Sarsha's looked at the girl. Hogwarts had houses? Why would a giant castle need a house? Or more than one. She got even more confused when the girl mentioned she knew the head, of what Sarsha had guessed, to be a house. She was getting more and more confused as the conversation went on. Houses? Heads? Hufflepuffs? What were all these things. The confusion could be seen clearly on her face. She looked around the large entrance hall hoping, wishing something would make sence soon. And.. Where were all the other students, why were they kept away from them.
"What is a hufflepuff?" she asked. Out of the million questions she could have asked that one decided it was most important and popped out of her mouth. She was lost. She knew nothing of this world or of magic and the one thing she wanted more than anything right now was to go home. But she knew she had to stay, she had to discover this world.

If Kyle was a cartoon character, his jaw would totally be on the floor and needed someone to peel it off. But he's not. He was looking at Emma with a really calculating look. "Hufflepuff is one of the houses here at Hogwarts," he first replied Sarsha, turning to the girl. "Think of it as a big team of people. There are 4 teams here, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. That's why we are here," he added before looking at Emma again. "We will be sorted into these houses."
"So you think you are going to be a Hufflepuff?" he asked. "I mean, that must take the fun out of everything, being in your mom's house." And he meant that honestly. He had waited so long to be away from his parents so he could be as free as he wanted. Poor Emma.

Sarsha nodded at what the boy said. Finally she understood what he was talking about and what was going on. It made things alot easier on her now she understood what a hufflepuff was. She never thought she would remember the other three teams, uhh houses. What were they. Rivenclaz, Sliperin and Grofundor? She returned to listening to Kyle speak. The other girl, Emma, her mother was the head of one of these houses? Wow, that'd be... unnerving.
Sarsha smiled to Kyle. "Thank you" she said to him quietly. She was glad he had bothered to take the time to explain what was going on to her. Otherwise she would have been stumped. Being sorted into the houses was the new issue. "Excuse me" she asked Kyle once more looking at him, hopnig he would know. "Do you know quite exactly how we get srota into these houses?" Sarsha asked. She hoped they didn't have to go through a big test to find out. That would be scary, and she didn't know anything. She would surely get the names of everything wrong, thats if she knew what they were in the first place..

Emma shrugged. She didn't know if she was Hufflepuff material, in all honesty. She had heard of the others, and knew immediately that she would have been miserable in Slytherin. She didn't think she was too terribly smart to be put in Ravenclaw, but she was warming up to the idea between either Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. Either house would do her good. She only hoped that the students were nice, the ones that it was taking ages to go in and greet.
"I don't know, it's not a set thing or anything...but I don't know what house I'll fit into." she said in response. "It actually won't be that bad, cause she's more my best friend than anything else, not really a mother mother. Like, she doesn't yell and stuff like other moms do. I haven't lived with her that long either.."
"I just know that I won't wanna be in Slytherin"
After Kyle explained what the houses were to Sarsha, Emma smiled a bit over to her. They would be sorted, and with the girl's responses so far she didn't know if she could handle more magic.
"Well, there's a hat..." she began. "And it's put on our head and it talks. It puts us in the houses."

Sarsha frowned at the idea the girl pointed out to her. A talking hat. The confused look showed on Sarsha's face as she tried to comprehend the proposterous idea. Maybe the girl was having her on. Maybe there wasn't really a talking hat and the girl had just realised just how gulible Sarsha was. She couldn't help it if she knew nothing, it really wasn't had fault.
"A... talking hat?" she looked to the boy for hope of reassurnce, he had prooved himself to be quite worth and she trusted what he said. Much more already than the girl that had giggeled when he saluted.

"What? A talking hat?" Kyle repeated in dismay. From all the horror, er, exciting, stories his brothers told him, he had expected a lot more than a boring hat. Well, unless the hat breathed fire or could jinx people. That's a different story.
"I have been expecting something more difficult," he went on, this time missing Sarsha's need for reassurance, but hopefully his tone had told the girl that he believed Emma. Now that he thought about it, neither one of his brothers told him to be prepared for a difficult task. It's more like they were egging him on regarding his own fantasies. "I thought at least we will be asked to run around the castle and collect points or something. Anything but silly talking hat."

Stephanie had been listening as the students introduced themselves to each other, but when they mentioned the Sorting Hat, Stephanie had to step in.
"It's true you know, about the talking hat. It can see inside your head and so it knows which house to put you in." She smiled at them all. "I'm Stephanie by the way, but you can call me Steph or Stephie if you want. And I wouldn't call the hat silly if I were you, and I would expect that we will have alot more difficult stuff ahead when we start classes."

Well, the first years were defiantly a talkative bunch. A good sign that they were getting a long with one another before the sorting, but that meant they would be chatty during class. Something that she did not personally allow, but knew would cause other professors a good deal of trouble.
When confronted by one rambunctious youth, she simply glanced at him and away again, hands still clasped behind her back as she awaited the last of the first years to arrive. By the time they had, most of the group was exclaiming over the portraits, which were absolutely gloating in the attention, putting on their best performances. The conversations had strayed to houses and how sorting was done. It was surprising how much everyone seemed to know about the sorting ceremony. Unless a past relative had told them, none of them should know.
Another first year, this one a girl came forward, inquiring as to who she was. Tamis glanced at her (( most of the first years were eye-level or just barely below, irritating really )) and gave her a nod.
Best time for introductions then.
"Quite down, now. What I have to tell you will only better you, so if you chose not to listen, don't. But do not hinder others," she spoke up for the first time, pausing only for the murmur of talking to die down. "I am Professor Raynor, Deputy Headmistress here at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
This time there was a pause, but more or less for dramatic effect. "In a few moments, I will take you into the Great Hall, where you will be sorting before the school into one of four houses; Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. Your house will become your family while you are at Hogwarts. You will eat with them. Go to classes with them. Sleep in the same dorms with them. And share the same Common Rooms. Once you have been sorted, you are to join your House's table."
The very pregnant Professor reached up and adjusted her hat, giving them a critical glance.
"I will check if they are ready for you now. Please line up in alphabetical order outside this door," she pointed to a door just a few steps up the hall, "before I return for you. Finding out who stands where should not be difficult with how sociable you all are."
Was that last part a joke? It was hard to tell, nor would the chance be available to ask as the Deputy was already striding down to that very door and disappearing inside. Laughter and fun-loving chatter could be heard on the other side of it, but it cut off once it was snapped shut behind her.

