"Your dad is scary though," he told her with another small laugh and he took her hand and placed it on his chest. "Jacob was givng me the evil eye too. My heart is still beating, see?"

When he took her hand and placed it on his chest, she found it amazing how warm she felt. It was as though she were still inside her home, now fear of frostbite whatsoever.
"Dad isn't really that bad, I warned you before about how my parents were. My mum was being pretty nice though, I've seen her turn on some of the guys my sister's brought home before, when I was little. And Jacob...well, he's just...he thinks of me as his sister, and thinks I still need help with things," she replied, not willing to ruin the precious time they had by explaining she wrote to him about the 'incident' by the lake.
"And yes, I can fel your heart is still beating, and I'm pretty sure that's good," she grinned at him. Actually, she rather liked it, feeling his heartbeat, especially when she knew hers was rather rapid in speed at that moment. The two together were fascinating.

"It means I survived!" Drew answered with quite a bit of pride in his voice and he raised both hands over his head in victory. There had been a few moments there that he hadn't been very sure he would, positive that any moment, Mr. Hjort would toss him out the door and into the snow on his bum.
It made him think about what had happened earlier in the week and he wondered if he should ask her how it had gone with the other boy who had taken her out to the festival.

"I didn't have doubt that you would pull through," she smiled at him as she withdrew her hand. Actually, she herself had thought for a moment that she wouldn't have blamed him if he decided to up and leave her there, not to even speak to her again. Thankfully though, he hadn't. It would've been more than disappointing had he of.
People were bussling back and forth, going and coming, making their way to their destination, and yet Felicity wasn't sure she actually wanted to make it to their own destination quite yet, to where they were bound to bump into someone one or the other knew. And besides, she had a promise to fulfill before arriving to the Leaky Cauldron, and she was definitely keeping her word on that.

Drew thought his accomplishment was a big deal, paramount to rescuing the princess from the castle and he couldn't help but start up his happy dance. Not that he thought Felicity's dad was an evil ogre or anything, but still, Drew imagined it was probably just as difficult getting her out of there.
"So what do you want to do?" he asked, his giddiness over the open posibilities making it impossible to stop either his dancing or his grinning.

Grinning, she watched the people around them start to give wide berth, seeing Drew dancing in the walk as it were. In reality, she wasn't giving much of her attention to them, but kept her focus on the boy, those around them were merely blurred figures, she just happened to notice the difference of space they gave.
What did she want to do? What didn't she want to do? Of course, she'd been to the Festival once already, and there'd been a few things she'd missed out on, but she was unwilling to miss them this time. Then there were other things she'd like to see and do again, and of course what he wanted to do.
"I want to do a lot things," she grinned at him. "At the Festival though, I want to hear the different music again, and I want to dance, I want to see the skills they show off, I want to taste the food they have available, I want to see the people walking through the snow, singing and laughing, enjoying themselves in the winter weather."
There was a lot more to the things she wanted to do, but that was a short list. A hint that she wanted to dance with him while there, and just walk around and see everything. While it wasn't as though she had a lot of time, they had a fair few hours and could do quite a bit in that time.
"But first," she smiled shyly at him. And while the cold still nipped at her nose, she once more felt a wave of heat spread over her. "I'd like to thank you."

Drew nodded happily as she rattled off her list, thinking he could work with what she wanted to do. "The good light show starts at 8, so we'll miss that, but we can catch the early one at 6:30," he suggested. "It's not as big, but it's still pretty cool."
She smiled up at him and just the way her eyes met his made the butterflies in his stomach do a series of nervous backflips. "Thank me? For what?" he asked too excited to remember what she had promised back at the house.

So perhaps she was being a burden. It wasn't as though she didn't want to stay past eight, but her parents wouldn't hear it, they'd been firm on that rule with her, though she didn't entirely understand why when the curfew had never been set that early for her sisters, then again she wasn't them. "Six thirty's good," she replied, trying not to feel like a little child because of the earliness of it. Really, she'd seen people younger than her out past eight o'clock, it really just wasn't fair. "I liked it last time."
It'd been fun with Lucas, she'd gotten to do pretty much every major highlight with the boy, and she wasn't disappointed, but she couldn't say the same about being there with Drew. She wanted to do what she could with him, if he wanted to do something, but she couldn't help but feel like a young child because of the situation. On the other hand, he hadn't gone away yet, so maybe he really didn't mind that much.
"For what? Have you really forgotten?" she asked teasingly. "I want to thank you for your present, silly. If you'd don't mind," she added, wondering if he'd said it like that because he wasn't keen on the people around them.

