"Cookies?" Drew asked hopefully, perking up a little bit. "I thought we were just doing the crepes... even though I know I didn't help much with them. You mean you've got more stuff?"

"Didn't I say I needed help with dessert?" Arianna asked, trying to think back on what she'd said earlier. It was a bit of a blur, though. Which she thought rather odd. Drew should be the one having difficulty remembering the last hour, not her.

"I thought the crepes were kind of like breakfast and dessert all rolled up into one," he told her with a sheepish smile. "I'll help if you want. What kind of cookies are we making?"

"What kind do you want?" Arianna questioned back. Pushing herself off the couch, she held her hand out to Drew. "Chocolate chip? Chocolate chocolate chip? Oatmeal chocolate chip?"

"Butterscotch oatmeal?" he suggested, not really knowing where the idea had come from. If anyone had asked, he would have said chocolate chip were his favorite, but somehow the butterscotch sounded more comforting or something.

"That'll work," Arianna replied with a nod. Grasping the boy's hand, she pulled him over to the kitchenette and started rumaging through the cupboards for the ingredients.
"Hey, Drew? Does thi...?" It was as she was tugging a bowl out that the girl caught herself asking a question she hadn't meant to say aloud. Shaking her head, Arianna mentally smacked herself. "I mean....Ah, nevermind."

"Does this what?" Drew asked as he stood aside and let her take the lead. It was always annoying when people started saying something and then didn't finish. It bugged him to know what they had been going to say.

Arianna bit her lip. Setting the bowl down, she paused a moment before finding the measuring cups and spoons.
"I don't think I should..." she replied haltingly. It was bad enough that she had wondered about it. "Do you see the vanilla anywhere?" the girl asked instead, trying to shift the conversation to something else.

"I don't want to play this game, Ari," he answered, frowning at her. "What were you goig to say?" He had a good feeling he wasn't going to like it, but felt he needed to hear it anyway.

Arianna busied herself with setting everything out and measuring all the ingredients. Anything to keep herself distracted and not look at Drew.
"Please don't make me say it," she pleaded, setting her hands on the table as she leaned against it. "I feel bad that I even thought it. I didn't mean to say it out loud."

Drew wasn't sure if hearing it would be better or worse than not knowing, but in the end decided he didn't want to know what she had been about to say. It was obviously something that would upset him. That's why she stopped.
Problem was, just the thought about what she might have said was upsetting too. He fell silent and leaned on the counter, watching her put everything together.

"I'm sorry," Arianna muttered, still unable to look at Drew. She picked up the butter and plopped it into the bowl then reached for the sugar, accidentally knocking over the milk in the process.
"I always have to make things worse, don't I?" she questioned quietly as she stared at the growing puddle.

"No," Drew answered quietly. He found a nearby rag and started cleaning up the mess. It was true he probably could have used his wand to do it, but he didn't really think about it.

"I'm really sorry," Arianna appologized again. She sniffed and ran a sleeve across her nose. "It...it was a selfish thought and I...I can't believe I even....I just want you to be okay."

"Then just drop it," Drew answered back softly. He didn't want to know what she was going to say if it was just going to upset him more.
And he was pretty sure whatever it was would do just that.