Before he had time to reply, the deputy gave them a speech. Once again, it confirmed his feeling that this was one professor he gotta watch out for. Better put on his better performance whenever she's around.
He's not very tall, but he did catch a glimpse of what's on the other side of the door. That's a lot of people. "Well, this is it," he exclaimed dramatically. He remembered the inter-house rivalry his brothers told him about, and quickly added this little piece. "No matter what house we will be sorted into, we agree that we are friends?"
The last bit reminded him he had yet given the third girl his name. "And Steph, I am Kyle."

Flora stood there waiting for Michelle to finish talking with the pregnant woman. However, she began to speak to the whole lot of first years which stood before them. Beckoning Michelle to come back, the woman who now confirmed that she was in fact Tamis Raynor and talked about the four houses. "Vell, at least if ve are not in ze same house, vell be in ze same classes." Flora thought. Now she was getting excited, they were going to be sorted soon. But, Prof. Raynor said that she would go check to see if they were ready for them and to get in ABC order. "Ready? I hope it's not toads!" she thought. Then looking back at Michelle she asked, "So, are you behind me? Because your last name begins vith P and I'm vith L."

Emma looked over to the girl that had joined in the conversation, and smiled. "Hi Steph...I'm Emma" she introduced herself politely.
The woman at the front began to address them, and her attention immediately focused on her. She drowned out the noise around her and basically hung on everything she had to say. So she was one of the higher people...she was a head of house too, right? Or was that the other person? Meh, she would have to ask someone later. The one thing that caught her attention the most though was at the end...something she hadn't been expecting at all.
Alphabetical order...alphabetial order?!
Emiliane...Ashford. This was the one time which she truly did not like taking that last name. Though her other last name, Bogdanskii, wouldn't have landed her much better. With a bit of a silent gulp, Emma indignantly made her way up to the front of the line where the Deputy Headmistress had assigned for them to go, sighing once again. She had warmed up to the whole idea of the hat on her head in front of the whole school...she just wasn't informed who had to go first.
Emma looked back to Nathan, giving a small and quick nod and smile before yawning. Despite the fact that she had seemed to made aquaintence with some of them, she did really want to just go to bed. She didn't try and look into the hall, as all she wanted to do was take her mind off of it and get it over with; that, or stay in the hallway for the rest of eternity.

Sarsha listened to the woman, understanding why she seemed to have a form of authority. She wasn't a butler at all, she was a deupty. That did make alot more sence. She turned back to the others as the woman left to see if the room was ready for them. Sarsha turned back to the boy who asked about friends. Sarsha smiled to Kyle. "Definately." she said to him cetainly. "No matter where we end up. We stay friends" she liked the boy, and the other kids weren't that bad either.
She was glad for him to already call her a friend, the kids back home still probably wouldn't call her a friend, they were all more associates. These children she was with now were very different, they hadn't yet boasted about how big their mantions were or how much money their parents had. Which were normally the first things kids back home spoke about.
Sarsha realised that going by alphabetical order meant she was likelt to be the last person sorted into the house. The prospect of a talking hat was still strange. But least she could see it on everyone else before herself.
Sarsha then looked to the other girl who the others were introducing themselves too. She smiled to Steph. "I'm Sarsha Nicolette Courtney Elizabeth Worthington-Smythe." she said, curtseying once more to the girl. As she didn't know the proper wizard greeting as of yet she decided to stick with what she had always been taught.
She then looked around at all the other kids. "That means I'll be sorted last" she said to them.

Stephanie listened as the Professor introduced herself and then asked them to get into Alphabetical Order. She smiled at Kyle, Flora, Emma and Sarsha. "It's nice to meet you all. I hope at least one of you ends up in the same house. I'd hate to be stuck with complete strangers."
When Kyle mentioned that no matter what they would be friends, Stephanie smiled wider. "Of course! And we'll have to meet up out in the grounds, or be partners in class so we can tell each other all the goss!"
When Flora said that her last name started with L, Stephanie smiled, "Yep, I'll be behind you, since it goes by last names, not first." Stephanie watched as Emma stepped into the front of the queue. "Don't worry Emma," She called out, "It will all be over soon!"

"Not really, maybe there will be someone with the last name Zizzleson or something," Kyle told Sarsha. He looked sympathically towards Emma, it's always a bummer to have to go first. Well, at least, she knew what's going to happen. With a final wave, he walked towards the girl with last name starting with L (he did hear their conversations too). Then he remembered he had forgotten to ask his new friends which houses they thought they would be in, but figured Sarsha probably wouldn't have a clue anyways. He also would like to stay to prep her better, but his just-made decision of not getting on Raynor's bad side stop him.

Artemis waited for the woman to answer his question but she seemed not to so after about five minutes he turned around and started into the slight gossip. If that stupid woman wants to play a game I think I will! artemis smirked as he stepped away from the line purposefully remaining there as the others scattered to obey. ( Just a generalization not ment to be a powerplay) She is so full of herself she probably just thinks I am a weak little boy, but she'll find otherwise.
