Arianna didn't answer right away. The question, though she had been thinking that very thing, still threw her off. She hadn't expected Drew to even ask it when she wasn't sure she should have even asked it herself.
"I...I've been wondering the same thing, actually," Arianna finally answered after what felt like an age. She had pulled her arm back onto her lap and was staring down at her hands. "Except...I thought I had messed up."

"Oh," Drew answered sullenly, pulling away from her slightly. Despite what she had just said, he couldn't help but think of it as a reflection on himself. He had made her feel that way because he had been a rotten friend to her.

"We can work it out, though...can't we?" Arianna questioned quietly. She would understand if he said no, but she personally thought they could. She had to know why everything had happened the way they had, though, so she could at least appologize for it. "If I did do anything to upset you, I'm really sorry."

Drew shrugged back and once again found the lint ball on the floor to be oh, so interesting. He knew things were slightly off with Ari, but hadn't really thought they were so off that they required working out. "Okay..." he said in response to her apology.

Arianna sniffed. Her head bobbed jerkily up and down, but she kept her gaze on her hands. She didn't know what she was supposed to do now. One thing was for sure, though, and that was how terrible she now felt for ever feeling like she never wanted anything to do with Drew again. If she had to appologize about anything else, that would be it. Of course, how in the world could you tell someone that you had spent the last month feeling as such?

"So... what needs to be ... worked out?"" he asked softly. He had been sitting there, trying to figure it out and still wasn't sure. Ari had always been good at telling him stuff like that. He didn't always agree, but still...

Arianna replied with a small shrug. She sniffed again and lifted her hand to her face, checking for any tears that might have rolled down her cheeks.
"I...I don't know," she finally answered in a quiet voice. "I don't even know what happened. One day I'm sure we're fine, and the next....I'm getting snapped at for things I didn't do or for other things I didn't have any control over. When I tried to talk to you, you said everything was okay, but you didn't want to talk or hang out with me or even accept anything I offered. I don't really don't know what happened."

Drew frowned at the lint ball on the floor, trying to remeber when he had done any of that. He didn't deny it had happened... he just didn't remember doing it. "When did I do that? he asked.

Arianna bit her lip and shrugged yet again. Did Drew really want to know? Usually he would get mad if she ever got upset over something he had said or done. Arianna supposed he just didn't like hearing about it.
"You sure you want to know?" she asked quietly, glancing over to the boy.

"No..." Drew answered sullenly and he gave a long and heavy sigh. No one liked to hear their faults and shortcomings. He hadn't known he was such an awful guy until coming to Hogwarts. "But you need to tell me anyway, don't you?"

Arianna wanted to say no. Couldn't they just forget it? It would be the easy way out, wouldn't it? But then she guessed it wouldn't do much good for either of them.
There was a long pause. Arianna let out a sigh, wishing she didn't have to say anything.
"First time I got snapped at was when I walked into the Great Hall and you and Lily both came barging out," she started, speaking nervously, her eyes still on her lap. "When I tried to talk to you about it later, you said everything was fine, but it wasn't. I know it wasn't, but I couldn't...I couldn't get you to talk to me. I don't remember talking to you much after that. Except at the dance, but that didn't turn out well, either."

Drew took a moment to frown back at her, trying to remember either incident. It took him a while to figure out when he had snapped at her during a fight with Lily. He was about to ask when it finally came to him. "Oh... sorry about that," he said softly and he bit his lip as he tried to remeber the dance. "But when did you talk to me at the dance? All I remember is breaking up the fight between you and Krissy."

"Yeah, and then you yelled at me. Like I was supposed to know the food was bad or something," Arianna's voice cracked slightly. Maybe she HAD been stupid for not paying attention to the food. She didn't know if she should say more on the matter, but the dance had been a breaking point for her. After that she hadn't bothered to seek him out to say good-bye before leaving on holiday. Nor had she bothered with letters.

"Okay..." Drew answered quietly, not knowing what else to say. He wasn't going to deny it because he knew it had happened. He wasn't going to apologize, because he still thought he was right. And he definitely wasn't going to try and make excuses or explain his behaviour, because that would just end up in a fight.

Arianna ran her hand across her nose. She really didn't like it when Drew said that. It gave her the same feeling she had gotten that night; made her feel as though she should know better; that she didn't think things through clearly enough. There really wasn't much she could do about that, though. She had tried to change it, but being hasty, heedless and impulsive was part of who she was. How could anyone expect her to change who she was?
Another sniff and Arianna moved slightly away from the boy and lay her head on the arm of the couch. The things that had made one person fall in love with her had caused too many fights to count with others. Arianna was at a loss of what do about either one.
