The Entrance Hall was casted in shadows, the windows darkened from the long looming night outside. The torches licked the walls in their eerie glow and portraits yawned and murmured in their frames, some even floating to visit neighboring friends. To anyone adjusted to Hogwarts, it was normal activity, a normal setting. But for students that had never set foot inside the walls and were already busting with tall-tale stories, it could be intimidating.
The Deputy stood in the middle of the hall, as regal as a five foot woman with a belly bursting with pregnancy could be. And bursting it was. She was due in a matter of weeks. But she still seemed able to pull it off nicely. She was the living, breathing image of a witch. A tall wizarding hat sat on her head, brimming a strong set face. The look was polished off with a set of rather embellished wizarding robes. Raynor was not one for embellishment, they were the only pair that had such, but it was fitting for the occasion. And besides, the hide the swelling of her stomach, at least slightly.
Hands clasped lightly behind her back, the Deputy awaited Mather and the first years to come in from their trip across the Great Lake. The woman was not one for patience, but she did her best to display the virtue now. Her fingers tapped against each other.
Any minute now.
(( First Years may begin posting. The grounds keeper, Mather Goodwin has collected you from the Hogwarts Express and has brought you across the Great Lake. ))

At first when Flora got off the train, she was going to follow her sister to the school until she told her to follow the grounds keeper. Turning around, she saw a person calling for all first years to follow him. Afterwards, Flora went with the rest of the first years across the lake where she got her first amazing view of the castle. "Zis is wonderful!" she thought. Finally arriving at the castle, they walked inside. Seeing a witch, probobly a teacher, Flora wondered what was going to come next and if the sorting ceremony was really going to be singing the school anthum while conjuring toads and catching them. She still didn't know how to do that so she hoped it wasn't true.

Artemis Tayern, son to a muggle father and squib mother walked into the castle with amazement which his face did not reveal. He stepped next to the girl whom had asked if he needed help on the platform, how rediculus! Artemis needing help? Not a chance! Oh man, am I gonna have fun here! no parents I could really enjoy myself! he thought. "Who are you?" Artemis asked his voice making it almost a demand. He hated anything that opposed him, that woman's expression defied him, it didn't show respect for him.
Artemis wore jet-black general-hogwarts robes, Artemis would have the house badge sown onto them when he was sorted. At least they are black and not some stupid color! he thought again.

Kyle crossed the lake and finally arrived at the castle, along with the other first years. The trip across was quite an adverture, even to his standard. For a moment there, he thought for sure they were all going to drown. Sure he could swim, but the lake looked way too big for his liking. Of course, he would never admit that he was scared to anyone.
Although he had older siblings, none of them really told him what the sorting was about. The twins tried feeding him some horrible stories, but Tommoy told him he didn't need to worry. However, being the nicest brother, he still didn't tell the details.
He was standing near the front, so he got a good look at the lady standing there. He gave her, espeically her belly, one long look and decided she's the one teacher he wouldn't want to mess with. As a matter of fact, he hoped he would be able to stay far far away from her. He heard the conversation around him, but decided it's probably better to keep to himself for now.

