An owl flew through the window. It was Ismene, Lily's seldom used owl (who was getting a lot of use now). It had a letter attatched to it and it's eyes scanned the room for it's victim. Spotting him, it proceeded to pearch on Drew's head, and peck at him. It wanted the letter off. It was a letter, a bit on the short side, from Lily.
Dear Drew, You have probably learned by now that I am in Germany. It’s nice here, I suppose, nothing really like Hogwarts, but the weather is good. I had almost forgotten how beautiful things were here.
I hope you’re not mad at me for leaving. Sometimes people deserve second chances even if they don’t change. Some of the guys in Germany have changed. Some of them treat me with respect now.
I’m not trying to blame you, but I want to thank you for pushing me to go. I think I was meant to go to Germany. I have a purpose here, at least for the moment. I won’t return until it’s over. It just reminds me truly how much mercy you have shown me, being here. Part of me still clings to Hogwarts, but the other part of me could stay here. I’ve made some friends, and it will be hard to leave them when I come back . But I will be back. And I hope things will be better now. Germany has changed me, and I think it will continue too. Lily

Why owls insisted on landing on his hea, he didn't know, but it was rather annoying. He pulled the bird out of his hair and untied the letter before unceremoniously tossing the bird over his shoulder. It took the gesture as a hint and went out the window it had come in through.
Drew unrolled the letter and frowned, recognizing Lily's handwriting right away. He scanned her words and while glad she was okay, was still angry she had left so quickly. Frustrated, he tossed it into the flames of the fireplace, only letting it burn for a second before changing his mind and rescuing it.

Sitting in one of the large chairs in the corner, where she tended to be overlooked as a shadow, Arianna flipped through the pages of the magazine in front of her. She was pondering over which set of brushes to buy - camel hair, or squirrel? They cost about the same, so price wasn't an issue. The issue was whether or not Arianna wanted to stick with something she was used to, or try something new. Or perhaps she should buy both. Her thoughts, however, were interupted with the arrival of an owl.
Arianna peered over the notes in her hand and watched the short scene for a moment. She was curious, of course, about what the letter said. Even more so over why Drew would toss it in the fire. Before the boy could see that she was watching, though, the girl ducked back behind her magazine and wondered about the benefits of going cheap on her paints next time.

He had burnt his fingers pulling the parchment out of the flames, but he had saved the letter. With one hand in his mouth, he used the other to stuff the page in his pocket. He wasn't even sure ehy he had saved it. It wasn't as if she cared. Why should he? He sat back into the chair and stared at the fire, sulking.

It was all too quiet. Something that had always bugged Arianna, but hadn't lately. Today, however, was slightly different. Arianna had to know what was going on.
"You didn't hurt yourself...did you?" she asked quietly, peering again over the pages of her magazine. Arianna could hear the reply already and wouldn't be surprised by whatever Drew said next.

"Mokay..." Drew grumbled from around his burnt fingers. While he was slightly surprised Arianna was actually talking to him, he didn't say anything. He hadn't exactly gone out of his way to talk to her either. He kept his eyes on the fire, nearly hypnotized by the flames.

"Okay," Arianna knew he wasn't okay, but wasn't quite sure what to do. Things had been a bit strained between the two of them and Arianna had no clue why. Her efforts to find out hadn't produced anything, either. Perhaps she should have tried a bit harder, but the girl had gotten the impression it wouldn't matter. She didn't know if she should risk it now, when she felt as though there was only one way their relationship could go - down.

"What are you doing," he asked, taking his fingers out of his mouth just long enough to ask the question. He kept his eyes on the fire, wondering how things had managed to go so wrong.

Arianna took a long moment to answer. Surprise, perhaps, was her immediate reaction. Yes, it was a simple question, but one that meant more to her lately than she realized.
"I...I was just looking for new brushes," she replied quietly, still peering over her magazine.

"Oh..." Drew answered, sticking his fingers back in his mouth. The short response was more than he had actually expected and he fully believed that would be the end of their conversation for the evening.

Though she fell silent once again, Arianna still watched Drew over her magazine. Part of her wanted to leave at that, but another part of her, the part that had disappeared for the past month, now surfaced and she felt concerned about the boy.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Arianna asked again.

Drew nodded back but gave a small sniff as he glared into the fire. He wasn't sure why he was still worried about Lily... or why he had been worried in the first place. "She's okay. There's nothing to worry about, right?" he asked the flames.

Arianna frowned. It took her a moment to realize who he might have been talking about. She hadn't been very attentive about the goings on in Ravenclaw.
"Um...." Unable to think of what to say, Arianna offered a little shrug. Before she could do anything else, though, she had to take care of something first.
"I'll be right back," setting her magazine aside, the girl stood and swiftly disappeared into the bathroom. A moment later she was back with a towel that she had wetted and placed a cooling charm on. Arianna moved over next to Drew and handed him the towel. "For your fingers."

Drew gave her his hand without being asked. He wasn't sure what had made him toss the letter in the fire to begin with any more than he was sure why he felt the need to retrieve it.

"From Lily?" Arianna asked, motioning to the letter. Taking Drew's hand, she gently wrapped the towel around his fingers. It crossed her mind that this was as close as she had been to him in...well, a long time. "Where is she?"
