"No, not in the castle, only when it's too crowded to stay in one spot for long. I do like wandering on the grounds, though. That's usually fun." She continued to keep her eyes ahead of her, for she thought she had heard something, but wasn't quite sure.
As they continued down the stairs, she became more sure they were moving closer to their original destination.

"So you know your way around the grounds fairly well, then?" Charon asked. "Have you ever been in the forest, too?" He glanced over at Rael. Since he noticed that she seemed to be concentrating on something he fell quiet so that she could concentrate better.

Rael heard his question, but wanted to know if she was correct with her thoughts, so stayed silent for a moment. "No, not really. Like the castle, the grounds can be confusing," she said suddenly. "And yes, I have been in the forest." She smiled a bit. She was more and more sure they were finally closing in on their destination.

Charon was curious as to what Rael was so intent on, but didn't want to disturb her. He saw her smile slightly, so he knew it was good. he just didn't know how good, or even why it was good. So he asked, "What are you concentrating on?"

"Listen." One word was all that was needed. Rael allowed her smile to grow even more. She stopped and looked at Charon. "I do believe I hear voices, and their not in my head." Her eyes watched his face to see if he could hear what she heard as well, for she really did think they had found the Great Hall.

Charon listened for a minute and realized what she was talking about. "Oh. And here I thought that I was starting to hear voices in my head. Way to dash a guy's hopes," he said, joking. "But finding the Great Hall works, too. I think that deserves a reward, eh? You can pick from the list, if you want," he added.

She laughed at what he had said. But quickly resolved the laughing at what he said next. She could choose from the list of rewards. She smiled mischievously and looked up at him, she was closer to him than she had thought. What did she want to choose? "How about," she paused a moment. "How about, since I wasn't the only one who found the Hall, as we were both involved the wandering, we both choose something we'd like?" Her face remained turned up toward him, and her smile could also be seen in her eyes. She liked being this close to Charon, it felt nice.

"Ok, but since you know my policy on decisions the only one I'll make is yes or no. You'll have to put forward your choice, and I'll decide whether or not it sounds good to me," Charon replied. He watched Raels face and waited to hear what she would propose.

She pushed her hair back behind her ear, and thought. "Sounds fair. I would like a smile from you, because I'd like to earn the others on your list." She continued to look at him. "And, why not a night of star gazing when the weather is warmer, for you?" Her eyes continued to smile with the rest of her. She realized, again, she had set herself up perfectly for something, and half hoped he would take the chance.

Charon granted Rael's first request immediately, and said, "You got your smile, and I'm sure you'll get many more. And I think I'll agree to a night of stargazing."
As he looked at her, he felt a slight sensation of deja vu, and understood why. Just like before, she was positioned perfectly for a kiss. He didn't know whether to take the cance or not. He rationalized that they were "officially" going out now, but he still thought it was early in the ralationship for him to make such a move, and he really didn't know how she'd respond. he decided to just hold his position, and let her make the move if she noticed and wanted to.

Rael was satisfied with the answer she received, and her grin showed it. "Good, because you were going to agree anyway." She watched his face for any acknowledgment of their positioning, and thought she had seen the confirmation in his eyes, but wasn't sure as he did nothing. A part of her was relieved, and yet another disappointed. She knew she couldn't always get what she wanted, and knew that somethings were meant to be left for later.
Rael stepped forward to continue down the stairs, but changed her mind and abruptly turned to face him. She stared directly into his eyes, and allowed them to question him, to dare him to do something. She knew she shouldn't have, but couldn't help it, she wanted to know. She waited for Charon's response.

Charon was startled by Rael's sudden stop and turn. He felt an intensity in her stare that hadn't been there all afternoon, and it slightly scared him. He saw on her face a look of curiousity mixed with determination and challenge, but what it was demanding to know, or commanding him to do, he couldn't begin to guess. He tried to return her gaze, but couldn't, and had to look down as he stepped back. "Is something wrong?" he asked nervously

Rael closed her eyes when he looked away. "No, nothings wrong," she replied quietly. She turned her head away so that she could argue with herself over what she had just done without him looking, if he decided to look up again. She lifted her hand to brush back the strands of hair that refused to be tamed. For the first time that day she felt utterly disappointed. She could feel the adrenaline rush she had felt a moment before crash at a frighteningly high speed.
She realized she hadn't half hoped earlier, but fully wished he had done something. Something besides taking a step back, at least. She turned again, so she faced him. She knew her disappointment was written all over her face, but she couldn't help it, things hadn't gone the way she had wanted for that split second. She felt the strands fall back along her face, as though, they too, were disappointed.

Charon looked up when he heard Rael speak. She didn't sound like nothing was wrong, and she certainly didn't look like it, either. "You sure?" he asked. "Cuz it sure doesn't look like it."
He stepped back towards her, put his arm around her shoulders, and brushed her hair back with his other hand. He saw that she looked horribly disappointed, and he didn't know why. "Y'know, if anything is wrong, you can always feel free to talk to me about it. I really want for you to be happy, and right now you look the least happy I've seen you since I met you.," he said, concernedly.

A weak smile touched her lips, but nothing more than that. She could again feel his proximity to her, and was content with it. When he brushed her hair back for her, she almost wished he hadn't. That only made her feel worse. Her nerves danced again, over and over. She knew she had no right to be disappointed he hadn't taken the chance to kiss her, but she was.
"Really, nothings wrong," she said truthfully. "In fact, everything is almost perfect. And I am happy, extremely happy." She said with a hint of laughter and allowed a full grin to form. She placed her arm closest to him around his back, and leaned into him slightly. She inhaled his scent, and realized it was the wrong thing to do, because her nerves danced even more.