Emma tried paying attention...the only problem with the young girl was that her attention span wasn't even comparable to a vaccume.
Well, not like vaccumes had attention spans or anything, of course. But they never stayed in one place at once, they cascaded along on the floor as it gathered up dirt and...all Emma could think of at that moment was that she might need to figure out how to better come up with analogies. Wait, was her attention span comparable to a...wait, did that portrait just move?!
Her eyes widened a bit, as she indignantly looked back up in front of her. Roxy had never said anything about moving portraits! How did they move, anyway? Magic was all of confusing to the young girl. When her father had been alive, they had lived in somewhat of a magical community in Russia, but it was the first time she had come into contact with an actual person in a painting moved. She had spent the last year or so of her life in San Francisco, in a dance studio, where she couldn't talk of much things magic oriented. In place, the coversations that took place were generally made up, with Emma telling stories of how her life was back in Russia and what school was like, and pretend to actually understand mathmatics in place of wand management or something. Realizing that paintings did in fact move and vaccumes did not have an attention span, she readily got used to the fact that she would have to make up stories of a lot more happenings than she thought.
The boat ride had been terrible. The girl had never been in such a small boat in her life, really, the only boats she had been in were faeries and jet boats on the Pacific Ocean. The boats used for transportaitonal matters were rowed...and wooden. And overall just downright small.
Following up the rest of the new students, Emma made her way up to the front, almost regretting that she did so. The woman in front of her was taller than her, and pregnant, it seemed. Emma tried thinking of what she had heard from Roxy...what was her name? There were many professors names swimming around in her head, most not even accurate not to her knowledge, and since the woman had not said anything yet it was difficult to even try and guess. She would learn in time, but all she truly wanted at the moment was to get on with it, get this sorting thing out of the way and go to bed. She was both tired and slightly irritated, and felt that with the journey here she should at least be allowed to go to the dorms or something.
Knowing that wasn't an option, she turned her attention away from the woman and looked back to the painting, preparing herself for the school year ahead.

Stephanie Patterson was as excited as she had ever been. She was now off the train and had crossed the lake in little boats that seemed to power themselves. That was amazing, and she got her first glimpse of Hogwarts, which would be her home for the next 7 years. It was enormous! She stepped into line with the other first years as they filed into the Entrance Hall, where a Professor was waiting for them. She was heavilly pregnant and Stephanie wondered how long it would be before she was going to give birth.
Stephanie stood waiting until the other first years appeared from the boats. There seemed to be alot of them. She wondered what the Sorting Hat was going to say to her. Her parents had told her what was going to happen and how she was going to be sorted. It sounded fascinating!

Kyle noticed the girl beside him seemed to be fidgeting, looking from here to there. He didn't think she's just being curious, from the slight frustration and irritation on her face. That made him curious. Almost everyone was in awe, yet, her reaction was completely different.
"Something's the matter?" he asked her. The question of being too rude and that he might be disturbing the girl's thought did not cross his mind at all.
(Emma, Kyle's talking to you...hope you don't mind!)

Sarsha entered through the huge oak doors, still dusting herself off. "Filthy" she muttered under her breath. She had not liked the boat ride one bit. It had taken quite a bit of persuasion to get her into those boats, she had demanded for qiute a while that they go fetch her a limozine and drive her to the school. Said there was no way she would sit in something so disguistingly filthy. When they had finally gotten her into the boat she just hoped that the rest of the school was alot cleaner. But the site of the castle had been a surprise to her. It was magnificent. Just wait till the children back home hear her school is a castle.
She followed the man whom had taken them all the way up to the stone steps to the castle, quite disgrunteled at the simple fact that she had to walk from the lake to there. The site the inside of the castle was just as wonderful as the outside. Her eyes widened as she entered the hall, the banisters sparkeling. She felt at once at home. Mainly just because of the fancyness of the place but still, it was marvelous.
Her eyes drifted to a woman with a rather large belly at the front of the first years. Sarsha assumed she was like a butler or something there to greet them at the door. But yet, she still had a look of authority to her. Sarsha thought maybe the butlers at this school needed to have authority. Either way the woman only got Sarsha's attention for a short moment.
Her eyes mvoed about the hall taking in all the beauty and glory that was the Hogwarts entrance hall. They moved to the wall to the paintings. She moved closer to one of the paintings to look at it closely until. "AHH!" Sarhsa screamed and jumped backwards into Kyle. "Oh my gosh!" She was shaking. That painting had just moved. Coming from a muggle family she knew nothing about magic nor that paintings could move. "That... that... that painting just moved!" she exclaimed quite loudly, her high pitched english accent echoing about the entrance hall. Her eyes were transfixed upon the wall at the painting. She hadn't even thought to look at the other paintings yet.

