As always, the First Years of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were greeted with a highly delusional projection of the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. They would soon find that this classroom was not a chronic resident of the desks and tables that neatly rowed and columned the classroom; broken only by an isle directly down the middle of the room leading to a desk on a raised platform in the front.
The room itself was fairly welcoming; large windows stretched to the ceiling on the left wall, their curtains thrown back to let in the early morning light and an excellent view of the Quidditch Pitch. Portraits hung here or there or great aurors and wizards known for having placed themselves against the Dark Arts and other interesting items covered periodically placed shelves, as well as the ceiling.
The Professor herself was leaning on that desk, so short that a first glance would mistake her for a student, but of which a second would quickly remedy; if only for her grave expression. Why grave you ask? Well, this was going to be a very long hour and a half. The first would be dry, shoed, and not brawling with each other or Raynor would shove the lot of them right back out her doorway. The Sorting Feast was not an experience she was in any hurry to repeat; therefore, it was excellent that the sun was glaring down on landscape outside those tall windows. That would at least mean they would be dry -- or so one would assume.
Hopefully, there could be some reconciliation. Despite the fact that all of them would be seeing a lot of her over the next few weeks in detention. Not that they knew that yet. She wanted them to think they had escaped before she tightened the noose. But she had never had a Year dread her class, and she was not set on letting that happen. But, they would see.
Gaze locked on the door in the back of the room, she awaited her first year students.

Ryan had only gone to bed mere hours before the class, probably four at the most. They had been up until the wee hours of the night having a pillow fight in the common room. Still, he was wide awake and ready for his first day of class. In a pretty good mood he was racing Braxton to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. So far in the lead he ran down the corridor and skidded to the door way of the classroom. He had located and seen where most of the classrooms were at the oreintation so he knew exactly where to go. Coming to a hault in the door frame he just stared dumbfounded at the person by the desk. It couldn't be her, could it? He didn't think that she taught an actual class. Did he miss that part of her speech or hadn't she mentioned it? Either way it stunned him for a sec before he came round and walked into the classroom, taking a seat in the back.

Zack once again found himself one of the first people in the class. This time with his sister in tow. He took his favorite seat, third row back on the isle, right side. His sister however drifted towards the back of the room and plopped lazily in a chair before beginning to stare longingly out the window, wishing that she was playing quidditch instead of sitting in a classroom.
Zack however pulled out his books, quill, pen, ink, and unusual wand and set them neatly on his desk. He cast his twin a stern look, as if telling her to do the same before turning back to the teacher and smilingly politely at her as he nodded hello.
(Echo has given me permission to control her character as she is gone until probably the end of the month.)

Braxton had fallen behind in the race, mostly because he didn't want to run into others in the corridor and at one point the gap closed before he could get through it. Arriving a couple of seconds after Ryan, and looking a little disheveled, he hadn't seen him stop stupidly in the doorway. Therefore, he was still blistfully unware that the old lady from the first night was actually teaching this class. Walking in looking slightly put out that he hadn't been able to keep up or win he said with a smile, not bothering to keep his voice all that low, "I can't believe you fit through that gap. I couldn't even get though it." As he said this he threw his things off to the side of his desk and sat down next to Ryan.

Trixi came bounding into the classroom. She had found it, easy peasy. This one wasn't too hard. Afterall it was only on the second floor. Trixi landed in the classroom in a small bound and looked around. She spotted Ryan and Brax first and decided they were who she was going to. "Ryan!" Trixi basically shouted as she took another couple bounding steps into the room. It was at this moment she noticed the person at the desk. The old lady! Oh no! Trixi let out a quick squeal and lept into the seat next to Ryan, her hands on her ears and her eyes transfixed on the front of the room. She was not getting to her ears again. No-way.

Braxton smiled as Trixi came bounding into the room. She had a thing for Ryan that he wasn't even going to comment on. "What no hi for me?" he said in mock sadness after she shouted Ryan's name. He wasn't hurt she didn't say high, he was just merely pointing out the fact that she was one minded. And her mind was on Ryan.
Then noticing her sudden change in demeanor he wondered what the heck had come over her. "Umm...Trixi are you alright?" he asked with a concerned look in her direction.

"I'm talented." Ryan said with a grin as Brax finally joined him. He was starting to feel more and more comfortable in the classroom, though he wasn't entirely sure that Braxton had seen Raynor. Still Braxton's obliviousness or just lack of caring seemed to calm him a bit, well until he heard his name yelled from behind him. Jumping slightly he turned in his seat to see who had screamed his name. It was Trixi. "Hey Trixi." he said with a grin being polite.
When Trixi squelled and lept up next to him he jumped yet again and looked around for what could have possibly spoked her. Then it hit him. It all made sense. How she was holding her ears and looking at Raynor. She was afraid that there would be a repeat of the feast where Raynor dragged her by her ear. "I think I know." He told Braxton reaching into his backpack for his Herbology earmuffs. "Here try these." he told Trixi trying desperately not to laugh and managing for the time being.

"Hi Brax" Trixi whispered to the boy, not really caringf that she didn't say hello, but she did had to get on his goodside if she was to ever lead him into trouble. Trixi chanced an oppertunity to take a hand off of one of her ears for the moment pointing up to the front of the room. Being sure Brax had seen her point she quickly but both hands on her ears once more. It was then that Ryan spoke and had realised what was wrong.
Ryan offered Trixi some ear muff's from heroblogy. At that moment, Trixi could have kissed Ryan. Well, maybe not that far but she was still pretty happy with him. Trixi chanced taking her hands off her ears to reach for the earmuffs. Once she had gotten them in her hand Trixi quickly shoved them onto her head. As soon as she had gotten them on her ears she leaned foreward and gave him a quick hug. "Thank you!" Trixi said suddenly to Ryan. Not actually sure how loud she was talking, because now, she couldn't hear a thing. Trixi was excited about this new piece of attire she had. They kept her ears safe from harm. So excited infact that she didn't realise she had actually just hugged him. He had gotten her out of a sticky situation and she was pleased beyond belief. However, now she couldn't hear. Trixi wasn't yet sure what to do about that though.

