He was just enjoying having her in his lap, putting his arms around her, smelling the vanilla of her soap, that he didn't even think about where they were or who might be around. He found some simple pleasure in knowing that they had had a serious discussion and neither had gotten frustrated. It felt good.
Her question caught him off guard and he almost laughed, but bit it back, wondering if it was along the same line as the previous topic. Whether it was or wasn't, it was still out of the blue.
"Well, it depends," he told her seriously, though he couldn't keep the humor out of his eyes. "Is this really my bum we're talking about, or is it yours?" If someone was talking about his butt, he'd take it as a compliment. If someone was talking about Felicity's butt, well then he'd probably have to teach some guy some manners.

Why did it depend? And why did it matter whose bum they were talking about? What if it wasn't either of their bums? It felt a little silly having to even explain her question in the slightest, but she didn't like that the boy had said it and she had no idea what he meant by it.
"Well..." she started off. "It's about something someone said to me." That new Slytherin had been the one to say it. She fell down the stairs, tumbled on down by him, she complimented his shoes, and he her bum. "He said I had a nice bum, well, actually a nice word I don't like, and I wasn't sure what he meant by it was all."
But why did it depend on whose bum they were speaking of?

He didn't find it so funny as she continued. Still, he wasn't sure what the full context was, so he couldn't get mad... yet.
"Well... you do have a nice bum," he said, not sure if this was the right time for a tease, but at the same time being absolutely honest. He didn't appreciate that some guy, whoever he was, had been commenting on her backside, much less that the phantom male had chosen a harsher word in describing it. It changed the meaning from an inappropriate flirt, to a crass comment. "Why do you think he meant something else by it?"

Grinning when he said she had a nice bum, Felicity tried not to take it as too big of a compliment, after all they were talking about a comment made to her about it, so if course he was going to say it was nice. But why did she think he meant other things rather than just a compliment?
"Well the way he said it," Felicity answered. Then again just about everything the boy said sounded snobbish and sarcastic. "And the fact I had just fallen down the stairs in front of him..." It was true, she'd got going a little too fast and tripped down the stairs nearly from the top of one flight right to the Ground Floor. "I told him he had a nice pair of shoes because they were shiny and really nice shoes, and he said I had a nice...bum."

"You fell down and he decided that was the time to comment on your bum?" Drew asked, starting to get angry at whoever this guy was. What kind of jerk made an asinine comment like that after someone trips?
"So who was this guy?" Drew asked, his eyebrows creasing together as he considered options as to what he should do to this dipwad.

Shrugging Felicity couldn't say anymore on the boy's actions or why he chose that moment to say something to her. Then again, he'd just arrived at the school, had his trunk in his hand and she'd tumbled down the stairs. Trying to make a joke and attempt a laugh that wasn't at her. Of course, she had been wearing the standard school uniform of white button down, tie, sweater, and skirt.
"You met him," she answered. "He's that boy that was at Celina's birthday party, remember? Damian, I think? In Slytherin..." But that wasn't really the point in her opinion. "So did he just mean something nice, or something else?" That was what she wanted to know. After so many months, it still bothered her.

Damian? The stuck up SOB that acted like everything was beneath him? Drew remembered him well enough. The guy was in his class. She had fallen and instead of helping her up or asking if she was okay, he had decided to be an a-hole. Nice.
"What do you think he meant?" Drew asked, wondering why she was asking him about it in the first place. It obviously bugged her, and she already said there was something in his tone, so she really didn't need him to tell her that the Slytherin was being a jerk.

"I...I don't...I don't really know," she admitted quietly with a shrug. That was why she was asking, she couldn't tell if the boy was complimenting her or if he was being crude. Letting her arms fall down from around Drew, Felicity arranged herself to sit in his lap, leaning up against him, and pulled his arms around her so she could play with his hands.
"I mean, I don't think he meant it as a compliment like I did about his shoes, but I don't really want to think he meant something mean either." Though, he didn't seem to be the nicest of boys, but Felicity really hoped he wasn't all that bad. Especially when he seemed to be chummy with Celina's brother.