"Oh... yeah, I don't mind..." he answered with a small smile, trying not to let the sinking feeling he was getting overtake him. She had mentioned 'last time' again and he had done a pretty good job ignoring it before, but it was getting harder. He knew she had already come with Lucas and the more he thought about it, the more he didn't like it. He didn't like it at all.
He wasn't even sure why he didn't like it. He had come before, had hung out with friends, so what was the difference?
He knew what it was. It was the fact that Lucas had done it with her first and taken the specialness away. Now Drew was left with trying to compete with 'last time'. Of course they had done all of the cool stuff, leaving him with nothing. Been there, done that.
"We don't have to go see the light show if you don't want to," he told her, wondering if going to the festival all together was a mistake. Who went to a Yule Festival after Christmas anyway?

Felicity was pretty sure he didn't mind, but there was something about the way he said it, the way he looked, that made her think differently. Stepping closer to him, letting her eyebrows knit from concern, she carefully reached up and gently touched his cheek with her gloved hand. It just didn't have the same effect as when she touched his face with the skin of her hand, but it would have to do, it was too cold to de-glove.
"Drew...?" she started, wondering if she'd done something wrong again. Why did it seem one or the other seemed to do something wrong everytime they got to spend time together, thankfully it never seemed to be anything big, but it was still concerning. "I want to see the light show again. I really did like it last time I saw it, and I'd like to see one with you, too. I understand if you don't want to see it, we can figure something else out, but I'd like to see it with you."
Actually, she liked to see and do everything she could with him, she loved spending time with him, even when she was afraid of treading in deep waters. Dragging her hand from his face down his arm, to his hand, she slid her fingers through his as well as she could, and squeezed gently. "Is everything all right?"

No, it wasn't, but how did he explain that without sounding like an idiot? How was he supposed to tell her that he had been looking forward to this and had spent hours combing the streets to find things he thought she'd like to see? How could he tell her that he was jealous of some other guy after she had told him it didn't mean anything?
He shrugged at her, not sure how to respond, but the question slipped out before he could stop it. "You had fun last time, huh?" he asked. He wasn't hoping that she had had an awful time, but it would have been nice to know that Lucas had burped in her face or cussed out her dad or something.

"Yes, I had fun with Lucas," she nodded at him. Lucas was a nice boy, she liked to spend time with him, he was a very good friend, and she enjoyed the fact that he seemed to understand she couldn't like him the way he liked her, that he understood she'd made herself unavailable, waiting for Drew to make a decision. And she knew it had to be hard for him, just the things he said sometimes, and the way he looked at her now and then, she didn't think she'd made it very easy to be friends with him, but she really couldn't like him like that.
He just didn't make those butterflies in her stomach do the dangerous, crazy tricks Drew did with just a look. He didn't make her blush with just a smile, for absolutely no reason. There were so many things he just didn't do that Drew did, but he seemed all right with taking a backseat, being her friend. He'd told her he'd rather be her friend than nothing at all, and that's how it was going to be while she waited.
"But I'd like to have fun with you, too," she told him, stepping closer to the boy, with barely any space between them. "Drew this isn't last time. Yes, I had fun with Lucas, I always do, he's interesting to hang out with. But I like spending time with you more."

It made him feel a little better and he managed a small nervous smile, but it still didn't clear everything up for him. No, he didn't want to hear the down and dirty details, but there were some things he thought he needed to know.
"Did he have to do the whole family thing too?" Drew asked, not sure what it would mean one way or the other, but knowing it meant something. "Did your dad give him a hard time too?"

"Well, not the parade. My dad cornered him with questions, like he did you. But he didn't have to meet everyone, my cousins managed to sneak my nephews and nieces out for ice cream so we...he wouldn't have to meet them." What she'd started to say was so that they didn't have to take Freddy with them, that was why they'd gone out for ice cream, but that way he didnt' have to go through the parade either.
"He wasn't happy about the way it went though, I don't think he was very happy with me for it either. But I tried to tell him I wasn't going to be allowed out otherwise. My parents really are a bit protective of me, and even though he really is a friend, nothing more," she insisted, hoping Drew would understand that point, that he himself was the only person in her life that was more.
"And yes, dad gave him a hard time. He made him talk about himself, something he doesn't like doing much, and he made him talk about me, just like with you, and a few other little things. It really wasn't that bad I don't think, but he didn't care much for it."

Drew nodded a bit at this, not exactly sure how to take it all. Had they gone easier on the other boy because he was more trustworthy? Or had they blown him off because he wasn't as important? Drew liked this last thought the best and decided to stick with it.
"A friend... yeah, and that's... that's okay," Drew stuttered out, trying to convince himself more than anything. "I mean... it's not like I'm trying to give you permission or anything... I'm just saying that I have girl friends but... well, not like girlfriends that's just you I mean, they're just friends, right? And we... Charlie, Ari, Jax... we hang out together but it's like... I mean, I really like you so it's different, huh?"
He wasn't quite sure what he had said himself, but maybe she did.