Braxton still hadn't gotten it when Ryan told him he thought he knew. Why couldn't one of them just come out and say what the heck they meant? However, when Trixi pointed up to the front of the room he suddenly realized who was standing there. "Oh," he said rather loudly. "I get it now," he added with a laugh as he turned in Trixi's direction. It was just to funny not to laugh. Especially once he turned to find her with Ryan's earmuffs on. He was wondering why Trixi was suddenly hugging Ryan, well at least it was a change from tackling him in the mud. Although it seemed like she couldn't keep her hands off of him. "Oh how cute," Braxton said, the tease evident in his voice, and laughing. "You two make such a great couple." Then realizing that Trixi couldn't hear him he turned to her and mouthed rather slowly. "You love Ryan. you love Ryan," and so on, before breaking out in a burst of laughter.

Ryan just kind of grimaced a bit when Trixi yelled ‘thank you’ in his ear. Smiling he figured that she couldn’t hear herself speak, because she was talking rather loud for being right next to him. He just grinned in response and turned his attention to Braxton, who just seemed to realize that Raynor would be teaching this class. It was interesting though that he was laughing about it, but now that he thought about it was a pretty comical situation and they really hadn’t been in all that much trouble at the feast. Laughing he turned back to look at Trixi, who had now placed the earmuffs over her ears. Before he could get a full view of the hilarious sight she was hugging him. Okay, this was weird. He hadn’t expected that. What was it with girls and personal affection. He had now been kissed and hugged by girls that he had known for less than a month.
Grinning, slightly embarassed now though, he turned to Braxton and told him to be quiet. He gave him a good push to. Nothing in meanness but just sort of in fun.

With a movement quick as a flash Trixi's arm went behind Ryan and reached over to brax, wacking him on the back of the head. She couldn't hear what he was saying, nor was she any good at lip reading. However, he had laughed. She didn't like people laughing at her as was prooved on the first night when she tackeled Adrian. Brax should know it by now.
Trixi watched Ryan shove Brax, and although she didn't know what Brax had been saying Trixi figured Ryan must be sticking up for her or something. Maybe she needed to pry the ear muff's open slightly so she could hear but still have her ears protected.. Trixi grabbed her backpack off the ground from where she had slung it. She quickly rummaged through it pulling out her pencil case and emptiing the whle thing onto the desk in front of her, pens, pencils, and quill's spilling all over the table and the floor. Along with texta's and such. Trixi found what she was looking for. 2 erasers. Trixi got both of them and weged them at the top of the ear-muff's, just above her ear. What this did was made it so her ears were protected but now there was a small gap between her ears and the ear muffs. Now she could hear.

Sally was happy. It was a sunny day and she was in a great mood. That was until she walked into the Defense Against The Dark Arts classroom and saw who they had for a teacher. It was the old lady from the Entrance Hall 'incident'. She cowered for a moment but realising she had done nothing wrong, straightened up. Sally was determined to get along with all her teachers, hopefully meaning no extra homework or detentions. She chose a desk two rows from the back and sat down, digging her equipment out of her bag. Sally glanced around the room and then back at the door. She hoped Jet would sit next to her because she hadn't really spoken to him much.
She saved a spot for him and of course Maddy if either of them wanted to sit next to her.

And there he was, walking briskly down a Corridor to his Dark Arts class. Jets blue eyes were focussed on the floor, as his brown hair was falling over his eyes, if he were to look up. As the Gryffindor reached the classroom however, he smiled softly, looking up and opening the door. A few familiar faces met his eyes, but none as much as the Deputy... She didn't really teach the class, did she? Well, he didn't really care, as far as he knew there wasn't any punishments in store for the 'run away group'. Walking up to the back sort of rows, despite the fact that things weren't as usual as he expected, to where Sally was sitting.
"Hey Sally," Jethro said, his blue eyes meeting her face, and glumly taking a seat next to the girl, a spare seat next to him, should Summer turn up before someone took it. The boy took out his gear, before tossing it onto the table and sighing. His dya had been good... but slightly on the tough and annoying side, everything was different, and hard to get a grasp on. Mostly because magic was all enw to him, and the boy was just feeling it to be a litter harder than he thought.

Alright, since this class wasn't so far from the dungeons Claire managed to find her way here quickly. Defense against the dark arts sounded interesting, but you never know. However once she spotted the woman from their first night at Hogwarts, she began to dread. Oh Merlin... she thought taking a seat. This wouldn't be a good class to mess with the teacher that was for sure. Even though Claire did nothing wrong, something told her to watch it for this lady. Oh well, might as well see how this class turned out.

Braxton just continued to laugh when Ryan pushed him. He had slipped off his chair a bit, but no real damage had been done. Besides it was still funny to him. Trixi had a crush on Ryan, to funny. Then feeling Trixi hit him he just smirked in her direction. He wasn't one to get mad at things like that, quite the contrary it just amused him more. Still laughing he turned back to the two a smirk evident on his face. Smiling he made a kissy face to both of them just to mess with them a little more.