"You were the one he said it to. If you got the impression he was being rude, then he was," Drew answered, kissing the top of her head. It angered him that someone had been so inappropriate with Felicity, but he thought it was pretty sweet that she still wanted to think the best of the jerk.
"Not everyone has a good a heart as you do," he said softly. "There are a lot of peole out there who think like Shaw does... that some people are better than others because of their blood, or their skin... or their wealth." Drew couldn't make a definite determination about what drove this Damian guy, but the Ravenclaw did get the feeling the Slytherin fell into that 'I'm better than you' category.

But what if she just misunderstood? Even if she thought he was being, it didn't mean he was meaning to be rude, did it? Though, he hadn't been very friendly at Celina's birthday party either, so maybe it was just how he was. Still, Felicity didn't want to think poorly of the boy.
Smiling and feeling the butterflies in her stomach rise when he said she had a good heart, Felicity moved slightly, curling up a little with the good feeling that washed over her. It was nice knowing he thought such nice thoughts of her.
And she knew how some people thought, her parents told her constantly about how some people thought. Her dad had been worried Drew would act better than them because he had money and was American and not British, but he didn't. At least in Felicity's opinion he didn't. While she wasn't fond of him offering to buy her so many things, and being able to get her such beautiful gifts, like the necklace she wore every day, he didn't act like he was better.
Turning her head so her chin touched her shoulder, she smiled at him. "You think I have a good heart?"

"One of the best," Drew answered, kissing the top of her head as she snuggled in closer. Sometimes he wondered, worried, that he came off like one of the "better than you" types. He didn't think he did, but sometimes... sometimes he got the feeling that people thought he did. He couldn't help what he was born into, but he wasn't ashamed of it either. He ws willing to use what he had, but he didn't think he went around flaunting it either.
"I think life would be a whole lot easier if more people had as good a heart," he said, leaning his head on hers. It would sure solve a lot of problems.

Yes, it was an amazing feeling that someone thought she had a good heart, one of the best was even better, and coming from Drew it was best in her opinion. Grinning, she leaned her head back against him and pulled his arms tighter around her. She didn't care about the looks she was getting from others at the table, it didn't matter.
"Life isn't supposed to be easy though. Dad says it's supposed to be hard because it builds a person." A hard life made a person understand more of what there was in the world, it made a person. "Besides, if it were easy, things wouldn't be the same, would they?"
She didn't like fighting with him, but at the same time, she kind of did when it wasn't a big fight. The rush was different, and she really liked that they made up afterwards.

"Yeah... my parents say that too," Drew answered with a crooked smile. It was the reason they gave when he and his sister complained about not having a house elf, or why they didn't summer in Europe, or why they had to wait to get the latest broom. Now that Drew was older (and he was pretty sure Allegra had come to the same conclusion), he thought he understood why they had done that. It was what had prompted Drew to bypass a cushy job and get something at minimum wage.
"It wouldn't be the same, but it would be easier..." he teased back, knowing she wasn't trying to fight, just trying to debate.

Felicity was sure once her dad got over his biggest issues with Drew he would come to see that he was a good guy that knew all the things Felicity had been told. Though, she doubted he'd been told as much as she'd been about not walking alone, and being alone, and making sure to be able to fight and scream. It was kind of annoying sometimes, but she guessed she didn't mind too much when she knew they meant well by it.
"But it wouldn't be the same," she answered him back, drawing her fingers along the back of his hands. She knew he was playing with her, but she was sure she was right. Things wouldn't be the same if life was easier. How hard had she worked with Drew to get her spells to be better? How hard did she have to work at making Celina her friend? Hard work meant a lot.

"That's what I said," Drew answered, making a face at her. "Of course it wouldn't be the same. It would be easier." He didn't believe for a second that it would be any better... in fact, he figured it would be a lot more boring. And he probably wouldn't have liked the person he would have been. Many of those kids he hung out with back home, the ones who had every little thing handed to them, they just didn't get it. They were all nice enough people, but most of them would live off of their trust funds and never actually do much of anything.
"It would be easier, but it would be different," he reitterated with a cheesy grin. "But I don't think it would be better. You can't really appreciate good without the bad to comapare it to, can you?"