Kyle caught the girl out of reflex before the other girl had a chance to reply. Well, he had to since she bumped right into him. "You alright?" he asked her and helped righting her. His family lived among the muggles, so there weren't any magical objects in their home. But he had seen his fair share of moving things.
"A lot of other things here move, as a matter of fact," he told her. He understood why the girl was shocked though, so his tone was not the slightest bit teasing. "Are you a muggle born?"

Sarsha felt young boy catch her. A much grascious act. She nodded at his question of if she was alright. Her eyes still staring at the paintings on the wall. Their movements unearthly. It was quite a scary concept. She finally turned to look at the young lad her eyes still showing trraces of fear. "M... muchly obliged" she said to him. The way her parents had told her to say thanks.
She listened to what the boy had said about moving things. But was confused at the mention of a strange word. "Muggle?" she questioned to boy, not sure what he was talking about. Completely forgetting to introduce herself.

Kyle probably didn't notice he had quite a confused look on his face at the girl's words. Much what? He asked himself inwardly. He didn't ask that though, thinking perhaps that's a special custom to the girl, wherever she's from.
"Yep, muggles," he nodded his head. He didn't have any muggle-born magical friends, so he's more than happy to be the first person to introduce her to his world. "Wizards or witches with non-magical parents, they are muggle-born. And muggles, are people with no magic."

Michelle had had one busy day. She was to meet her new friend Flora at the train station so she could sit with her on the way to school. Instead, she had been extremely late and nearly missed the train. So, she was then forced to sit with the only person she did know, her brother Michael.
He had been at least, semi-curteous, to her during the little trip. But once the had come to a complete halt he had darted off with his friends and she was left to fend for herself. From there she followed close behind a man who led all first years across the lake to a seperate entrance than all the rest of the students.
She remembered her brother mentioning something about that years ago during his first school year. At least she knew one thing to expect.
The man, Michelle later learned he was the grounds-keeper, led her and her fellow first years to a side door that led to a dark, gloomy hallway. This place fascinated her. After all, she had really only been to the wizarding world once in her eleven years and that was only for a couple of hours. To be here... it was truly amazing.
Michelle starred at the ceiling and other objects surrounding her. Everything here brought out her more curious side.
She glanced up at a small picture beside her on the wall. At first it appeared as a normal everyday picture. But then it moved, and spoke!
Hey! What are you starring at gel?[/color]
Michelle jumped away. "How...how'd they do that?" She asked no one in particular.
She looked around at the other students to see if they had noticed that the pictures moved too. Immediately she noticed her friend Flora standing a ways away from her. She smiled waving, then made her way over to her side.
"Hey you." Michelle blushed. "Sorry I didn't meet you at the train. I was late. Still friends?"
She then outstretched her hand for the girl to shake.

In the mist of her thoughts, she heard a voice. She wasn't particuarly keeping in mind that perhaps the boy had in fact been speaking to her, as hardly anyone had spoken to Emma yet. She was in the mindset that she needed to keep quiet, continue on with this whole feast thing and go to bed, not truly making anything of it. Actually, the thought hadn't even occurred to her that she might actually meet and socialize with some of her classmates that night, which was silly, as those were the people that really were going to be with her then and for the rest of her career as a student at the school.
"Huh?" she asked, turning her gaze to him. It took her a moment to process the question, before she spoke up to answer "Oh, um, no...I'm alright. Nothings wrong"
Another pause, before she introduced herself. "I'm Emma"

As Sabrina walked into the castle, she was amazed by everything. She loved it all. The moving pictures, the moving staircases, and just all the people that was there already. She knew that many kids went to Hogwarts, she just didn't realize that this many actually went there. She wondered what would happen to them all. I mean, why do we just have to sit here. Can't we go in now? How long does it take to get ready for a "sorting", what ever that means. she thought to herself. It looked like alot of the kids were making friends with each other and Sabrina thought she should do the same. So she walked up to the closest person by her and said, "Takin' long enough, isn't it?"

"I am Kyle," he grinned at the two girls, one still stunned at the moving portraits, one previously upset at something. He was just happy that he had finally arrived. He looked at Emma, then at the other girl. "And you?"
